  1. I think this is why they(meaning both parties) refuse to even start negotiating on the fiscal cliff. They will not reach an agreement before the end of the year. We'll go "over the cliff" which really means jack shit for most of us until tax time for 2013. That means they have all year to come up with a bill that brings us back up from the cliff jump by making the tax breaks that disappear at the first of the year retroactive and go back to where they are now, and institutes a new AWB.

I'm pretty sure that if the fiscal cliff happens, it'll affect paycheck withholding immediately, so they don't really have all year. Also payroll taxes, estate taxes and the rest go into immediate effect.

Glad Congress just got a pay raise, though. :nono:

  2. And the numbers become even more dramatic when you figure in that only a small percentage of police and military would be willing to turn their weapons towards their own people. Most of us (police, military) are going to be shooting the same direction as anybody else, if it came to that.

  3. "False is the idea of utility that sacrifices a thousand real advantages for one imaginary or trifling inconvenience; that would take fire from men because it burns, and water because one may drown in it; ...The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm those only who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Can it be supposed that those who have the courage to violate the most sacred laws of humanity, the most important of the code, will respect the less important and arbitrary ones, which can be violated with ease and impunity, and which, if strictly obeyed, would put an end to personal liberty -- so dear to men, ...and subject innocent persons to all the vexations that the guilty alone ought to suffer? Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. They ought to be designated as laws not preventive but fearful of crimes, produced by the tumultuous impression of a few isolated facts, and not by thoughtful consideration of the inconveniences and advantages of a universal decree."

--CESARE BECCARIA, On Crime and Punishment, p.145 (1819) originally published in 1764

  4. Just so happens that's exactly the kind of guy I bought it from!

I've considered taking off the ramp gate for fuel economy, but never got around to trying it. That's one reason I haven't fixed the one hinge yet, in case whoever gets it wants to just ditch it altogether.

The trailer weighs 760lbs empty, if I remember right. And you're right, it hasn't flinched at any sort of weight I've thrown at it.
