  1. welcome! Are you located at one of the developments right off 18? just a guess..A buddy of mine lives out there. Anyhow. Next time i plan a ride, i'll give you a shout. FYI, if the woman wants a good starter bike, I've got the perfect bike. no plans to sell yet, but i'm planning to get a new bike for next spring. so if my old lady doesnt want it, i'll let it go. (she keeps saying she wants to learn, but, the waiting list for MSF is CRAZY!!) edit: guess i should say what the bike is. its a 96 Ninja 500..its purple.. and yeah, its maintained very well.
  2. we have one at my shop as a parts/runner truck. frame is rusty as CRAP. but, it used to be used as a test vehicle for goodyear as well. they would put tires on it, rape the tires, and then put a different set on. They welded on 4 spots on the frame, to mount cameras and whatever else. We were going to take it back, but we are thinking that toyota would refuse it, because its "modified".
  3. --WHOA! rear drum? bummer. imo anyhow. --35W seems awfully low (assuming a typical bulb), how is night riding? --The front looks like a familiar size, but the rear..that looks difficult to find..maybe its just me though. -- not trying to offend, just saying. I had $1500 to spend when i bought my first (and unfortunately current) bike 3 years ago. I looked long an hard at the zongshen. Not terrible to look at, but i couldnt get over the ~70mph top speed. I knew i wanted a good learning bike, but i needed it to be on the highway daily. I ended up with my 500. Im sure it handles well though. I have heard stories of some things rusting fairly quickly (bolts, nuts, misc hardware). is there any truth to this? What is your opinion of the bike, and have you ridden other bikes yet?
  4. what kind of oil does it call for? could be something as simple as the wrong oil.. Im unfamiliar with your bike, but my bike has a wet-type clutch. basically it shares the engine oil, and the disc is submerged. if i were to use regular car oil w/ fricition modifiers, the clutch would slip like crazy.
  5. ..if there's grass on the field gentlemen..play ball. and if not, play in the mud.. <--- I just wanted an excuse to use that. I like the date-stamp idea. funny stuff.
  6. my carb'd bike (an ex500) runs ok. day to day performance is mostly the same, but there are times in which i can feel a difference. throttle response is ok, but not like an FI bike, thats for sure. My opinion isn't the greatest, as ive only ridden my 500cc bike w/ carbs, and 600cc FI bikes. so im comparing apples to oranges. I know however, that i HATE when my buddies fire up there bikes, and the first twist is like every other one. my first twist 'o the throttle when not warmed up..is flat. so i have limited my next bike to FI. my 2 cents.

    New car

does it have the 3.6 Dohc V6? Those motors are pretty powerful, but the oil changes suck big! specifically, the oil filters are in a retarded spot, and make a nice mess every time. anyhow. nice ride. i do like those.
  8. ok..its fixed!! there were a few problems here, 2 actually. 1.) The new set of calipers i put on were in fact bad, specifically it was the RF, not building/holding pressure. I dont understand how, but it was pulling in Air, not leaking fluid?! I replaced both calipers under warranty, and the pedal got better, but not where i wanted it, and not where it should be. so, 2.) I replaced the master cylinder(again), and bench bled, completely bled the system. after that, i had a nice pedal. But, i then noticed that the rear brakes were letting out quite a bit of heat, especially for drums. i spun the wheel in the air, and noticed that at a particular point the wheel was a bit harder to spin..which told me it was an out of round drum. So this past monday, i turned both drums, and re-adjusted the rear brakes. VERY, VERY solid pedal now, and this car stops amazingly well. The heat was coming from the shoes only making partial contact, and getting too hot in certain spots (evident by looking at the shoes). so yeah, PROBLEM SOLVED. thank you everyone for your input.
  9. View Larger Map you'll likely need a google earth plug-in of sorts. not a big fan of banjo music, lol. I actually grew up in the city all of my life, and moving to the ravenna area was like culture shock to me. going to WV is just like being in another world... btw, just from me, the stereotypes are so true. people do have that accent, they do have terrible teeth, and so on ( i mean no disrespect by this). but they're all very friendly, and cool as hell. just takes some time gettin' used to everything. + it sucks being 15 minutes from gas, food, cell phone reception, etc.
  10. I took a trip down to West virginia. specifically i was staying in parsons. I've been there before, and will go there again (family). first the pics.. Just a few steps right? I'd say its worth the walk. The pictures just dont do a justice, those things are MASSIVE!! the "blades" are around 60' long iirc. if you look at the closest one, thats an 8 foot doorway on the lower right of the base. yeah. big. Now, the part that you guys/gals would LOVE...the corners. OMFG. this is my second year there, and the second time i've kicked myself for not riding. specifically, you want US route 50, and Route 119. IF you look it up on google earth (or terraserver, etc) you will see how insane the road is. Im gonna try an get a photo of the section i drove. In my car, it was a blast. I saw SO very many bikes.
  11. to this point, it looks like the NEW master cylinder is bad. for somereason i keep getting air in the lines. Im gonna replace it (warranty), and take it from there. as far as the adjusters, abs. -No abs. Solves that. -adjusters are nice and lubed. If i have the rear off the ground i can spin either rear wheel, and they turn ~ 3 times and stop smoothly. no issues there. FYI, my car has one of those horseshoe springs GM loves. hell. i love it. i have the specialty tool, and changing shoes LITERALLY takes 5 minutes perside. thats removed, lubed all parts, reassembled. also, the ebrake actuator thing doesnt even need to come off the ebrake cable. talk about a nice setup.. but yea, drum brakes = fail. Theres a disc conversion, but i realized its ONLY a malibu, so theres no need to put any more $$$ into it than is required. back on topic. thanks for all the suggestions guys/gals. greatly appreciate the input, and will let you know wht happens after the MC is changed.

