  1. I read a follow up article to this, but can't find it right now.  It said he works at a military base in the Indianapolis area and had the 48 bombs, 2 hand guns, 2 black rifles, schematics/plans for a military base, and additional bomb supplies in the car.  It said he was planning on blowing up a "Seal training camp".  They picked him up heading westbound on I 70 west of Columbus.  The article said it was "unclear" where he was coming from when he was stopped.  (May have been a Ranger training camp, I really don't remember)

  2. I took an accident report in 2012 from a young man whose dad bought he and his brother 2012 M50's.  The dad came to the scene and told me he went to Ohio Motorcycle to get a deal on the pair of bikes for his boys.  He said he told the salesman he was paying cash and wanted to know what type of deal they would give him.  He said he was told that the cost would be MSRP plus dealer prep. and not a penny less.  He said he went to Iron Pony and they made him "a hell of a deal" on the pair.

  3. I'll try to keep this simple...

    Columbus, Ohio

Cleveland Ave. and Route 161 (Dublin-Granville Rd) a man in a Nissan Murano heading North turning West turns directly in front of me heading South. I had no choice but to grab my brakes otherwise I would probably be in much worse condition (and in his car). My bike goes down and the guy tries to drive off. A few people corner him into the side of the road.

He admits that he didn't see me and that he turned into the lane. Witnesses nearby couldn't believe what he did and say that he turned right in front of me.

Police show up, say they are going to cite him, guy admits to one officer that he didn't see me and turned right in front of me. My witness leaves, a different officer at the scene ends up taking the report, after everyone leaves and I go to inspect my bike the guy changes his story. Officer doesn't end of citing him.

There is a camera at Cleveland & 161, if anyone knows how I can get a hold of video from Friday, September 20, 2013 around 9:30 pm - 10:30 pm that would be helpful.

Also, there was a lady who called 911 and forced the guy off the road and stuck around for awhile... first off, thank you. You mentioned you were a rider yourself and witnessed the whole thing. You left before any of your information was taken, or maybe between the lack of communication between officers the information was lost? But, I could really use you as a witness. This guy is making up stories at this point and was not cited because the officers magically had no witnesses.

To sum me up at this point, right knee is tendor, back of left leg is 'pinching' along the whole back side, lower back is in spasm as well as front below ribs, and upper back around shoulder blades are a bit sore.

To sum up the bike, road rash on right side (any metal parts that touched the ground have about a 1/4" shaved off of them), wind shield is broken off, right turn signal is gone, right mirror is broken, won't start at this point, and wheels are making weird grinding noises.

To sum up my gear, right knee of over pants have road rash, air back jacket went off, looks like back of helmet may have touched the ground.

... I guess you actually have to face plant into someones car before someone can get a failure to yield citation.

Officers aren't able to cite a driver in a non-contact accident if the officer didn't personally witness it. They could cite the one involved in the accident with failure to control however.  My guess is that if they didn't cite you, they were actually taking your story and the story of the witnesses into account.  The officer that said the driver would be cited was just flat out incorrect.

As far as the video, you will need to put in a public records request with the Columbus Police.  If you call 645-4760 they can direct you to the correct people to speak to.

call CPD (which im going to assume was the department who handled this) demand to speak with the officer whom was on scene 1st that stated he was going to cite the other douche nozzle. If they say they aren't sure tell them to pull the radio traffic of the event (it's all recorded per the FCC) and they can find it that way.

Sure he didn't pull out in front of you on purpose, we call them "traffic accidents" for a reason...just bec it was accidental doesn't mean the guy shouldn't be cited. It's an unknown rule of thumb to pretty much any cop if there's north of $500 worth of damage and if I as a cop have to run code to get to the accident and direct traffic, tone out the squad etc - someone is getting cited - and who but better then the guy who caused it right? Maybe I'm just too logical tho.

Plus, that's just what I'd do bec I'm a persistent fuck.

There is no monetary value that allows officers to run with lights and sirens (I assume that is what you mean by running code).  No officer in Columbus is going to put their ass in a trick bag over a property damage only accident by running with lights and sirens (unless they are just dumb and inexperienced).  We have an EXTREMELY limited EVO (emergency vehicle operation) policy, and property damage just doesn't fall into that policy.  Officers will run with lights and sirens to an accident if there is the potential for life threatening injuries or if someone it trying to hit skip.  Our first priority is to render any aid if possible to the living.  But if it is a fatal accident, you are correct, our obligation is to secure the crime scene by shutting down the intersection and directing traffic.

