New bar end. Tell them the fairing must be fixed so there's no scratch visible, so repaint ro replace is up to them as long as it's fixed. If the fairing is cracked the replace. If they can find a matching used fairing that is in the same condition that yours was before they dropped it then fine. As far as the service, I'd only want it comp'd if they wind up keeping the bike for much longer than the service was planned for. If they keep the bike for two weeks to fix then I'd be looking for something back on the service if... - You're having to pay extra gas to cage it instead - You have to get a taxi to pick up the bike because your original ride can't make it on the revised pickup date etc. - You miss a planned ride If they can fix it and return it to you in a reasonable time then I'd still plan to pay for the service, and if they discount of comp it then sure. At least they were honest. Some places would never tell you and deny everything when you saw the damage.

Lane splitting: Not addressed in codes or statutes?
Scruit replied to Mc_spirited's topic in Daily Ride
I'm talking about letting us pass *stopped* traffic (or crawling) traffic. Not traffic moving at normal speed. The law should say we can lane split at up to 10mph if the speed of traffic is stopped, or less than 10mph. It should also state that any motorist or passenger who opens a door while in a travel lane is automatically liable if a rider hits the door. It should also say that cars should stay in the center of the lane in stop-and-go traffic to allow a clear path for splitting. It should also say that any driver who intentionally blocks a biker from splitting lanes is to be soundly beaten. -
Here's the basic problem. - Drunk drivers cause accidents and deaths. - Cellphone user cause accidents and deaths. Simply outlawing these things will not stop them from happening, even with huge fines or jail time. The only things that will stop them happening are effective enforcement (you WILL get caught) or physically preventing them from happening. - Red light / speed cameras are effective as they catch almost everyone who breaks the law. - DUI interlocks are effective because a drunk can't start his car. But nobody wants to put interlocks in every single car because they are too invasive, and nobody likes red light / speed cameras because they are too effective (or run in an apparently corrupt manner). So we're back to square one - no effective enforcement of laws and no physical barriers. Meanwhile, Drunk and cellphone users kill more bikers. Second verse, same as the first... Lane splitting: Not addressed in codes or statutes?
Scruit replied to Mc_spirited's topic in Daily Ride
To me lane splitting stopped or crawling traffic can only help ease congestion. Cars don't have to get out of our way, we can squeeze through existing gaps, and we're reducing the number of vehicles in the tailback. It would have be couple with a better driver education program aimed at making sure drivers don't open doors on us. Also, how to deal with people who intentionally block lane splitters? I don't lane split. I just think it would be a win-win in stopped traffic because bikes get through quicker and cars also get through quicker because the bikes are no longer taking up car-sized lane positions. -
If running the stop sign is the only thing he did (ie not drunk, speeding, suspended) then he's probably looking at vehicular manslaughter, M2, depending on his other record. RIP Rider. That's how quick it can all go to crap.

Do you have a cite for that? I've been looking. There needs to be an change to the law to specifically allow bikes to filter through stopped traffic. -

What if the motorcycle can pass the car in front without crossing over the lane divider? -
Worst road rage I got in the guy slammed his door into my fender $850 damage. Got it on video, stayed in my car. He was arrested, charged with criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. He plead out the DC and just got the CM (M3). If I got out of the car and got into it with him then I'd have come away with a DC myself. The video made it a slam dunk. The guy told the judge he did not have a lawyer because every lawyer he talked to told him he would lose and he would be better being crontrite and pleading guilty than paying a lawyer and still being found guilty.

