  1. What do you consider donated? I was originally planning on doing this. My cousin gave me a '79 CX500, and my wife bought a lot of parts for Christmas. If this still meets the criteria, I may be able to meet the deadline. If not, I will continue with my build for personal satisfaction. Maybe I can still get it done and ride it just to check out the show. Is there a location yet?

Edit: sorry missed "location to be determined. "

  2. If it can be tied (however loosely) back to drug "enforcement", that means that a whole host of grants are now on the table to apply for and pick from. Suddenly that 2M of free money gets upped to 2.5M or possibly even higher.

And seriously, all 2M goes to SWAT? According to the 2010 annual report, that went towards the following:

    • Garmin Nuvi 465T/1690 GPS units for Patrol supervisors

    • Window tint meters

    • Portable breath testers

    • Cannondale Police Enforcement Bikes

    • Alerte Trailblazer III police bike light and siren system

    • Baker Bat Shield (ballistic shield)

    • Saddles and harnesses

    • Personnel database

    • Adult/child and infant CPR mannequins

    • Microfilm reader

    • Flight helmets

    • Underwater communication system

    • Child identification fingerprint kits

Unless SWAT traded in their APC's for up-armored Cannondale's, I think this is going to other divisions.

ALL drug seizure money goes to SWAT. (SWAT does include K-9)

  3. Really? That almost 2 million the CPD seized last year could have bought a lot of units. Google has the civilian handheld OMG models at about 8K, I'm guesstimating that the LEO models are at least 15. But hey, I suppose window tint meters, new ballistic shields, and an underwater comm system are stuff that you have to have when you're spending other people's seized cash.

Drug seizure money goto for SWAT toys only.

  4. 2hours? If he had a gun he could of shot them way before he even got close with crow bar or slim Jim.

Speed kills officers. It has happened on more than one occasion that a suspect has hid in a car and waited for officers to let their guard down then shoot them as the walk to the car. As far as the trunk button, my trunk doesn't open if the key isn't in the on position, and the trunk needs to be checked.

There are quite a few models of hand-held FLIR units. I agree that using it from a chopper position would not yield enough resolution to see the guy, but I have to imagine using it from much closer and away from the main heat sources (as you can) would yield something better. If they can afford APC's, I'm sure they can pony up the cash for a few units.

Columbus PD is the 8th largest department in the country (per our training) (I found other numbers), and we are one of the best trained and equiped departments but we don't have the money for equipment like that.

  5. FLIR can't see that?

No. Have you watched any shows like wildest police videos and seen FLIR shots? They pick up the engine and break heat but not occupant heat. The FLIR is very limited when it comes to seeing inside/under things. Heat signitures get lost in open air under trees. Through steel is not going to happen.

  6. What about shining a light into the windshield?

Tactically you wouldn't want to be in front of the vehicle where they can see your every move. If they did shine a light from the front, they then illuminate all of the officers to the rear for the bad guy and make it difficult for the officers to see any movement that may be happening in the vehicle.

Officers put that spot light on vehicle occupants for a reason. It is to prevent/hamper vehicle occupants from viewing their movements. Walking up on a vehicle is a regular traffic stop is very dangerous to begin with. Add in limo tint and a wanted felon who doesn't want to go to prison, and it can turn into a disaster in a real hurry. They did the correct thing by trying to negotiate him out first. It just so happened that he exited his vehicle before they got there.

  7. The city of Parma has informed me that the 1/2 inch raise in the sidewalk in front of my house, and the deterioration of my driveway apron means I have to pay thousands of dollars to have both replaced.

Having read the parma codified ordinances, by the letter of the law, I am likely in violation of a couple vague sections, namely:

"(e) All driveway aprons shall be kept in a proper state of repair, free of holes, surface deterioration or cracks which cause sections to become loose or otherwise hazardous. All repairs or replacements of driveway aprons shall be of concrete."

But I am willing to argue that the surface deterioration and cracks in my driveway are not causing sections to become loose or otherwise hazardous.

Anyway, I have to pay $50 to contest the claim, and I want to go in with more ammunition than just pictures of my driveway, and arguments that I don't violate the code.

I'm thinking that pictures of other violations throughout the city that are going un-addressed would help my cause. Specifically, I want to photograph the driveways of Parma city officials, and show that THEY are not in compliance either.

Without an old-fashion phone book, what's the best way to get this inspector's home address? I'd like to snap some pics of the mayor's driveway, the city engineer, etc. I already have home addresses for about half of city counsel.

    http://fiscalofficer.cuyahogacounty.us/en-US/REPI.aspx

This is the web site for the Cuyahoga County Auditor. The link is to the property search page. If theirs works like Franklin Co., all you need to do is type in the name of the person you are looking for and a picture of their property will pop up along with all of the property information. All public information.

    Good luck!

  8. This is the reason I have not gotten my Mustang tinted yet. I don't need to add a reason to get pulled over. I even have a convertible, and only drive in the summer usually with the windows down.

The fact of the matter is that there are going to be officers that will be pricks and write the ticket no matter what. I personally don't agree with that. There are hard working people flat out can't afford to have 25% or more of their weekly pay check taken from a traffic ticket and or court costs. The law is still the law, and officers are still within the scope of their duty and have the legal right to write that ticket. I just don't agree with it personally. If I can keep the roads safe with a warning, I will do it when ever possible.

