    Really good info. I was planning on getting MX boots for the protection. I'll make sure that I wear them some before going to the track.

    Ii was a little concerned about the comfort of leather race suits on a supermoto. That was the reason I was considering the MVD leathers as they say they are designed for supermoto. I know OMRL requires leather to race but I don't plan on racing at this time. Also Circleville is an asphalt only kart track as is the PIRC kart track, I don't know of any supermoto tracks near. I have a dirt and street helmet so I can try both.

    I have been watching some of the socal supermoto videos on YouTube, I'll search and see if I can find some more training videos from them.

     I've been watching AMA supermoto and S1GP. Seems to be mostly MX gear in AMA and more leather in S1GP.

    So I could ride down do a practice session with my street bike and ride back home if I wanted to?

    I will probably safety wire the oil plugs, zip tie the side stand and use a hitch rack to haul the bike down.

    I think I want some MX boots and leathers also. I have decent ADV gear but I know that the textile stuff is really only good for one slide, and the ADV boots dont provide much ankle protection.

    Any suggestions for a good classified site for used leathers?

  3. I have a DRZ400SM and would like to do some practice days at a Kart track with others so i can learn to ride better :D

    What do I need to do to the bike to bring it to a practice day at CRP?

    I know OMRL has considerable requirements for racing including removing lights and side stand, but this is my daily rider so I didn't want to have to do a bunch of work if it's not necessary for just a practice day.

    Also I don't have a leather suit yet, is one required? And any recommendations for brands or good sources for inexpensive suits? The MVD supermoto pants and jacket from Klutch Industries seems like a decent value, any experience?

    Luckily the DRZ likes 87 just fine. The advantages of riding modest performing 90s tech. :D

    I don't think I have put $5 in a tank yet. The Fall Gap trip had a bunch of $3 charges every day for gas at the pump and another $3 for a drink and/or snack.

  5. So far on my DRZ I have not balanced the new tires. Just lined up the dot with the valve stem and that's it.

    However I'm on a thumper, so plenty of vibes from the engine and I doubt I could hit triple digits without a steep hill. :D

    I'll probably pick up a harbor frieght balancer given the cost. The other brands I have seen seemed way over priced for what they provided.

  6. A good stiff clipless cycling shoe does make a difference in comfort and efficiency, especially for road riding. I tried to use road shoes once but the lack of ability to walk safely in the shoes is a turn off. So I only use MTB shoes when riding on the road. For the fatbike I use BMX pedals. The large platform works well with boots for the winter and allows me to put a foot down quicker when I fail to clear an obstacle off road. Given my lack of skill that is quite often :(

     Some of the off brand MTB shoes are decent at around $100 but most of the $50 shoes I have tried have been entirely too flexible, uncomfortable or both. Unfortunately this is one of those items where it is hard to go cheap.

    That buggy trail in Geauga county can be a really muddy mess this time of year. The headwaters trail is usually in pretty good shape with a few wet, but not real muddy spots. If it remains dry for the next couple weeks the "gravel" roads will probably be mostly hard pack and easily rideable with a skinny tired road bike. If it rains and or snows some next week the roads could get messier.

    IP, drop a couple psi in your tires, those trails should be easily navigable with a cross bike like your SS. Though I usually have some wide 41mm tires rather than the smaller tire you have.

    I think he is implying they are not as strong as traditional housing and can rupture if you use enough force. 

    It looks to me like those housing had wear at the point of failure. spiral wound housing would take significantly more wear before failing. The downside with spiral housing is that the compress more and can leave the brakes with a spongy feel.

    That has been a fun ride in the past. The first year was pretty epic with 6" of snow on most of the back roads. I and most of the participants road a fatbike but there were a surprising number of cyclocross bikes that year. It was really impressive watching them keep the bike upright in the conditions.

    Probably not going to make it this year. The cast comes off just a few days before and between that and holidays I am way out of shape. 

    I do intend to train for Funk Bottoms in June.

    Recently I changed the handlebar tape and brake pads on the Warbird and got a second disc for the spare wheels so I can switch between gravel tires and slicks with a simple wheel change.

    I bought a trainer off of a friend and bought the thru axle adaptor so I can start using it once the cast is off.

  10. I am 90% sure I will make this. 

    Riding down Wed and leaving Sat. Will be taking 2 days down and 2 days back home. 

    So looking for some bunk space. I'm not young and have a bad back so need a bed but willing to pay my share.

    Worst case I get a room at the Microtel but it would be nice to hang with the crowd without needing to worry about remaining sober so I could get to my bed. 

    Anyone have reservations with a spare bed?

  11. Our SD had school but the bus couldn't (didn't try to) get down our street. 

    Nice of the school to let us know we had to provide transportation today. :(

    The commute to work was ofcourse fun, but it could have been worse.

    My coworker decided a WR250R was perfect for the conditions and rode his bike to work :motothumbsup:

    They had a small selection of but pretty nice selection of Triumphs. The Thruxton R with a bubble fairing was a real looker if you like 70s retro bikes.

    I was there Sunday morning. The stunt show was impressive. Not the most attractive Duc but I like the Hypermotard. Just feels right to me when I sit on it. I'll have to get a test ride on one some day.

    The KTMs are getting some very fugly head lights.

    The new R6 was also had some pretty fugly headlights but was the easiest of the supersports I tried to fold myself into. I still dont think I could ride a SS without killing myself. Not just due to the power but due to the contortions I'm required to do to ride one.

    I like the Z125 better than the Grom. Interesting how Kawasaki put the the Z125 is the corner closest to the Honda booth :)

    The Suzuki VanVan is the same engine size, weight and tire sizes as the Yamaha TW. The TW is sold as a dual sport, the VanVan is obviously configured/sold as a street bike. :wtf: However the VanVan seat was super wide and soft. very odd on a bike.

    I cant understand why they wont cover MC parking. Not like that is going to be a huge revenue loss for a Cleveland event in January. Only a few crazies/diehards will ride unless the weather is in the 1% like last Sunday. Even then 90% will drive.

    Since I'm in a walking boot I cant ride anyways this year so I'm trying to see who I can go with to save on parking. $10/car is excessive, especially given the availability. But the city of Cleveland does have a monopoly on park at the IX center, so they can charge as much as they want.

    The "All One Color" works just fine if you dont use the default color of white :D

    Mine is not very impressive either. The Fall Gap Trip covered all but 2 of the states on my current map.

    Christini have been making 2WD motorcycles for years.

    I believe it uses a cable drive along the forks similar to your weedwacker.

     

  16. Not sure what advantage there would be to a front track. There should be excessive amounts of traction from the rear track. A front ski would be much lighter and probably handle better.

    The gyroscopic effect is way over rated in making stable bicycles and motorcycles. The "bike" should handle just fine.

    Tracked motorcycles look like they would be a ton of fun in serious snow conditions. Probably require some skill to ride well given the conditions.

    I have to suspect they intend to use some of the technology, tooling and manufacturing capacity for Polaris's Indian brand. Indian still has a pretty limited model selection and I imagine small volume. The main reason for closing it is that the 2 directly compete, so I greatly doubt they would sell it.
