  1. This sounds pretty cool, I may be in.
  2. Well, I'll resurrect this thread a bit... I'm in the market to get a GPS unit or solution specifically for motorcycling. Budget wise, don't want to spend over $150. Right now I just use my Droid 2 global phone in my car. There are a lot of options such as these cases you can use to mount GPS units to your handlebars: http://www.amazon.com/i-Trek-GN032-WPCS-5-Motorcycle-Handlebar/dp/B004IQ8AI6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1354238995&sr=8-3&keywords=gps+waterproof+case http://www.amazon.com/i-Trek-GN032-WPCS-5-Motorcycle-Handlebar/dp/B004IQ8AI6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1354238995&sr=8-3&keywords=gps+waterproof+case So, should I just got one of those, use my phone, and call it done? I was just at Best Buy and picked up a GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition to take some riding footage. I stopped by the GPS section and saw an interesting unit, the Magellan Explorist 110: http://www.amazon.com/Magellan-eXplorist-110-Handheld-GPS/dp/B006ZGB58Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1354239327&sr=8-1&keywords=explorist+110 It's waterproof, so no case would be needed, and has nice big buttons and a joystick, so you could use it with gloves on... Only thing I'm not so sure about is mounting. I supposed some of the clamp/pressure based mounts out there could work, but doesn't seem too secure. The other option is getting a tank bag with a window, which I'll be getting anyway. I'll also be upgrading my phone in about a week, and likely going with the Samsung Note 2. I'm not too sure of the options available on Google Maps as far as setting waypoint, etc for riding routes, but if Google Maps doesn't do it, I'm sure there are apps on the Google Play Store that work for it... So, lots of options, but it seems the Explorist is one of the few I could use with gloves on, however, I don't think I'd be messing with my GPS unit while riding, lol.
  3. I wasnt referring directly to the dump truck, just driving a car in general, smaller cars start around 2500, hence why i said 2500+
  4. Not sure the exact "criteria" for a streetfight, but here's mine (posted in intro thread too). The day I got it home in May: Before crash guards: Current state from Sunday: Overall pretty happy with it for now, but I'm probably going to get some non bar-end aftermarket mirrors that will work well... Previous one I was staring at my elbows, but with the bar weight on the throttle side, the right bar end mirror gets out of adjustment a lot, plus it widens the bike quite a bit... A belly pan would be nice to get as well. Previous bike, I had intentions to make it into a naked streetfighter, but sold it. The new owner ended up taking the fairing off a turning it into a naked Bandit... I actually kind of miss the Bandit, lol.
  5. What an asshole driver. I really don't understand how people take driving a 2500lbs + vehicle so lightly.
  6. I don't commute where I currently work. It's about 20 miles away and not in a great area... I've already been rear ended in my car while I was stopped at a red light because some idiot wasn't paying attention, probably on his phone or something... He was uninsured too, was also 5 months after buying my first brand new car. There is an alternate route I could take that avoids the freeway and would be a more enjoyable ride, but where I work is still a pain to get into and out of, and a bike with riding gear would make it even worse. If my commute were shorter and less of a pain I'd probably still be riding. One night last week I rode for about 20-25 minutes when it was 29 degrees around midnight. My hands were freezing when I got back though, even with hand guards and silk liners under my gloves.
  7. I was going to say, if you're serious about an action camera, either get a GoPro or Contour. However, from the Youtube review that camera really doesn't seem bad for the price. I got a Contour +2 about 3 months ago when it was first released. I like the Contour before of its size and profile, I think it works better as a helmet camera than the GoPro, at least for speeds over 60-70+ mph. However, the GoPro seems to have better image quality in most situations, but I have seen some videos where the Contour looks better, so it seems subjective and is probably highly dependent on the individual camera settings. The GoPro Hero 3 just came out, and I think I'm going to pick up a Black edition soon. I have some credit at Best Buy I can put towards it. I'll probably use the GoPro primarily as a camera mounted at different places on the bike and the Contour as a helmet cam.
  8. What remix version of the song is in that video?
  9. Got my SW Motech crash bars installed, along with an oil change & some exhaust mounts Nephew wanted to help out too Also got a new fork mount a few days ago http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhriUPS4F4E&feature=plcp
  10. Thanks guys. The hand guards definitely do help *some*. I did notice immediately after I put them on, my first ride with them I felt very little/no wind on my hands, however I road a few nights ago when it was about 29 degrees around midnight for a ~20-25 minute ride... My hands were still freezing when I got home with my Alpinestar Drystar and a silk liner under them. The Drystars are the warmest gloves I have, but they aren't particularly warm... However, I don't like big bulky gloves, don't feel like I have enough throttle control, the Drystars are the thickest I feel comfortable with right now... I've been sort of debating heated grips, but I'll probably wait on that, at least for a bit.
  11. Seems interesting... I don't see myself having a cruiser for a decent bit of time yet though, and definitely wouldn't considering plopping $20k on a bike. I'd probably start with something more sport touring oriented before that GW, or make a few more modifications/upgrades to my 919 to make it more sport touring worthy. That being said, I'd definitely get this over a Harley cruiser for a comparable price.
  12. Thanks all for the welcomes! Is it a 650s or naked? Looking for the 650s. Also what year? Red's usually not my fav bike color, but if it were an 03online or later 650s, i could swing it if the deal's right. Probably not looking to pull the trigger til March/April though
  13. If no one's mentioned it, a 919 with side luggage wouldn't be a bad option either, but 919's can be difficult to come across. Adding hard cases can get somewhat expensive too (but that goes for any bike not readily configured for them).
  14. New to the forum, not "completely" new to riding, but don't have a ton of experience either. I got my first bike in 2008. It was a '96 Suzuki Bandit 600, pic below: http://img571.imageshack.us/img571/2...ndit600web.jpg I sold that in March 2011 (not completely out of choice, was my last year of college and was double majoring, so at that time I wasn't working and needed the money). Since graduating, I've been working full time now and got a 2002 Honda 919 in May: This picture is from the day I rode it back from WV http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/5973/honda9192.jpg Here are some from yesterday after I got the Barkbuster handguards installed, I also took the flyguard off. I think it looks better without and found it threw more wind up towards my shoulders/face. http://imageshack.us/a/img542/7564/919withwindscreen.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img717/1431/919nowindscreen.jpg I also got some SW Motech Crash bars and some other parts on the way. I'll be installing those, doing an oil/filter change, and probably air filter change soon as well. Unfortunately I also need new tires, and probably chain and sprockets too... Things do get expensive. I live around Columbus and I know a couple people that do track days at Mid-Ohio and I'd like to get into trying them next Spring, so I'd be looking at getting another bike around March to late April. At this point, I'm leaning towards an SV650s for a track bike. Not something too powerful, it's relatively cheap, huge aftermarket available, and I'd likely keep it street legal too. I could go on about getting ready for my first track day, but that's probably best left to another thread instead of an intro...
