  1. Did the dog leave its yard?

Our only clue is this >> Police said an officer was chased by a vicious dog after the pursuit went through a family's yard.

I can see this as the owner being charged with allowing his dog to interfere with official police business even if it was in his own backyard. Not that it would be right.

  2. I always thought one of the best ways to get revenge on someone was to give their kids something that makes lots of noise.

I once lived in an apartment building with three floors and a concrete walkway the length of the building for entry to each unit. People would turn their kids loose on their "big wheels" and nothing but the sound of plastic wheels running up and down the walkway could be heard all day long and often late into the evening. What a nightmare.

  3. If it was shot in the yard that's one thing, if it left the yard I'd call it fair game.

We don't know where the dog came from or where the police were. It could have happened on the street or in someone's front yard.

    >> Police said an officer was chased by a vicious dog after the pursuit went through a family's yard.

I was wondering about if it was in my own backyard.....or yours.

  4. I wonder, if there were four dogs, all large, in a fenced yard, and the cops jumped the fence and promptly had large pieces of meat removed from their bodies, how would the media make this look? Would they blame the owner?

    I'm thinking they would.

  5. Maybe one day I will be lucky enough to visit India. I would prefer to travel into the countryside and see how everyday life is for the people who live there. I would eat where the locals eat and try to enjoy the foods people cook in their homes. And with a twinkle in her eye, the right Indian woman could easily steal my heart.

  6. FZ8 would be PERFECT. And yes the FZ8 is available here in the states. ...I obviously forgot about the FZ8.

I stopped at Yamaha in Hebron on the way home yesterday. I sat on an FZ8 and it fit me just fine. It's the Fizzer 8 that I would be more interested in. It has a bikini faring. I wonder if anyone here has seen one in Canada. I think they came out in 2010.

    .

  7. The Yamaha FZ8 is here. It's a naked bike. Below is a picture of the Fazer 8, the same bike with some faring. It's not yet sold in this country but I have a funny feeling we may see it on our shores sooner or later.

    Opinions?

  8. This is the English version of a Russian publication. I don't know anything about it just that this is what is being said about us over there. There are some other interesting links on the right side of the page.

    Happy reading!!

Here is a small quote from that site.

    >> "He (Obama) is a Communist without question promoting the Communist Manifesto without calling it so. How shrewd he is in America. His cult of personality mesmerizes those who cannot go beyond their ignorance. They will continue to follow him like those fools who still praise Lenin and Stalin in Russia. Obama's fools and Stalin's fools share the same drink of illusion.

...Soros and his ownership of the company that counts the US votes in Spain helped put their puppet in power in the White House. According to the Huffington Post, residents in all 50 states have filed petitions to secede from the Unites States. We'll say that these Americans are hostages to the Communists in power. How long will their government reign tyranny upon them?

President Vladimir Putin could never have imagined anyone so ignorant or so willing to destroy their people like Obama much less seeing millions vote for someone like Obama."

What is clear to the rest of the world cannot be seen by our own people.

  9. V-4 engines are elegant engineering designs.

Compared to I-4 they can be narrower.

Compared to V-2 they can rev higher and produce higher peak power.

So why are you stuck on V4. ..... The differences between motors is usually one of the smaller differences in bikes.

Right there are a couple of reasons I find them interesting. I'm not stuck on them but I'm not ruling them out either. They seem to offer a good middle ground between the V-Twins and I-4's.

I'm in research mode and still learning the pros and cons of different engines. I was under the impression that the engine was one of the major differences in bikes.

See? I still have a lot to learn.

SV650, Gladius, Ninja 650, Street Triple, Monster 696, FZ6r GSX650R. Lots of choices in this range.

I checked out the Gladius before I bought the bike I have now. I checked out the Ninja 650 a couple months ago. I'm wanting to check out an SV 650. And the Pokemon has me checking out the FZ6r.

I'm enjoying this adventure in learning. I don't have to make any decisions before I'm ready to buy. All of the suggestions I've received have helped to narrow the selection process for me. I'm reading up on these bikes as I get time and I'm getting a much better feel for what is what.

Thanks to everyone for your input.

  10. The C14 is one bad ass hyper sport touring machine, only a good option for very experienced riders in most situations and circumstances.
C14...big heavy- powerful machine that I would not recommend for a somewhat new rider.
...take a look at the 1st Gen Concourse. Not as big and bad as the C14, but a solid touring rig.

    Concours might be good

A Concours is the way to go...nice an smooth. It's a great bike.