  4. I blame the guns! The sad thing is that if that were Ohio, the most the 14 year old would veg is juvenile life. Which means IF convicted, he will be locked up until he is 21 in juvenile lock up then be released with a sealed record.

  5. Doesn't the last sentense say Suzuki will repurchase CANCELED DEALERSHIP's motorcycles, ATVs, parts...etc. That tells me these are motorcycle dealerships also. I don't know about you, but I have never seen a Suzuki car dealership sell motorcycles nor motorcycle dealership sell cars. I may be missing something, because this is the first time I have heard about this.

  6. they aren't called accidents, they are called collisions. ;)

an accident is something that cannot be reasonably foreseen or predicted and cannot be avoided. accident implies that it just happened out of the blue and there was nothing you could do to avoid it. when you rear end someone, that is not the case.

a collision is a result of choices made and risks disregarded.

    word choice matters.

Here is the Wikipedia deffinition of an accident:

An accident or mishap is an unforeseen and unplanned event or circumstance, often with lack of intention or necessity. It usually implies a generally negative outcome which may have been avoided or prevented had circumstances leading up to the accident been recognized, and acted upon, prior to its occurrence.

Sums up an ACDA perfectly I think. However, you are correct that we don't take accident reports, we take crash reports.

i would love to belive the blue code of silence does not exist, but things like abner louima, max siefert, anthony acosta, otto zehm (and about a thousand more) can really make a person wonder ya know?

I'm not saying it doesn't exist to some extent, but it certainly isn't the Blue Line Code Of Silence everyone thinks it is. I'm not saying I wouldn't give an officer a break, but I will give just about everyone a break. I hate writing tickets because times are hard enough as it is. Think about someone who is barely scraping by day to day then throw in a $140 ticket on top of it. Officers aren't doing anything other than making life that much more difficult for them. I write tickets when my hands are tied but not if I don't have to.

  7. I bet id it was one of HIS subordinate patrol guys he would nail then to the wall just to show them that he's the big boss dickhead. I know mine would if I was ever so stupid. If I ever get in any type of traffic accident on duty in a Sheriff's cruiser we have a policy to follow.

Clearly, you work for a department like ours. Our IA will hang an officer out to dry in a heartbeat!

    Maybe nothing. Maybe everything.

But for another cop; who knows how video, media, and public perception can play out, to criticize their brother without knowing the whole story - that's inexcusable.

There is nothing else to know. I am not one to jump to conclusions where video is involved because you don't get the whole story. That being said, you have the obligation to maintain assured clear distance ahead, PERIOD. If you run into someone from behind, you are at fault. There are no outside environmental circumstances that relieve you of that responsibility. If it is wet, you are required to give more room/slow down. If it is icy, back off. Foggy, back off. I've had my fair share of ACDA accidents...it happens (not on duty). That is why they are called accidents. If they were on purposes, everyone would go to jail. He should have just taken his lumps, he wouldn't be fired or relieved of duty. The worst that would have happened (probably) was a ticket and maybe a piece of paper in his IA file. Now however, he is looking at serious discipline.

right. when you see your cop buddies in the wrong, you dont call them out on it... you just cover for them.

Common misconception! I do my best not to break traffic laws (except speed...department already know, I had a boat-load of tickets to explain on my background investigation) because I don't want tickets. One of the Central Ohio posts of the Highway Patrol actually has a competition to see who can write the most tickets to LEOs and family members.

  8. No, but a Harley, a leather vest and pretending that riding a certain bike makes you a bad ass helps. Emulating biker soap opera characters doesn't hurt either.

We have a Toro's chapter in Columbus, and a large number of them as well as their associate clubs are sport bike riders.

  9. My brother has a small tankless heater working off of 100amp service. Works great for a shower or any faucet for that matter. It's tiny. About the size of an ammo can but half as thick. Obviously it could not handle the volume for more than spigot at a time. My only concern would be longevity. For something that small it has to be working awfully hard.

I'll be going this route but 220amp model, once the old tank unit dies.

All of the 220 versions that I read about today require 3 40 amp double pull circuits. It seems like a lot of power, and some of the reviews stated that they were still unable to produce a sustained amount of hot water for any length of time without switching to low flow shower heads and faucets. That was my concern and part of the reason form my original question. I don't know if people were just bitching to bitch, or if it is a legitimate concern.

