  1. I had two semi's on I-70 on the east side flash the lights AND wave me me in to the exit to 270 north, this was after a line of cagers tighten up their formation as to make me miss the exit(won't happen), made damn sure the trucks knew I was grateful. Mike
  2. I packed rain gear just in case, even brought my dry top I use when white water kayaking, has gaskets in the arms and neck, hope I don't need them. I plan on doing this every wed., different trip each week, open for suggestions. Plotted a trip to port clinton, marblehead and any route that runs next to the lake, but mileage was getting up there for a 5-7 hour trip, plus that part of the state the roads are flat and straight for the most part, really wanted to take the bikes to put in bay, but not much to ride out there but it would be cool. Bike is a month old, got 2700 miles on Kelly(named her last night after the 3 kelly's I fell in love with from afar in high school, wife's not pleased but not surprised either) hope to double that before the seasons out(kids back in school, then no babysitter for the youngest, no day rides for me after august). Looking forward to the ride, cmon Julie, I know you have the day off, and moose, thanks for riding with the wife and I a few days back, can you manage a trip with us tomorrow? Mike
  3. Updated route, added 541 and a few minor changes http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=283518 Mike
  4. My cell is 614-537-2586, who is all going?
  5. Sounds good, will update the route tonight after pool league. Plan on meeting at AMA at 10am. Mike
  6. Thinking about cutting out the mt vernon part of the trip and head straight to coshocton and running some roads out that way then continue on. So who is in so far. I'm working on getting another hour off so I could be gone from 10am to 5 pm, I like to stop and smell the roses, plus rest my back from time to time. We can meet at the AMA museum or my house, about 5 minutes away, easy to find. Mike
  7. hope this works, here is the proposed trip, feel free to suggest changes, I haven't rode out that way yet, will update and bring printed final maps with me tomorrow. http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=283176
  8. I'm seeing about 50%, looks hit and miss. I'm stuck, wed is only day I can go, I'm bringing my rain gear just in case.

I'm going to post the route I have to date, don't know the roads that well, really hoping you guys can edit my route and I'll plug it into my gps and print out turn sheets for everyone, please help with the route, I don't mind a bit!

    Mike

  9. We can always meet somewhere in the middle, not a problem. No Julie, the wife knows about this one but thinks I should work around the house on my kid free wed.
  10. wed is the only day I can go for more than a couple hours. I haven't finalized the route yet, just looking to ride SOMEWHERE...lol
  11. Going to Start in Pickerington, can meet at the AMA museum, head to Mt veron, then coshocton, to Salt fork then run back roads south of I 70 below Buckeye lake to 204 back to Pickerington, total route 211 miles, I plan on leaving about 830-900am and a strict return by 4pm. Open for ideas, changes. Mike
  12. Hope you guys had fun, I kayak the darby about 20 times a year, with a few overnight trips thrown in for good measure. The darby is running about 72 cfs, normal for this time of the year is 30-40 cfs, so they shouldn't have to drag much. Fishing(I go for smallmouth bass) has been pretty slow the last month or so, heat of the summer deal, but the water is warm enough for a swim.
  13. I didn't want one on the bike as well, until I rode the wifes a few days, now I can deal with the looks, plus its a quick release if I want to go naked.
  14. Went out alone, took rt 33 to lake logan(rt 664) to took it to rt 56 and headed east. Went into Athens, then took 550 east to the triple nickel. Being a new rider with 2000 miles in less than a month I must say I did surprisingly well. I took my time, and a bunch of breaks. Dove off on 669 and got back on 204, stopped over at buckeye lake for another break, my back was killing me at this point, then rode the short distance on 204 back to pickerington. I was gone 10 am to 4 pm, rode 211 miles, several cigarettes, 3 bottles of water and 2 bathroom breaks, and a BMT from subway from some dinky burg. http://picasaweb.google.com/mikera67/July1520091?feat=directlink Here is some pics from my phone, forgot to charge my camera again. Mike
  15. Thx Julie, I had a ball as well, and its funny my neighbor is a friend of you guys, just talked to Justin and moose(if I remember right) as I was cutting the grass. Kayaking has been my first love for many years, I own 3 kayaks, 2 SOT's(sit on tops) and one SINK(sit inside) the SOT's are SOOO much easier to use. I have about 15 or so fellow kayak'ers here in Columbus, we go about every week, and we goto rodeo's(get togethers at a river, mostly out of state with roughly 30-60 guys from 10 or so different states, fish during the day, drink and lie at night(tents). I'm a Smallmouth bass fishermen first, kayakers second, but I have done the whitewater stuff in my own yaks up to class 3(not in OHIO!) and let me tell you its scarier than doing rt 188 at 170mph, rafting the same stuff is easy, pucker factor in a small boat is high. If you ever want to go, let me know, I can round up enough boats from my buddies for a few of us to go. I don't do the trapper john run, too many people, we go south of there , almost to circleville, or north, way north. Mike
  16. Here is my Pics, link to my album. http://picasaweb.google.com/mikera67/2009OhioRidersBoltonB17?feat=directlink Mike
  17. Very cool. that is too funny. I wondered about all the different riders at your place, lol. Mike
  18. I'm too lazy to get the pics off my phone. I ended up doing an overnight kayak trip sat to sunday on the big darby, we launched an hour before that 2 hour DOWNPOUR, everything we had was soaked, stopped raining when we camped and spend the night drying stuff by the fire, our other suppies were ok, 4 cases of adult beverages, 5th bourbon, a 2 quarts of white lightning. I feel terrible. Mikke
  19. Yes, if your right I think your my next door neighbor, how weird is that! Will find out tonight. Mike
  20. Wish I could have went the rest of the way, but at least the wife's no wiser, I just "happened" to run into you guys at the plane.... Mike
  21. had a ball. It was pretty cool, we just walked into the hanger and asked if it would be ok if we rode the bikes in for a photo op, guy was more than cool, even took some pics for us. Trying to keep up with the sport bikes in my cruiser was a ball, rt 188 got some air time!!! I knew it was bad doing 90 and seeing them disappear like ants. Will post my cell pics later tonight. Bowed out when we hit 33, guys are still heading south... Mike
  22. getting ready to roll, leaving pickerington should be there 12 :15 or so
  23. I rode dirtbikes and BMX as a kid, its been 25 plus years and I'm a bit rusty, but the 950 has been perfect for me. Had her 3 weeks and 1700 miles. My wife's friend took the MSF course, then a few days later freaked out on an easy turn in the road and wiped out, broke 4 ribs and $3000 to her bike with 25 miles on it. I think the course is a good starting point, but going to a lot and working on the slow speed stuff will help the more you do it. I have the u-turn down on the 950( like 24 feet box?) and have gotten pretty good doing the cone part, set up I'm not real sure about though. The swerve I wish I knew how it was set up, guess I need to head to a DMV and give it a try, I can borrow a friends dual sport, I think like a 250 if I want, but I want to try it on my bike first, stubborn. Mike
  24. I did all three at one time, plus no helmet that ride, hey she was good looking and no relation to me!
  25. I'm in, told the misses I was out making money, the kids will be fine by themselves for a few hours, 12 10 and 3. Should be there 12 to 12:30 Mike