I will certainly consider this info for my 3rd bike. Hopefully I will be ready for a bike this size in a few more years. I'll go ahead and read up on the 1st generation Concours though, just for fun.

It is a nice looking bike. I haven't talked to anyone that doesn't like it.

  11. The VFR is THE sport-touring bike...

I've been reading up on the VFR 800. You are right. It was the mid-sized sport touring bike that set the standard for the others, I suppose.

The one I saw had handlebars that were pretty low as compared to the ST 1300, Connie 14, FJR. I don't know what it was like fresh out of the box since it was used.

I suppose I could get handlebar risers and lowered foot pegs to make it sit closer to what I want. I'm still learning these things.

Hear that Doc? I'm reading about the VFR. Doc? Are you listening? :D

I'll also read about all the other bikes that have been suggested to me. You guys are full of great information. Coming here is like opening an encylopedia on motorcycles. I really appreciate everyone's input.

The bike search conversation should probably go back over here >> http://www.ohioriders.net/showthread.php?t=99911&page=5

I have found no sweeter engine than the 675cc triple in my Triumph Daytona...

I sit here and open the 2012 Triumph Motorcycle brochure that I picked up from Motohio last week. Under the heading of SUPERSPORTS is the Daytona 675 and the Daytona 675R.

I like the look of those bikes. It's the forward leaning posture as shown in the photo above that I would find uncomfortable after an hour in the saddle.

...also available in the Street Triple, which matches your preference for upright ergonomics.

Ahhh yes! And much easier on my arms. I just wish that there were some fairing to keep the wind off. I suppose I got a little spoiled in that my current bike offers a more upright riding position, and fairing to boot.

  13. ...mine is 16F and 44R, which is a 1:2.75 ratio. So there really isn't a perfect changing of the front sprocket up or down one or two teeth that could possibly result in an exact match. But something close could be found.

So yes, on my sprockets if I wanted to go down one tooth in the front, then 3 teeth up in the back instead would be close. It would be slightly more "than one in the front", or basically 1.09 tooth in the front change. 10% more. Confusing enough?

Let's see. 44 / 16 = 2.75 One tooth lost on the front would be equal to 2.75 teeth added to the rear.

16 / 44 = 0.3636... One tooth added to the rear would be equal to 0.3636... teeth lost on the front.

Three teeth added to the rear would equal...

    3 X 0.3636... = 1.0909... teeth lost on the front.

I just might have a handle on it. :)

  14. A V4 is a little more expensive to build than an in-line four, and price point is typically a concern with mid-size motorcycles. Not enough buyers are willing to pay more for a V4 over an inline 4 in that category. The VFR750 and VFR800 were the last ones, but they were expensive compared to other bikes of the same size. Honda eventually relented and repositioned that model as a larger bike.

I was suspecting manufacturing costs to be a major factor in why we don't see V4's in smaller motorcycles.

Given your criteria, Jack, I'm not sure you want a V4 anyway.

Well, I'm not wanting one in the sizes that are currently being offered. I just couldn't help but wonder if they were available in the size of bike I feel would be the most logical for me to consider next. I was seeing the V4 as a happy medium between a twin and an inline 4, more torque than one, in the bottom end, and more horsepower than the other, in the top end, for an equal number of cc's.

    And then, there's the Triple...

I'm all up for advice and guidance. I'm still trying to discover what is available out there that I'll be happy with, for the money I'll be willing to spend.

  15. Vfr - it can do everything except off roading

I stopped at John Hinderer Honda, on the way home from work, just for you, Doc. I sat on one of those Viffers, a 1200 it was. That's a lot of motorcycle for a new rider like me. I don't think it's my style with the leaning forward on the arms, plus it was a little tall and would have to be lowered for me to get both feet flat on the floor.

...come to think about it Yamaha started making vmax again, but that's a 1200.

They had a used Vmax. I sat on it just for fun. It looked like a speeding ticket waiting to happen. A bike like that would surely shorten my life.

Suzuki had the madura and honda had the saber, interceptor...

They also had a used interceptor, an '09 I believe, for around $8k. It's 800cc V4 would be right up my alley in a Sport Touring style of bike. It sat like the VFR and I wouldn't be comfortable on it for long.

I'll read up on the Magna and the Royal Star, and a Triple is still in the running. I was actually surprised to discover the Triumph Sprint is a triple. I was expecting it to be a four banger.

A VFR 800? I'm assuming it sits like the 1200. I'd like to cross paths with one just to check it out.

    Ducati? Aprilia? I think we're talking $$$ I don't have.
