  1. If he asked $2k I'd be all over it. I wanna call him just to laugh until he hangs up the phone.
  2. http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/2458001855.html Even accounting for the low miles and "Excellent" condition this is a $2k car.
  3. *I* don't need A/C but my 7yo will commute with me and I don't want to cook him.
  4. I'm a Japanese car fan. Had Subaru and Nissan and found them to be bulletproof if looked after. Had a Taurus/Jeep and they were alway breaking. Our Grand Prix was solid though. I'd take a clean Civic/Accord/Corolla/Camry/Maxima in a heartbeat. Domestics are cheaper so I can get a newer one. Want to avoid "nice" cars for that price range because they are probably BTS. No Camaro/Firebird/Mustang etc. They're that cheap because there's somethign wrong with them.
  5. So, it's looking like I won't be able to ride or drive stick for up to 3 months (maybe more depending on recovery time) because of my broken left ankle. I'll know for sure weds of next week, but I'm not hopeful for this riding season. Anyway, I have a rented car (automatic) for 2 weeks that's costing me $250/wk. If I extend this out to 3mo then it works out to be $2,500. If I truly can't drive my stickshift for up to 3 months then rather than renting a car for 3mo (or trading my car for an auto - I'd rather cut my balls off) I figure I'd be best off simply buying a ~$2k car from CL. I do a lot of work on cars (frame-up restos etc) so I'm sure I can get a decent car that will run well. Don't care what it looks like as long as it's reliable for my 50mi daily commute. Once I'm fit enough to drive my stick I'd sell the car for hopefully not much less than I paid for it. The difference in buying price and selling price will be a shitload less than $2500, I gaurantee that. Been looking on CL and I see a BUNCH of CRAP, but I see some good stuff too. My plan is to have $2k cash waiting and to jump on any decent car I see - call/visit as soon as it's posted. Saw a couple of good cars tonight. A female college student selling a 2000 Taurus for ~$2k. Perfect. Just need to avoid all the "A/C needs charged" (meaning A/C is hemmoragin r134 through the fucked compressor) or "Takes a while to shift" (meaning new transmission needed before I get it home) Anyone see any problems with my logic? The intent is not to buy a vehicle I'd have for a long time, just 3mo of commuting. The only things I will be a hardass on are: - Must be a non-smoking car. My wife is deathly allergic to cig smoke, even residual - Must be auto. That's the whole point, right? - Must have no current problems with the drivetrain. - Must have no "just needs...." problems that probably just mask a bigger problem. Your Jeep needs an A/C charge? No, it needs a new evaporator, $1,400 labor please. - Must be ready to drive. I'm not doing a head gasket job with my foot in an aircast regardless of how much under book value it is. Other than that I'm easy. Any make/model/style considered. I'm not out to pull chicks and I'm not going to fall into the trap of going for a $2k 1998 BMW which is probably going to have some expensive problems versus a 1998 $2k taurus which is ready to go.
  6. I did 800 mile around lake Erie last year. Was surprised byt he fact that I wasn't bored in the slightest. Get out there, see new places, meet new people. I sat and talked with a guy in a Tim Horton's in Ontario. Talked about bikes and all kinds of things. Then I rode for 30 miles through twisties in upstate New York. Epic roads, a blast. If all you want to do is "get there", then drive.
  7. That shop has some explaining to do. Or maybe they were innocent and just fixing it for someone and they had better direct the police towards whoever brought them the bike.
  8. I'm with you. These are all good reasons why I hate the "civil" nature of camera tickets. Shit, or get off the pot. They need to be either traffic tickets (with due process) or nothing.
  9. You're not being charge with a crime, so there is no criminal court process. You are being sued for running the red light, not charged. I hate that setup. I am *for* the cameras though. Under these conditions: - Footage should be reviewed and tickets should be issued by a sworn LEO - The tickets should be regular traffic tickets, with due process - Let the people decide if the camers take a pic of your face and they ticket the driver for running the red, or if they are not allowed to photograph the driver and instead ticket the owner for something like wrongful entrustment. - The cost of the camera system should be fixed and set in stone in the contract, and the company that sells/leases/maintains the cameras are not allowed to link their cost to enforcement activity in any way.
  10. Surprised Mr.Minivan was brave enough to say *anything* to a biker considering his balls are obviously kept in a baggie in his wife's purse.
  11. WTH? What an (expletive) "You know, you can be jealous without being a dick about it..."
  12. The bike was tired and taking a nap.
  13. I'm a MySQL Database Administrator. At work we use a tool called "mysqldump" to backup databases. I can't count the number of times I've had to hold back childish giggles because my co-worker said; "I'll be there, just gotta take a quick dump (of this database)". TMI dude. T M F'n I
  14. Just got back fro the ortho. It's broken, AND a grade 3 sprain (meaning the ligaments are torn completely) Have to get an MRI later this week. In an air cast for now. No biking for a couple weeks at least. The MRI will tell us if the ankle is healing, or if surgery will be required.
  15. Hot Girls is why everything is invented.
  16. People die on The Throne all the time. Doens't make "taking a dump" an extreme sport. (although there was this one time the guy in the stall next to me sounded like he thought it was... FIBER, Dude!! FIBER!!!)
  17. Planking is also known as "extreme lying down". And it has been fatal in at least one case. ("Planking" on a balcony at a tall building, fell off)
  18. The worst of this is coming your way... http://radar.weather.gov/Conus/full_loop.php
  19. Anyone else see the irony that the product is made by KIApet.com? If you use this then should you expect your pet to be KIA?
  20. I'm rooted. 2.3 update failed at first until I renamed the cityid and blockbuster apps back to .apk. After that the update worked despite being rooted. Haven't tried texts or calls yet, will let you know.
  21. Bump for day 3 pics in first post. The bruising seems to have stopped expanding and the amount of "sponginess" around the skin has decreased. This sprain is not as bad as my last big one (I'm prone to them, even just walking down the street) where the bruise expanded all the way up to my knee. I'm walking on it pretty normally right now if I stretch it out gently. If I rest it then it likes to seize up. I'm avoiding painkillers so I have the proper pain feedback if I do something stupid. Been driving my car (stick) and lawn tractor (clutch-operated) with no problems at all. Going to cage it until I can get it checked out, tho. Still, going to set up an ortho appt in the morning.
  22. Sellers always list high so they have room to negotiate. I just sold my bike on CL - listed it here for 2500 and got no takers. Listed it it on CL for 3500 and after negotiations with the buyer we got to 2500. Which is exactly what I wanted for it in the first place. Just enough to pay off the medical bills for my broken nose.
  23. I don't put my number out there until I get an email from you that makes me believe you have read my ad. "I'm interested in the item" = fuck off. "Who makes the heated grips you installed?" = Human who read the ad. I don't mind email negotiation. I actually prefer it. Much less stress. I already have a rock bottom price and won't go below that. Email negitiations won't change that. The seller can be a hardass if he gets a lot of responses, and the buyer can be a hardass if there's a dozen for him to choose from. I don't think email negotiations give either side an unfair advatange. Price negotiations in email are not binding. If you get there and want to change your mind then either of you can walk away. Although if you offer less than we agreed in email then you'd better have a DAMN good reason, such as highlighting a fault that I didn't know about and hadn't accounted for in the price.
  24. I just sold a bike on CL and the negotiating in price was done via email. It worked for us. The inspection and deal was easy.
  25. FLIR can see through light tree coverage. Underground parking for a mall??