    your vs you're

effect - think of the term side-effects. and effect is something that happens because of something else. Used to describe a result of an action. affect - how will this affect the way this works? basically its like thinking before doing. what will the affect be on this, if i do this! ugh. thats just me.
  13. oh yeah. definately has crystal clear fluid throughout.
  14. really? I dont care what they say about going into shock and whatnot, that had to hurt. back to the topic, makes you wonder how bad his life was? really, its THAT bad?
  15. i've actually considered buying one, just didnt know where to get one. i'll take a look around the area, and if not, maybe order. thanks ,.
  16. damn. he's onto me... I'll try the all four bleeders open. if the booster was bad, it would cause a rock hard pedal. Lastly, Im gonna take the master back tomorrow, and just tell them it wont work, and see what happens when i put on another one.
  17. It was either here, or off topic, but i figure the info is good for either bikes or cars, to a point. Here's the deal. my car (2004 Chevy classic, its an 03 body malibu, with the 04 engine/trans.) Has had some mushy brakes for a while. I am comparing the brake pedal to the one in my GF's car (same car, ghey huh?). her's has the normal play at the top, and then nice n firm (the pedal guys..). mine...is weak. it feels like there is air in the lines. Here's what i've done, in order. -Replaced the Shoes/Drums, due to the shoes being worn out. same for the drums. While i was at it, i figured i could attack the noisy front calipers. -replaced two front calipers, cleaned & greased slides/pins. at that point, i still had a mushy pedal. I went thru and bled PER GM specs (RR, LF, LR, RF). No joy. -I then went thru and said, its gotta be the master cylinder. Replaced, bench bled, and rebled the entire system, showing no air anywhere. STILL mushy. -One of the tech's i work with noticed when we bled the LF, less fluid came out as compared to the other corners. So i replaced the flex hose. I have more fluid now, BUT still a mushy pedal. ARGH. I came home today, re-bench bled the master, re-bled the bejebus out of the entire system. same mushy ass pedal. At this point, im pissed at the car. I've been working on/around cars for 6 years now. Definately not a newbie. not ASE, YET, but just need to take the tests. So im not car retarded, and to this point have done everything the proper way. Can anyone shed some light as to what the hell is going on here?! I suspect something is up in the combination valve, but thats only cause its one of the few things remaining, lol.
  18. -- IF I ride with my faceshield up, can i be given a ticket for not having eye protection? ORC 4511.53 requires eye protection. --As defined by ORC 4507.13, a Novice designation is set in place under certain instances for a time frame of one year, what are the limitations of one that is defined as a novice, as it pertains to MC riders? --Going with the previous comment. What is the definition of a Congested Roadway? --Can you be pulled over (obviously in a car/truck) for simply not wearing a seatbelt, or do you have to be pulled over for something else? ( I wear mine all the time, just curious) -- I work for an auto service center. If I am test driving a vehicle with expired tags (or some other similar restriction, like the vehicle owner having a suspended license) and i am pulled over for that, what charges can be brought against me? my company?
  19. ..yeah. what ARE you giving these newbs? this newb is looking for someone looking to trade down from a 600cc+ bike to a ninja500. Still can't imagine why no one wants to do this?! maybe you can give me a lead, lol.
  20. Got pics uploaded. http://www.ohio-riders.net/showpost.php?p=262964&postcount=812
  21. Make: Kawasaki Model: Ex500 Year: 1996 Mods: FOG Airbox Mod, ZX600 Clutch Springs. Mods to Come: Add dogbones to raise the bike.
  22. I do occasionally take One-a-day for men: energy. interesting. Im guessing at this point its bad grip on the bars. It's impossible to tell tone via internet. I wasn't trying to say "I'm teh best ryder evars!", it was supposed to come out as "Hey, I may ride an entry-level bike, but i feel like i hold my own very well in the corners". No offense was meant, it was said merely as a defensive response. sorry if i ruffled any feathers. enlighten me as to more manageable on corner exits. (maybe in PM?) as in, the rear slips out due to the power of the 1000 vs the 600? I havent ridden a 600+cc hard yet, but it definately felt VERY stable into/out of corners compared to the little 500, but didnt turn in anywhere near as well. (guess thats the trade-off...more power for less initial turn in)
