Qft. I don't want a new liner. Maybe I'll take this out, assess the damage, sand and spray a little rustoleum, then put it back in. the paint already looks like shit, because they drenched the front end with clear coat. I had to scrape it off the windshield, lmao!

So, I bought a 98 Dodge Ram. It's not perfect, definitely has a few bumps and rattles, but it runs. Which is more than I can say about the Prelude. Anywho, this is my first truck. And there are a few peculiarities. Such as the shift lever, which I keep grabbing to turn the lights on... But my real reason for posting is the bed liner. it's some el cheapo i assume. Says "BODYGARD" (sic). idk if it was made for the truck, or the particular year, or not, but it seems to fit rather well. However, it blows up on the highway. The sides are held in under the lips of the bed 'walls.' So just the rear bows up. It gets as high as my gate, which worries me. I tossed a couple weights back there to hold it down, so we'll see tomorrow. What could i use to permanently hold it down? RTV? Bolt through it into the truck? Rust would worry me.

Centerville here. So long as you don't bring a pink moped, you're cool.

After my radio was stolen twice I left a little fuck you note in the dash. then i moved...

Well, two days of banging, and that basket is stuck... The spline bearing is supposed to slide out, but it won't budge at all. I also tried loosening up the oil pump from underneath, to get the chain off the sprocket underneath the basket. Not enough play to do that either. I'm kind of stuck. I think the material inbetween those teeth is enough to push up on the main gear so that it wedges the bearing in there..? I got some of it out by carefully hammering punches, awls and small flatheads until I broke about five screwdrivers. I need some inspiration. And a car.

on a car? your back yard. on a bike? change your mind.

i will try this. gotta find a strong magnet. and i do have to take the oil pan off anyway. it's probably filled with metal...
-
yep. 159 for plates, fibers and springs sound reasonable? hey nate. actually, you may have some good advice for getting that basket out. the guy at middletown cycle said they use a 5 or 6 mm bolt to go into the holes in the spline bearing, and they wiggle the bearing out. that gives room to pull the chain off from behind...? sound like anything you've done before? any tips? first i have to get all that material out from between those gears. well, it would actually all fall out if i got that bearing out, but we'll see.

Well, today sucked. The best part was relieving anger by splitting wood with my brother. Anywho, last night, the clutch felt funny. The bike didn't grab up well when I was starting moving. I wouldn't have explained it like that then, but it makes sense now. Plates were worn. And this morning, literally, a block away from work, I go to accelerate from an intersection, and "Kerclunk, clack." That was an ugly stall. Oh right, it doesn't have juice to start anyway, because I drained the battery last night... (Left my grip heaters on.) Wheeled it over to the side of the road, and all the while rolling, there was a nice click click noise. Clutch lever had no tension, but the armature itself, going into the side of the engine would only move past a certain point. Even with the spring off, and cable disconnected. My brother eventually came to pick me up, and brought me and the bike to my dad's, where all the tools are. We got the cover off, and upon immediate inspection saw a good amount of metal inbetween the cranking gear(?), and the clutch drive gear. It looked shinier, and softer like aluminum. Where those teeth are hardened steel for sure, so they may still be in good shape. Got the plates out, or most of them at least. A couple snapped or shattered or whatever, and fell into the oil pan. they were well under the "limit". Pic: Springs. They were 47 mm. Spec is 50mm: Then, we saw where the metal caught in the gears came from: The clutch basket! A tooth of the basked just broke off. It looks like it was broke, not sheared. I didn't think to take a pic of it without the plates in, but here is the aluminum in the gears: I've tried to be nice to the bike, but at 32k miles, and 25k of them being drag raced by a douchenozzle, this should be expected. So, a clutch basket is on order from ebay. And Middletown Cycle has plates, springs, a cover gasket, and a new spline gear just in case, all in an invoice for me to assumably pay for tomorrow. 3-5 days for all of it... My car is still down with a crank bearing too. So, I'm riding one of my dad's bikes. A sportster. With Screamin Eagle pipes... Not my style at all. I mean, it's ok for what it is. But, it's not even comfy. Pseudo ape hangers hurt my wrists, and my butt feels like it just got off one of those tummy shaker exercise machines. Cliffnotes: Broken clutch plates Tooth broke off basket, and squished all up in the drive gears Waiting for parts Car is broke, too. Compromising. I need a beer.

I want a wankel! uh. hrm... I mean... Maybe it'll be easier to get a triple. I wanted one after the 650, but due to noone ever wanting to sell them, I got my powerwheel.

nice. my dad stores like 8 bikes over winter for riders at his church. i do have a tender though. should i just put it on, just in case, once a week or something? if lithium didn't do so crappy in the cold, i'd consider one of the fancy newfangled nerdology batteries.
-
nuts. definitely pretty. i'm confused by the adjustable lever though.
-
And, this is why I don't carry. Plus, not being allowed to at school, or AK... But I admit that I have road rage. On the bike, that usually ends up with me pinning it and dipping out. But, I've had a confrontation or two, where I was more angry than my hindsight tells me I should have been.

Oh, I'm not doing -20. but I do have warm gear, and heated grips now. Which the grips rock. Rode home last night in the rain, and was comfortable! My knees got a little chilly, but I didn't have on my warm pants. Funny thing is, the past two years, I brought the bike into the house on freezing nights, telling ever fiance I had to! I could try to get away with it here, but it would be a pain in the ass.

i don't need a storage, i just don't want to store it! lol! when it gets too cold, i'll bring it over to my dad's garage. but until then, i was just making sure it wouldn't crack the engine block from the hot cold transition or whatever. i do have antifreeze, 50/50 i believe. so, yay. And, no ninjadoc, not lucky, just insane. my car is still out of commission so i'm preparing for hell...
-
Ok, out of the gutter now... We moved, and I don't have room to bring the bike in at night anymore. Eventually, I'll have to store it at my dad's. I can ride into the 30s in the morning and night but I don't know when it's unsafe to let the bike sit in freezing temperatures. So how deep into freezing can it sit in the parking lot?

lbts glws. it's really clean. want to sell the hvmp bar ends separately?
-
can you visually inspect the length of your cables? if it looks all in the right spot, i'd guess one of the ends popped off.

i've found all sorts of flyers under my passenger seat strap at school.. but they're also usually under every other car's wipers as well. wonder what it means.

you just have to sign into your youtube account. or gmail if it's linked. did you see shep's apology video?

I was on the highway once, and had passed a cop, so when I saw the harley guy going down the opposite direction, I did the head pat thing to warn him. but he thought I was pointing to my helmet, because he wasn't wearing one, and he flicked me off. jackass. Hope he got a ticket. -
I've seen things made for it, but I'd just jerry rig something involving a pedestal fan and clothes hangers. el cheapo.

Mind if I ask why the rush? Seems awfully disconcerting to a potential buyer.

Lmao true story. It auto updates with my facebook. Pretty soon it'll be me transporting a bale of straw in the passengers side of a car...
