  1. I've always enjoyed listening to the August cicadas...August being my favorite part of the year as well.

Met a lady from Canada (not the French kind, so she was OK) who had never heard Cicadas before. She thought they actually sounded ominous and scary--as if there were some giant creature in the woods... :D

  2. I wasnt aware that they were ever gone...I remember seeing and hearing those fuckers every year since I was a kid

    From ODNR:

Based on the year of adult emergence, cicadas are grouped into broods with each appearing during a different year. Due to staggered development, adults appear somewhere almost every year and since some brood territories overlap, a few areas may experience more than one emergence during a 17 year period.

Adult periodical cicadas have red eyes and dark bodies and measure slightly over 1 1/2 inches long. They do not bite or sting. Adults live about four to six weeks during which their sole purpose is to mate and lay eggs. Cicada “songs” will be heard from early morning to late evening as long as adults are present. Males are responsible for the droning noise as they call for mates. Periodical cicadas should not be confused with dog day cicadas which are larger in size, mostly green with black eyes, and appear each August in small numbers.“Flagging” or breakage from slits

Adult cicadas do not feed. Damage to deciduous trees (especially oak, apple, dogwood, and hickory) occurs when the female cicada cuts two parallel slits in small (pencil-sized) twigs where she lays 24 - 48 eggs. Sometimes a continuous slit 2 - 3 inches long is formed as she moves up a twig, repeating this process. The slits cause browning, breakage, and scarring on affected branches. The eggs hatch in six weeks and young cicadas, or nymphs, fall to the ground where they burrow into the soil and spend the next 17 years feeding on small roots. At the end of this time, usually in May and early June, nymphs crawl out of the soil and climb up tree trunks or other vertical objects where they shed their nymphal skin and emerge as adults.

  3. Alpinestars Stage perforated leather jacket Size 42/52 $110 (with liner)

Alpinestars Track Pants (no knee pucks incl.) Size 32/48 $110

    Or as a set, $200

Both in great shape. Some tank wear on the belly of the jacket...Can hardly tell the pants have ever been worn. I do have some thin (new) Teknic pucks in the garage if wanted...

These zip together, but not suggested for the track use (only 3/4 circumference). Great for the road rides, though.

I'm off the street for a while, so cleaning out the closet.

  4. I know that... But to spell beer, the upside-down word would have to be jeeq, not jeep.

Would actually have to say 'Jəəq' to say 'beer' if flipped. That one just says 'beer'.

Enjoy the funny, and try not to over-analyze ;)

  5. The infamous Brown Santa dropped off a BCG this afternoon. $120 from AIM Surplus.

Basically just need to settle on a barrel and fore-end now. Funny thing: just kind of accumulated all these parts over the last few of months at-or-below pre-panic prices. Well, except for the lower...paid $100 for that.

I think it became somewhat of a sport over the winter to snag things that came available and at good prices.

I'm thinking DD midlength with an A2 FSB at the rifle position/rifle length handguard ala 'dissipator'... I have a carry handle somewhere...would be a good K.I.S.S. setup.

  6. As soon as tonight after 6pm--I just need time to unbolt it from the wall and find new hiding places for the things my Wife doesn't need to know about.

Or any evening this week--depending on time (I have physical therapy a couple evenings, but we can work around that).

  7. Now that I've gotten rid of all of my firearms, I have an unneeded cabinet.

Good shape, has a light scratch in the door. Has been (is) bolted in a closet since new. This is NOT a safe...More like a metal locker (with a shelf!) to secure firearms from children, wives, girlfriends and mischievous pets. May also slow down a thief for a few minutes. Includes 2 keys.

Google it if you need to see one.

If anyone is interested, $50 and you pick it up.

  8. Right now (since the pain has substantially subsided), my only real mobility issue is reaching across my own chest. Backward and lateral reach is good. Front and inward is weak feeling and generally painful. I don't particularly enjoy feeling the joint 'click' each time it flexes through...but it is more mentally discomforting than painful. Other than the pronounced lump and clicking of bones, it feels just like severe muscle strains.

I just need to get back to punching people, Lol...It has been two whole weeks!!

  9. Anyone here ever FUBAR their AC joint? How is riding after recovery?

A couple of weeks ago, I managed to obliterate the ligaments that attach the distal end of my clavicle to the scapula (Grade 3 AC separation). These apparently do not heal, and the efficacy of surgical repair is controversial. Basically I have to train the local muscles to compensate for the lack of integrity in the structure of my shoulder. I now, and always will, have a nifty lump (the end of my clavicle) sticking out of my shoulder. Started PT, and in general I feel like I am re-learning to use my right (strong) arm.

So now, Krav Maga training/teaching, BJJ, Crossfit, fighting, and probably shooting and riding are off the table for 2-? months. I know I’ll be able to get back into everything eventually, with some limitations in mobility, etc.

Well before all of this I had decided to get off of the street for a couple years (After over two decades of having my endorsement)…Not a lot of time/opportunity to get out on rides, and got to the point that I despise commuting in town. Sold my streetbike over the winter and had planned on spending more time at the track this season.

As much fun as it is to tie my shoes, button my shirt, change t-shirts, etc. right now, I do not look forward to squeezing into leathers…

Anyone have this injury and want to commiserate or encourage?
