Welfare recipient says why work, it's free money
20thGix replied to chevysoldier's topic in Dumpster
Me either. After looking into it, it appears there is a max set to the weekly benefits you can recieve ($557). I didnt know that. I always assumed you got whatever percentage of your income. -
How old is it and what kind of components?

Ive looked in Dayton, Cincy, Lima and Columbus area. Yeah there are some great bikes available but not quite in the price range im looking. Its heading into winter so im sure its just a matter of time till something comes along. As far as what size, im just going on what she told me and looking for anything smaller as well. Its my sister-in-law not the wife. I asked my wife how tall her sister was and she told me 5ft. So i dont know exact height or inseam and just taking that she knows what she wants.
-
After talking to her more, she says she could also fit a youth bike as well. I think she is like 5ft. tall at best.
-
Sorry for any confusion.....i do mean peddle bike.

My sister-in-law is looking for a used road bike. I was told the frame size can be no bigger than 51cm and im assuming something made from this century or at the end of the last. Her price range is about $400. I've looked around my general area(within an hour of Dayton)on CL but its slim pickings at the moment. So if you have something or know someone let me know and i can pass it along.

Your not afraid. Your just not a morbid person that likes to watch that kind of stuff. I used to think it was cool/neat to watch the "Faces of Death" videos back in the day but now that im older its just not for me.

I did everything fine, i think i was just expecting something else. A smart TV is able to connect to the internet alowing you to use Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime and what have you without needing something like a Roku box. They sell DVD players that do the same thing. Just an example: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/m-series-32-class-31-1-2-diag--led-1080p-120hz-smart-hdtv/8790111.p?id=1218895764645&skuId=8790111&st=categoryid$abcat0101001&cp=1&lp=8 Also here is a DVD player that will do the same:http://www.bestbuy.com/site/smart-wi-fi-built-in-blu-ray-player/7830129.p?id=1218861011781&skuId=7830129&st=categoryid$abcat0102003&cp=1&lp=1 But if your not upgrading your TV or dont already have a Playstation or Xbox then Roku (or something like that) wil do just fine.

Ive been looking into this same thing for some time. I would have pulled the trigger months ago if it wasnt for the wife. Even went as far as borrowing one of the neighbor's Roku boxes to try it out for a week. Wasnt overly impressed with the Roku but it works. I was under the impression the Roku box did a whole bunch more than your typical smart device. It basically did what my Xbox can do as far as TV apps. Maybe some extra but i really didnt want to mess around to much with the way they had their Roku set up. In the event that i do drop cable i think i would just upgrade the tube TV in the bedroom to a smart TV and use the Xbox in the living room until that TV takes a shit. Then upgrade that one as well. Seems anymore all TV's offered now are capable of doing what a Roku box can do. Also along with what redkow said, The neighbor said he definatley watches less TV now. He said sometimes its just to much of a pain in the ass to find what you want to watch.

Worked for me.

I think you worded your last sentence wrong. "I don't condone nor do I agree with being gay." In that sentence your saying: I do not accept or allow, nor agree with being gay. In which your basically repeating yourself in the same sentence. I think what you were trying to say was, I dont agree with being gay but to each his own.

Whatever it takes. You got to start somewhere. i did the C25K also a little over a year ago. Looking back, im shocked at how out of shape i was that running for a minute or two was that difficult. When i say running what i really mean is a slow shuffle. Here is something that helped me you might try. I also tried doing it on a treadmill at the YMCA but i my mind always talked me out of completing the scheduled workout because it was so easy to just hop of the treadmill and be done. Then i decided that out and backs were the way to go so there isnt a quick way out. Now that your 15 minutes down the road and your mind wants you to quit, too bad its another 15 minutes back to the car or house. Even if you have to walk the whole way back its still better than talking yourself into stopping short. A year or more later i still do this. Especially on long (to me) runs. I try to think of my long runs as 2 parts to trick myself into doing the whole thing instead of cutting it short. Also if your self concious about running in public, the reality is that no one cares what you look like or how slow you may be going. Out and backs have back-fired on me once though. I was a couple miles down the bike path and strained my calf and had to hobble all the way back to my car in cold rain. Of course that had to happen on one of the days i used an ipod instead of my phone for music/run tracking.

iirc, Part of the expansion of Medicaid would allow people that make up to 138% of the poverty level to qualify in Ohio. Even though the Fed gives the state cash, i believe the state has to cover 40% of the bill. Can the state afford the amount of people that Medicaid would open up to? Is it cheaper for them to enter the exchange (ACA)? I dont know the answer to these but i assume they are concerns of the state. Edit- also im sure political reasons aswell.

The little i did look into Medicaid requirments for my previous post (basically income levels) , i did see that there are a bunch of rules as to who can qualify. Assets, gifting money to family and other things that could get you denied for a certain period of time. <---Only skimmed over that stuff so take that for what its worth.

