  1. An email I got once, enititled "People over 30 should be dead": According to today's regulators and bureaucrats, those of us who were kids in the 40's, 50's, 60's, or even maybe the early 70's probably shouldn't have survived. Our baby cribs were covered with bright colored lead-based paint. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets, and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets. (Not to mention the risks we took hitchhiking.) As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags. Riding in the back of a pickup truck on a warm day was always a special treat. We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle. Horrors! We ate cupcakes, bread and butter, and drank soda pop with sugar in it, but we were never overweight because we were always outside playing. We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle, and no one actually died from this. We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then rode down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem. We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the street lights came on. No one was able to reach us all day. No cell phones. Unthinkable! We did not have Playstations, Nintendo 64, X-Boxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, video tape movies, surround sound, personal cell phones, personal computers, or Internet chat rooms. We had friends! We went outside and found them. We played dodge ball, and sometimes, the ball would really hurt. We fell out of trees, got cut and broke bones and teeth, and there were no lawsuits from these accidents. They were accidents. No one was to blame but us. Remember accidents? We had fights and punched each other and got black and blue and learned to get over it. We made up games with sticks and tennis balls and ate worms, and although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes, nor did the worms live inside us forever. We rode bikes or walked to a friend's home and knocked on the door, or rang the bell or just walked in and talked to them. Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Some students weren't as smart as others, so they failed a grade and were held back to repeat the same grade. Horrors! Tests were not adjusted for any reason. Our actions were our own. Consequences were expected. The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke a law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law. Imagine that! This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers and problem solvers and inventors, ever. The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all. And you're one of them! Congratulations!
  2. Unless something changed there is never a gate fee to get into Midohio during PTR-type stuff. I have had several friends drop in in the past, just say you're with the motorcycle stuff and sign the waiver.
  3. What group did you sign up for? Are you riding down or do you have other transportation?
  4. Saturday WAS: 60% T-storms IS: 30% Few Showers Keep going...
  5. Thanks again for hooking me up guys. Despite the weather it was a great day.
  6. I hope that weather pushes back a day. My bike's not coming off the truck at MO if it's raining. I'll be there though because it's paid for.
  7. I wish I could help - I've got a truck but no trailer, receiver but no hitch, trailer light wiring but no brakes. I've always travelled alone and pack the truck pretty good. I might be able to put two bikes in the bed, but it would be a little sketchy with the tiedown angles and I need to get the ramps in there too. Guess it depends how much you value your bike. I also only do one day at a time wherever I go, and if I'm going to Nelson or Beaver I usually crash at my parents' near Cleveland. Riding from Columbus to Midohio wouldn't be bad. A friend of mine rode from Cleveland and back in the pouring rain for his first day. Of course I was his backup plan. Riding from Columbus to Beaver would be a bit ridiculous, but I'm a wuss when it comes to long distance motorcycle riding. I hung out with a guy at Midohio once that rode in from Indy. If you bin it three hours away though... Anyhow, hope we all meet up sometime and maybe we can figure some things out.
  8. Sorry I don't get on here from work during the day. I left Brian a voicemail yesterday morning, he returned my call in the evening and we got everything set up.
  9. I lay a piece of aluminum foil over the headers, let the oil drain all over it, then throw it away when I'm done. Hate burning oil smell.
  10. Thanks Brian. I wish I could help some others get up there, but it doesn't sound like that can happen this weekend. For future events maybe we can figure something out. I just throw my bike in the bed of the truck and go...
  11. I'm in! Left you a voicemail and sent a PM with more of my information, not sure if you got either. Let me know if you need any more information.
  12. At least it inspried me to get my bike done early. Still hopeful...
  13. Based on my limited towing experience, here's a tip: If your truck is only rated for 500lbs tounge load, you can't *really* tow a 7200lb trailer straight down the road on the hitch. At least not without some sort of trick load leveling device that I know nothing about.
  14. Took the $185 gamble on Saturday - thanks for the forum discount. Hopefully the weather is as perfect as last year. The twitter message that popped up on the bottom of my checkout screen seemed like a bad omen though: "rain all day at the most beautiful race track in Ohio" - you guys need to get rid of that. Let's pretend it's always dry and sunny - I'm good at repressing bad memories.
  15. Can you help me find more details online? I'd like to share this with some friends. Curious as to what actual time the demos are, if/when there are signups, and whether they are on track, on the property or in the "neighborhood." Sounds like a good way to get extra help to the track.
  16. It's not luck, it's because I behave. Wasn't always that way...
  17. Your Ohio driver abstract spans the previous two-year period. License Status as of 04/07/2010: VALID ENDORSEMENTS: MOTORCYCLE RESTRICTIONS: NONE ***END OF DRIVER RECORDS*** Haven't even been pulled over in over eight years.
  18. Was almost a perfect tail wind at Dragway 42 pushing my little 600 to 130mph trap speeds. Lots of erroneous time slips though due to leaves and whatnot blowing through the beams...
  19. Chris, We've rode together before at BR and NL, and I continued to chase your old F2 around NL a couple times last year. Casper, Midohio school email says: Follow Us Online at: Assfault Junkies, Motorcycle Addicts, Ohio Riders, Toledo Motorcycle Forums
  20. Heard of the site before, finally came here for Midohio track day information per their email. I have a CBR600 for asphalt and a CR125 for dirt. I guess I also have an XR50 that's done both but it's been neglected in the basement for a few years. Can be found occasionally at Midohio, Nelson, Beaverun, Briarcliff MX and probably Bluegrass if that ever happens. All bikes are #67, the CBR is bright orange, somewhat faded but still hard to miss. Feel free to stop by and say hi, I'm usually by myself.