  9. The rear can be tinted as dark as you want it, the front 2 windows are all that matter - they must let 50% of light thru. I have 2 cars with 15% tint all around and before I moved to Westerville from Canton it was never an issue. Only got stopped once and it was just a warning. Since I moved here I have been pulled over twice in the last 2 months. Both times I was driving a 2003 grand am. Other ride is a brand new Optima SX which I drive much more frequently and I have never been stopped in it. I think 2 factors really play into whether or not LEO's will fuck with you over your tint: where you live and what kind of car it is. If it is a newer, nicer car that isn't an Escalade or something else that makes you look like a drug dealer when you tint the windows, I think you're less likely to be pulled over. Also, if you live in a town where the police actually do police work (i.e. not Westerville, Dublin, etc) you are less likely to be pulled over. Just my 2 cents

If the officer is proactive, window tint is the perfect tool to get a stop. It can give you a reason to begin an interaction that could lead to more. As a general rule, I don't write traffic tickets unless I need to. If there is more than a traffic infraction, I will call for a tint meter and write it as my PC for the stop. If not, you go on your merry way. However, I have a partner on Wednesday and Thursday who will write it almost every time. He views it as an officer safety issue (which it is). He issues the ticket and tells them that if they go to a professional to have it removed, then take the receipt to court, they will almost always dismiss the charge.

  10. Where I work, dope slingers and people with illegal guns tend to have darker than legal tint. We hammer the shit out of dark tint. Ohio allows no less than 50% light transmissionand it is primary offense. The last I checked, it was a $120ish fine in Franklin Co. However, one of our freeway guys told me that the fines are now in the $160 range.

  11. So, a sign inside the car saying that audio is being recorded keeps me in compliance with wiretap laws.

Should be above and beyond. I might be looking at this incorrectly, but they should have no expectation of privacy from you in your vehicle to begin with. Look at it like the "Bait Car" our Auto Squad uses. Full audio and video inside. They park it and wait for someone to take it, then all recordings are used against them in court. The bad guys don't know it is there, and we have no idea who is going to take it in order for us to get a warrant to "conduct a wire tap". The great part is that the car even makes the arrest for them. It locks the door "trapping" them inside, then they sit and wait for the officers to let them out.

  12. I find it interesting as this very same thing happened to my truck - I physically witnessed a tech take off in my truck on an after-repair "test drive" - as soon as he was out of the lot and on the street, he smashed the pedal and ran the piss out of it down the street......while he was gone, I went inside and asked the service manager if this behavior was company protocol.......he got very pissed it happened in general, but worse yet that I saw it happen. I explained that I didn't want anyone to lose their job, just that he be cautious when driving customer's vehicles as they are not his to damage or destroy -- aparently the tech was a new-hire, and as the service manager walked him over to me to apologize - I accepted, shook their hands and signed my bill to leave.......I don't know if he still works there or not as it's been several years ago.........but I'm not shy - it was at Joseph Airport Toyota in Vandalia:D

Now mind you, this is the ONLY episode I've ever had with this dealer in almost 20 years dealing with them.......for the record, they've always been very professional and do great work imo

Joseph's Toyota is a great place. They were a customer of mine when I was in automotive paint sales. They had great techs working there!

  13. Would that even matter in this case? Do you have an expectation of privacy in someone's vehicle? Wouldn't being in the vehicle driving down the road put you in public?

I wouldn't think it would matter at all. But even if it did, the owner still knew the recording was taking place.

  14. Yes. This protects me when I post videos of what people in the car say - no wiretap violation of the space is posted as subject to audio recording. People outside the car are in public anyway so it doens't matter.

The only requirement for "wire tapping" in Ohio is that one of the parties know that the recording is taking place.

  15. Where's the best place to get oxygen and acetylene in the north columbus area? I need to get a full setup from scratch - tanks, hoses etc. And I need the gas too, so I don't think I can get it all from Lowes etc. (Thie don't have the gas, just empty tanks?)

I have never personally dealt with them, but Central Ohio Welding Supply Co. is on E. Spring St. It is at Spring/Neilston. I looked at their website and it says they supply to businesses as well as the hobbiest.

  16. Cheap starter 2pc for someone looking to get into track days. Exactly the reason I bought it for. Only selling since I bought an A* suit from RD on clearance.

    $100 shipped

*Size 48 (i think, will double check). I'm 5'9, 230lbs and it fit with a little room to spare

*Not perfect, has some light rashing on the jacket and I think the pants have a little rash too. I will get pics of the actual suit tonight when I get home but here is what one looks like in the same color

    IMG_1821.jpg

here is the best pic I could find of me wearing just the jacket and relative size

    109.jpg

    Sold it yet?

  17. Yeah' date=' I've seen that before. Pretty gross, but inexplicably intriguing. I always find myself just staring at the images, with my nose about 5 inches from the display. Maybe I'm trying to find an eyeball, or something. It's just fascinatingly gooey.

Maybe I'm just a little fucked up, too. :dunno:[/quote']

Are you sure you aren't a cop?