  10. Depends on the model and the incoming water temp.

We have no problem with nice hot showers despite the losses of over 75' of copper pipes running to our master on the opposite corner of the house.

On the other hand late winter water temps do mean that running 2 showers at the same time will reduce the output temp some. During the summer no problem.

Now a small unit or an electric with our winter time water temps is likely to have problems.

    Craig

The 2 showers at the same time shouldn't be a huge issue. My kids both are on the YMCA swim team and both usually shower there after practice. During the summer it shouldn't be an issue at all due to incoming water temp. I just want the peace of mind just in case.

    Craig

I've been told the gas tankless units need to be mounted on an exterior wall for the ignition chamber to have direct and proper ventilation through the wall. Not sure if this is whole truth or not, but may be something to consider if having to possibly relocate some gas/water plumbing or if its even a possibility in your basement.

There are also electronic water valves that you plumb into the main water line(s) that are tethered to a couple of moisture sensors. Once they are wet, they trigger the shutoff valve to close and stops all water flow until they are reset. Some everyday peace of mind, especially when on vacations no matter what type of waterheater you have. I want to get one but haven't pulled the trigger on it yet. Last I remember they were pricey at around $300 and up, but way cheaper than a flooded basement.

The contractor did tell me that they need to be on an outside wall. Again, this shouldn't be an issue because it is going to go in the unfinished laundry area.

  11. I'm not the authority on home improvement but is your old water heater bad or are you buying this for the savings? The reason I ask is the initial cost of the tankless heater may outweigh any savings vs a conventional water heater. I think I calculated it out a long time ago and you would need years to start reeping efficiency of the tankless unit. Sorry for not answering you question but I am interested to see what other people have to say as well.

Actually, our existing water heater is about 1/2 way through its life cycle. However, we are finishing our basement and it seems like the tankless SHOULD be less likely to cause issues like a bursting tank. I know there are still the pipe issues, but I would have that with a tanked unit also.

We got a natural gas whole house tankless a few years ago to replace the undersized water heater that had been installed in the house.

    The good:

    1) You always have hot water. No problem being the second or third person to take a shower :D

    2) They are small and take up much less room in the utility room. Ours is also a laundry room and the tank water heater made it difficult to move in the room.

    3) Efficiency - no keeping water hot when not in use.

    The bad:

    1) expensive

    2) may require and upgraded gas line due to the higher power burner

    3) When using water intermittently or at low volumes (e.g. washing dishes) there tends to be cold periods as the heater does not react instantly to changes in flow.

My understanding is that electric units are not really suitable for a whole house application. More point of use. They cant provide enough flow to run more than a single high efficiency shower head. The big gas units can run a couple showers or fill a tub.

We did find that the faucet on our oversize whirlpool tub would fill faster than the heater could handle. Throttling the flow down some allows us to easily fill the tub.

We have had this for about 7 years now so it looks like there are alot more choices now than there were then.

If you are just looking for efficiency also look at condensing water heaters. These are considerably more efficient than traditional water heaters. And based on google there are even tankless condensing water heaters that should be extremely efficient. Still payback will be years based on the current gas prices.

    Craig

My biggest concern is having enough water to run 2 showers (from time to time) simultaneously with the dishwasher or washing machine running. I work nights and my pre-teen daughter tends to take 20 minute showers when I'm not home. It wouldn't be an issue if she was the last to shower at night, but my boys go after her, so they get the shaft. Also, it would be nice for guests also.

  12. Does anyone here have a tankless water heater? If so, what do you have? What do you like/dislike? Gas or electric?

We are looking at putting one in, and I have read good and bad reviews for all brands and sizes. So, I was hoping someone would have some good input.

    Thanks.

  13. that's not what the ACLU told me... :D

Then they are misinforming you. Your eyes can not commit a trespass. If you are legally in the spot (meaning in a public place), you are not doing anything illegal looking into a vehicle on a public street. The same applies to someone standing on your sidewalk and looking into your window at your naked spouse. While you are in a private place, you have your windows open for anyone to view. As long as they are on public property, they can stare all they want. It is your responsibility to close your curtain to gain privacy. They are legally in the spot they are in by being on the sidewalk. Now, if they walk onto your lawn, that is a different story.

  14. yup, they even wrote an ammendment to the constitution about it. (check #4). If the cop says he can't see in your window, then you say, "I do not consent to any searches, Officer." (Barring, of course, you haven't given him or her any probable doubt about the issue.)

You have zero expectation of privacy in your vehicle on a public roadway.