Blue-sky: Don't take any of these as serious suggestions, just the product of a frustrated mind that is sick of hearing of riders maimed by drivers who suffer little or no consequences... Idea 1: New law. If a cager causes an innocent biker to get seriously injured then those injuries should be duplicated on cager. Biker loses a leg? Amputate the cager's leg. Rider dies? Dust off ol' sparky. How many cagers would act like a pr*ck aorund bikers if they knew THEIR safety was on the line too. Of course realistically this would unconstitutional (Cruel and unusual) and would result in a massive increase in hit-skip accidents where the cager is too scared of the the punishment to stay and help the injured bikers. Idea 2: New law: All new cars get accident-avoidance tech (Volvos already have rear-end accident avoidance - add stop-sign-running-avoidance, lane-change-accident-avoidance, red-light-running-avoidance, left-turn-accident-avoidance...) Every time the safety feature kicks in it reports back to the police and driver gets a ticket in the mail. How many cagers would have near-misses if EVERY near miss was ticketed whether it was seen by a police officer or not. Idea 3: You have to ride a motorcycle for a year before you qualify for a car license.

I have those same gloves, but in black. Have to say, though, I imagine if I have time to punch their car I have time to get away from them. I've been in a similar situation and my first thought has always been to get away. We should be allowed to turn in video of idiots on the road and have them ticketed for it.

This is Poland - not America. Do they have "nice big settlements?" Hopefully she has insurance at her practice - but that may not cover an intentionally criminal act. I hope the revenge was worth it because her career is over.

I hope the mods let it stay up for a while.

That's from England. Emergency number is 999. Did you dial 100 or 0 for operator in the US? 100 for operator was only for British Telecom. After deregulation other phone companies had different numbers for operator.

Valid questions. 20 months without a cure sounds quite excessive. I wonder how accurate the new report is.

It is always wise to keep an open mind. I came across an accident near my home where a Durange had its passenger door caved in and a motorbike has its front wheel/forks crushed into the engine. The vehicles were not at final resting position (lined up on shoulder) so it wasn't clear what had happened. This was in an intersection notorious for impatient left-turners taking risks. Seeing the door caved in and damaged forks I immediately assumed the Durango turned left in front of the bike. When the police report was filed I finally saw that the biker had simply missed the stop sign and emerged from the sidestreet onto the cross street and right into the SUV's door. Yeah, things aren't always as they seem.

Can't comment on the bike's speed. I will say that the further back on the car you hit, the more time passed between the car starting the turn and the impact. Hitting the front of the car means that almost no time passed between the driver starting the turn and the bike hitting. **This is all speculation** It generally takes a car about 3-4 seconds for a car to make a left turn from stopped. Refugee road at Courtright is a straight-as-a-die 5-lane road (2 east, 2 west and a turn lane) with no visual barriers and visibility for at least half-a-mile. For him to hit the center from I will assume he was in the left lane (but the time she crossed the right lane she would have been turned nearly broadside which would more likely result in a glancing impact with the front of the car). Once she hit the gas she would be in his lane in under a second. The turn lane is immediately adjacent to the oncoming travel lane with no spacing between. Even if he was doing 100mph, he would still be only about 145 feet from the intersection. Plainly visible in the bright sunlight at 7:15. "He was speeding" is a common defense to a left-turn accident. There is an obscure section of ORC that states any car that is seeding has no right -of-way, however it may have been repealed because I can't find it any more - and I've personally witnessed a judge refuse to consider the oncoming car's speed unless they were not visible when the turn started. Again, Refugee road is straight as a die with visibility for half a mile each way. For the bike to be speeding enough to be out of visible range when the driver started to turn the bike would have to be doing nearly 2,000 mph. **That was all speculation** I'm interested in pulling that police report when it's filed.

They didn't elaborate on his complications, but priapism can result in impotence, blood clots and even gangrene/amputation. Long term priapism resulting in the inability to get-it-on is pretty easy to believe. It's a pity. I heard he was a fine, upstanding citizen.

IIRC, He contends that there was a ridge on the seat (Corbin seat?) that pressed against a nerve, causing damage to that nerve. he is suing Corbin for making the seat and BMW for installing the seat on his bike. Pretty ballsy move.

Interesting. The badly-written opinion article in the OP (written by Zimmermans' personal cheerleader, apparently) said we was "reportedly" going to sue, but gave no cite or reference to substantiate that assertion.
