  1. New Ohio Concealed Carry law has passed in the Ohio House last week and moved to Senate. It will, among other things, change the reciprocity agreement system and end up making an Ohio Permit valid in both Pennsylvania & Georgia, among others. Decision should be made in next few weeks.
  2. Count me in. I could do fri, sat, or sunday. I would prefer a one day class but could do a two day (I live 2 hours away)
  3. So its the fastback coupe with removable targa roof panels? Black leather interior?
  4. If it is hemorrhoids it has sure worked for me to totally avoid alcohol and nsaids (advil, aleve, etc.) which can thin the blood and make bleeding worse. Most people I know who have had surgery wouldn't do it again as it's painful and they often return anyway.
  5. Motor mount bolt broke off in my daughter's Buell Blast. Pulled the head so I could get the broken bolt out. I didn't get to finish it up until the next week. Put the head back on and buttoned her all up and tried to start it. The engine was seized - very weird. I finally pulled the plug and looked in the cylinder but couldn't see the top of the piston. There was some weird looking thing in there...looked just like... the shop rag I stuffed in the top of the cylinder to keep the dirt out the week before! Doh!
  6. I have my insurance with Progressive. Two years ago when I had my encounter with the deer wanting to ride piggyback with me, they did not exchange words about my gear. They said to make a list of the gear I was wearing with current prices and they cut me a check for all of it & let me keep the old. I ended up with a new helmet, mesh jacket, gloves & rainsuit and continue to use the helmet & gloves as spares. My mesh jacket would have still been usable but the EMT's got a little crazy with the scissors!
  7. You'll get the infamous Miata 60 mph wobble if you don't get a good balance. Join Miata.net and you should be able to find a good shop. There is also an Ohio Miata Owners facebook group that can give you a lot of info. Miata people are a lot like bike people when it comes to lending help
  8. The assault weapon ban will be added as an amendment to the bill later as it will probably make it easier to pass that way. It's just a ploy.
  9. Love my FroggToggs. They breathe so you don't end up wet from sweat instead of rain. Just keep your leg away from your hot pipes (or use their iron on heat guard).
  10. Excellent fathering 2talltim. Did the same thing with our 2 daughters who got in a fist fight on the school bus many years ago. Made them go straight to the bus driver and apologize face to face. They NEVER got in trouble again.

Beware of online purchase of glasses, especially with progressive lenses!!! There are certain measurements that need to be taken when fitting progressive lenses. You need a split PD and seg heights measured to within 0.5 mm. There is no way to do this without having these measurements taken with the frame you want actually sitting on your face. Also, many online optical stores use Chinese sourced labs which do not use lenses that meet U.S. impact resistance standards. Buyer beware!

I've worn bifocals for 15 years and been an optometrist for over 30 years. Your best choice visually is progressive lenses. They are more expensive by approximately $100 but will give you more natural uninterrupted vision once you learn to use them. There are different quality levels and a "cheap" lens is definitely inferior in visual quality to one of the better lenses, such as a "Varilux Physio". If you ever ride without a faceshield, then by all means get a polycarbonate lens, which is essentially "shatterproof" should a stray rock come at you at 60 mph. Polarized sun lenses are not recommended for riding, as they will reduce the "sheen" given off by an oil spill on the road, making it more difficult to pick out those slippery areas you need to avoid. A transitions lens works well for varying light conditions but may not get quite dark enough under certain conditions, especially facing the late day sun.
  13. If you are looking for the best cash (no trade) price on a Harley, drive 2 hours east on US 35 and stop by BAXTER'S HD in Gallipolis. I have bought 4 new bikes from them in the past 12 years. Even in the heyday of HD sales they sold at list price with no set-up fees. My 2011 StreetGlide I purchased at $2000 off MSRP at the beginning of the model year. It was totaled in a deer collision and I purchased a leftover end of the model year 2011 at $3000 off MSRP. They are a rural small town dealer that doesn't have a sales manager & salesmen. You work with the gals at the parts/service desk & Benny the owner. Great people that always shout out your name when you walk in the door. I know this sounds like an advertisement but THEY are the reason I ride a Harley. The local Kawasaki and Honda dealers act like you're a bother to them, if they even acknowledge that you walked in the door. No personal or monetary interest in the dealership but as a small businessman myself, I like to give kudos to someone that still runs a business the way it should be run. They just opened a new larger dealership building last month (pushed by HD )and I hope that hasn't affected their pricing structure. I'd at least give them a call.
  14. My primary interest in high school was automobiles. I was in college prep but the guys in the auto mechanics tech program would bring their cars to me to tune (this was in the early seventies when emissions controls were new & absolutely ruined the performance of cars.) Everyone was always saying, "Why don't you become a mechanical engineer since you love cars so much?" My reason was I didn't want to ruin my passion by making it my job. I knew that VERY FEW jobs are really something enjoyable, but are a means to an end. I decided I wanted to do something that would allow me to make enough money to enjoy my hobby (cars, then later motorcycles) and still be a job that I at least wouldn't hate to do the rest of my life. You will find out that there is NO job that ends up being what you think it is and no matter what, you'll have good and bad days. So, what did I decide to become? An optometrist! In no way related to cars/bikes but a career wih good hours, good working conditions and good pay. I've been successfully self employed for 30 years, raised a family, and played with a number of cool bikes & cars over the past 30+ years.