Check with 12oclocker. Havent seen him post in a while but he makes all sorts of electronic stuff. I've spoke with him about fixing some fried electronics before. http://ohioriders.net/index.php?/user/10113-12oclocker/ His website also: http://12oclocklabs.com/ Worth a shot.

Even if Ohio does not expand coverage this person would still qualify for Medicaid in Ohio making only 30% of the national poverty level. So no they wouldnt get any subsidy under ACA but under Medicaid they would. Here is another example using the same calculator: 2 adults 30yr. old non-smokers 2 kids Combined income- $33k (that $8 an hr. working 40hr. a week.) 213% poverty level $2226 for insurance (about $42 a week for insurance. Which i would guess is cheaper than what most people pay for a employer based group plan) $6371 Gov't credit In the end i believe that the $2226 that is their share, effectively will be zero after its all said and done. Come tax time you could assume that this family will recieve a deduction for 2 dependents and sprinkle in some earned-income-credit which will more than cover the $2226. BOOM, free insurance with money left over for a party at Chucky Cheese. For them its totally affordable. Current MAX income for Medicaid in Ohio: Single: $10,344 (your example qualifies) Family of 4: $21,192 (my example does not and would benefit from ACA) So i think ACA really helps the working poor that make to much for Medicaid and not enough to pay for their own private plan (if none is offerred by their employer). Like Cdub said, im not arguing whats right or wrong or the effect of this program down the road as a whole. Just who may or may not benefit from the program.

Thats what happens when a single, young and healthy person enrolls in a group plan. They have to pay for the people that use the coverage the most. Tell him to go get a private plan on his own and it will be less than $100 a month.

What fizzer said. With a $500 limit on a new bike your still shopping at Walmart. When i was looking for a road bike the local bike shop could get me into a new base model bike at $800. Bikes values depreciate quickly. The road bike i ended up with the previous owner had bought it with a new frame and fork with used Ultegra components and had about $1200 in it not to mention the other goodies that came along/added to it (pedals, shoes, carbon parts, cyclometer...ect.). One year later he sold it to me for $400. Craigslist this winter should be full of other peoples bikes they wasted money on. There loss your gain.

im with Scruit. If i go to the doc. because im sick i pay 100% of the visit which has been around $100. Urgent care likes to get abit more out of you it seems. Normal check-ups and the kids wellness are all covered/paid buy my insurer. Zero out-of-pocket for me.

Could you not sign-up as a new emloyee? Also a HSA is where its at if your realativley healthy even with a family.

Playing around on the calculators on http://kff.org/ it seems that people that make too much for their states Medicare (which isnt much) and people that make low combined income. These prices are "estimated" for 2 adults 35yrs of age with 2 children. Combined Income $25k = $500 per yr./ $8900 credit $35k = $1400 / $8000 $45k = $2600 / $6700 $55k = $4100 / $5300 $65k = $5700 / $3700 $75k = $7100 / $2300 Also this is for people that do not use tobacco. Calculator says that there can be up to a 50% increase in premium is you smoke. I suggest quitting. Also it is assuming no pre-existing condition. Also if signing up for the exchange is a realistic option for you or anyone you know please go get a qoute on your own from an insurance provider. I have had my own private plan for a few years now and havent looked back. My company offerred family plan was getting way to expensive. As of now its cost an employee with a family $130+ per week. United Heath has alot of plans available and the prices qouted are within a few dollars of the actual costs when all is said and done. You dont have to sign up, wait for a phone call, email or anything. You can adjust alot of the details online. Of course when you actually sign up there are some more question you have to answer like, Are you fat?, Extra tall/short?, Ride a motorcycle and so on which will reflect the actual price. I think most will be suprised on the savings that can be had taking charge of you own health care. United Health is who i go through and have been happy with them. There have only been minor increases in my premium over the last few years. Nothing like the horror stories that it hear with group plans. Here's a link. https://www.uhone.com/default.aspx And no i dont work for them. Kinda sounded that way after re-reading that last paragraph.

Still puttung in the miles here. I have mixed in some biking as well. Two days a week i do run/ride bricks and try to do one day of just riding. I'm wanting to do a couple Duathlons next year. A competative Sprint distance is what im aiming for. I did see the other day that there are also mini duathlons with mile distances of 2-7-2. Last night i did a mock race for myself (with the transition area being the back of my truck....lol) and compared my time to previous races. Which would put me atleast in the top 10 overall and more often than not top 5 only being about 5minutes from the number 1 spot. Granted its not a huge field, maybe 30-40 people but a wins a win! As far as races i havent done any since May or June. I may do one or two by the end of the year. I like running in the cold better anyway.

Go take a look around Dye Mill Rd. at the gravel pit. A guy i work with has seen them there a few times this year while on the bike path.
