  1. As soon as I got to the part about the Bible, it was obvious this lady is probably a little nuts herself. If she thinks handcuffing her kid to a chair with a Bible is going to fix him, then she isn't fit to be a fucking parent.

If you can't control your kid, regardless of whether or not he is a dumbass, then take him to a boot camp or get some other external help. Seems like she did this out of despair, but that is no way to be a parent. And sure I'm only 22 don't know what it's like to be a parent blah blah blah, but this is my view. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out.

How do you control your kid these days? You can't spank them and you can't confine them. She took things away (grounded him) and he still found ways to get "toys".

  2. I don't think juvi has solitary. I could be wrong, but I can't imagine they're throwing kids in oz for shoplifting. And even hardened criminals who get sent to solitary confinement don't get handcuffed to their beds at night. Only Sarah Connor gets that treatment.

Solitary confinement is a common punishment in juvenile facilities in the USA. A national study of the use of isolation calculated that in 1992 there had been 435,000 occasions when facilities had used isolation for a period of one to 24 hours and 88,900 occasions when it had been imposed for more than 24 hours.

Also talks about restraint chairs being used. Much less mobility in a restraint chair then cuffed to a chair/desk.

  3. Child abuse doesn't have to be physical. Locking someone in a 6' x 4' room and handcuffing them to bed at night... that's mental abuse. If he was sent to juvi for shoplifting he'd be treated better.

Plus... shoplifting? Isn't that about on par with street racing on the criminal conduct scale? eta: Hah, I was right! They're both first degree misdemeanors.

If he was sent to juvi and snuck in contraband would he be in solitary? Wouldn't that be just about the same as what he had here?

    BERRIEN SPRINGS —

A 16-year-old boy, handcuffed to a chair in his room for a week, managed to get his chair to a computer to call 911 while his mother was gone from the house.

Berrien Springs-Oronoko Township Police issued a report indicating the 911 call was received at 3:39 p.m. Tuesday. No arrests have been made as the investigation continues. But, the 16-year-old and his 9-year-old sister have been placed in foster homes by Child Protective Services.

    Police gave this scenario:

    * The boy told police he had been handcuffed to a kitchen chair after he was arrested three weeks ago for shoplifting. As punishment, his mother confined him to a 6-foot by 4-foot room with only a Bible and told him to think about what he’d done.

    * Roughly two weeks ago, when the teen’s mother found out he’d somehow gotten an MP3 player, he was then handcuffed to a chair in his room from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Meals were brought to him. At bedtime, the teen was handcuffed to a desk leg.

    * The mother provided the teen with bottled water and a bell to ring if he needed to go to the bathroom. He was only allowed outside to shovel snow.

    * The teen told police he was supposed to be spending several months in his room, but “couldn’t take it anymore” and devised a way to call 911.

Berrien County prosecutors are reviewing the case.

At what point do you think she crossed the line from punishment to abuse?

  5. Wouldn't trust it at all. There's a delay with GPS systems having to transmit data to a satellite then the satellite retransmiting the data. Try it with any GPS device and you'll see what I mean.

It is fast enough that it is used to control autonomous vehicles and for all kinds of automotive testing. It is probably more accurate then your cars speedo on top of that. (Just for reference, most manufacturers consider +/- 5mph accurate)

  6.

That is a list of Alternative Fuel Vehicles. Under the column Fuel Type it doesn't list anything in front of the Cavalier. It seems to list E85FFV in front of compatible cars. I would guess it is a alternative fuel car because from 1999-2004 you could get a bi-fuel model that used CNG or gasoline.

    From the same site:

    http://e85.whipnet.net/flex.cars/index.html

    Cavalier is not listed.

  7. Driving around on summer tires in winter is borderline retarded honestly.

Why take your life, and possibly others into your hands becuase you didn't feel like switching tires. You could probably cut a brake hose and "make it" to work using the ebrake, but you'd realise that being able to stop reliably is imporant.

    :nono:

If you drive like you have a brain it is a non-issue. I have yet to have an accident (besides getting hit from behind at a stop light in broad daylight in the middle of summer) in the 8 years I have lived in Ohio. I have also lived in Chicago and Ann Arbor. I have yet to own any type of 4wd or AWD. In 13 years of driving the only times I have had accidents they have all been when I was screwing around. Only one of those has been in the winter and guess what? I was driving on snow tires in a Chevette. Pulled the e-brake "drifting" around a corner and clipped a mailbox. The only time I have even had snow tires is on my Chevette and I ran them year round because that is what was on it when I got it.

The biggest issue here is people forget how to drive every time the white stuff starts flying. I couldn't believe it when I came here and found out about Snow Warnings and them having Level 3 banning you from driving.

  8. well maybe you dont drive where i drive, i have a 40 minute trek to work with a road that drifts a bit. you are the driver i pass thats doing 15mph that shouldnt be on the road most likely.

Actually I am the ricer blowing by you in the fast lane. I regularly pass the same 4wd's that park right next to me in the parking lot.

  9. Read the quote again, it says all grades. The whole top tier thing sounds like a pay to play thing to me. I don't know, I'm not worried. As long as it's premium or e85 I've never had any problems.

Read the quote again it says "all grades of BP gasoline with Invigorate". That is exactly how you can make things say anything you want. It doesn't say all grades have Invigorate. It says that all grades that DO have Invigorate meet(exceed) those standards.

Top Tier is not a Pay to Play thing. It is completely voluntary. If your gas passes we put your name on the list. It doesn't even say that your car requires Top Tier gas just that they recommend it.

  10. If they exceed the standards then they should be on the list.

Gasoline retailers must meet the high TOP TIER standards with all grades of gasoline to be approved by the automakers as providing TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline.

In addition, all gasoline outlets carrying the brand of the approved retailer must meet the TOP TIER standards.

Additional gasoline retailers are added to the TOP TIER list as they meet the standards. The retailers known to be on the TOP TIER list are shown below.

My guess is not all levels of BP gas include Invigorate. So maybe the ones with Invigorate do exceed Top Tier standards but not the others. In comparison everyone else on the list meets or exceeds the standards with ALL levels of gas they make.

  11. this is ohio son, you need awd.

Why does everybody freak about the weather here? We don't get shit for bad weather. I am rocking Direzza Star Spec "extreme performance summer" tires and I have yet to get stuck. Last year I was running on bald Falken Ziex ZE-912 still didn't get stuck. Both years I was in a FWD SC Honda making about 300 hp with a manual. If you use your brain you do not need AWD. That being said, I WANT AWD. (Won't need it here but I still want it.)

  12. What about a chemical that could be applied to tires AFTER manufacture to make them smoke different colors. Companies have done colored rubber that burns color and black tires that burn color for drifting etc. However, all of these are made into the tire. Something that could be put on afterward would have ricers going nuts.
