  1. I noticed today that the county is paving River Road from Philo to Gaysport.Paving that section of River Road will make a great detour around 555 when it closes. As a matter of fact this route is far better than the upper section of 555 anyway.

    555>River Road s>Left@Gaysport Bridge>376 s>78 w>669 n>555@ Deavertown.

Both 376 from Gaysport to McConnelsville and 669 from Eaglesport to Deavertown are very good roads.

You can also just blitz down 60 to 376 at Gaysport.

  2. Thanks. One to put on the agenda for the summer. I did the 56-356-50-278 loop today. I woulda checked it out if I'd known.

You went right by two really good recently paved roads...as mentioned here 685, and 691.Both are now completely finished and ready to go.

If you want another great twisty ride head over to 669 that runs between Crooksville and Eaglesport. It goes farther on each end,but that's the fun, newly paved section.

  3. Just iron butt it out to Denver, get the IBA plate, and spend more time riding in Colorado.:D

There's nothing between Columbus and Denver that is going to be as good as once you get into the mountains of Colorado.Plus, that IBA plate would look real good on that Multistrada.:)

  4. This. Memorial Day in Hocking Hills? No thank you.

You'd better LOVE the sight of this because it's all you're gonna see.

Not necessarily...just dig a little deeper. If you stay off of 664 and the lower section of 374 you should be o.k.Try some of the good county roads such as Big Pine,Thompson Ridge,Kreashbaum and Illsboro-Ceder Falls to name a few. Also,go a little east to 356 and freshly paved 691.You won't see to much tourist traffic on any of these roads except possibly Big Pine.

  5. 691 has the base layer down in both directions and the finish layer down for about 2/3 of its length in the north bound lane and a little less in the south bound lane.A very good ride with just the base layer.

Here's a snaky section in the middle of 691 today...

You might want to hit it before ODOT edges it with gravel...here's what 685 looks like two weeks after being edged...

  6. I've ridden all those roads several times, and all I can say is...if you haven't ridden them, you truly can't appreciate what Ohio has to offer!

We had 23 bikes from 5 states and Canada and several people said the east route was one of the top 10 rides they have ever ridden. We didn't get to ride the west route. That's pretty high praise from a group of riders that have ridden most of the good stuff in America and some of Canada.

These two routes will definitely show you why people hold Southeastern Ohio riding in high regard. It's all here...creek followers, ridge top rides, forest roads, climbs and descends and the natural beauty of the Hocking Hills.

  7. How's the pavement? Have done most if not all of those roads and they really are fun. Good stuff!

The East route...564 is being paved right now...thank God.First mile of CR15-Dalzell Rd is about a 6 on a 1to10 scale, then at the county line it becomes a 9 or 10.536 is about a 5 or 6.The 78 section is about a 6 or 7,but it is being paved this year.147 is a little rough in places, but overall about an 8.Long Ridge and Short Ridge roads are pretty rough, but they are just used to get to an outstanding overlook at Keidash Piont Park. The rest of the East route is at least an 8 with some sections sporting brand new pavement...bottom of 800,145,part of 565,parts of 26 and 148 come to mind.

The West route...The West route has very good pavement on nearly the entire route. The only exceptions that come to mind are 329 and 676 are probably about a 6 or 7,and 691 is rough, but it is being paved right now.As you know 374 has new pavement as does 339 from Beverly to Dexter City, both outstanding rides!:)

  8. We just finished the 2012 FJR Ramble and I thought some long distance twisty lovers might be interested in a couple of very good routes. We had one route for East of I-77 and one route for West of I-77.Unfortuneately, we didn't get to do the West route due to rain...we'll do it later in the summer or fall. These are long routes at 312 miles and 347 miles, but you can slice 'em and dice 'em for shorter loops...a lot of good stuff here...

  9. Can't think of any real good eats, but you're in for a pleasant surprise when you get to where 669 and 555 share the same route...brand new pavement. If you like really curvy rides, hang a left and take 669 down to Eaglesport.

  10. Wow,we're going to be down there on part of our FJR Ramble Sunday...awful nice of them to clean the corners for us.While they're in the neighborhood do you think they might be able to clean Big Pine,Thompson Ridge and Illsboro-Ceder Falls?

  11. I love new pavement on twisty roads! Here's a few of the paving projects I've came across recently. If anyone else knows of a good road being paved, please let us know.

669 form Eaglesport to Crooksville in Morgan and Perry counties is in the process of being paved. The base layer is complete both ways and should be getting a finish layer this week.A section of 669 is shared with 555 for about 8 miles.

685 from Jackson(just south of Glouster on 13) to Buchtel (North of Nelsonville on 78) is just about done.Base layer is done in both directions and the finish layer is complete in th westbound lane.I've been waiting for this road to get paved for about 7 years,it's short at about 6 miles, but there's some good riding here.

691 in Athens county between 33 and 56 is being preped and should begin paving this week. The paving equipment is sitting at the south end. This we'll be fun!

  12. This is sad. We all talk about "Political Parties" like they mean something.

Democrats and Republicans are all bought and paid for by their "Sponsors" aka "Campaign Contributors", and vote the way they have been paid to vote.

This is equivalent to paying someone to clean your house. You pay for them to vacuum, do dishes, pick up, etc. If you want the silverware to be polished, then you will pay extra.

^^ I had a nice analogy using prostitution for sexual favors.....but you get the point.

Our government(and the media) are not "For the People, by the People", they are held for auction, and paid for by the highest bidder. We have the thin veneer of Democracy covering an Oligarchy based upon wealth.

There is little or nothing we can do to make a difference, other than do the research into our candidates, and vote based upon their track record.

Unfortunately, there are too many lemmings who just soak up and follow the political (and media driven) rhetoric, to allow the intelligent voters to try and clean up this mess.

    {This rant brought to you by my work....making me get up at the ass-crack of dawn to perform maintenance on the systems......}

A lot of truth in what you said.

If it wasn't for the debt that I feel I owe to the men and women that served in combat I wouldn't vote.

  13. Here we go again...another silver spooner running for the white house.

Like W,Romney's biggest achievement in life is being a rich man's sperm.

We're still digging out from the last republican sperm count's idiocy.

Republican party...the party of Alzheimer patients.
