  1. I should've posted this up a bit earlier, but Sunday I was out on 374 and 56 around Hocking. 374 was the worst I've seen it as far as gravel. I've been down there ~4 times this season. I'm used to the gravel there at intersections, etc, but this was everywhere. Both my brother in law and I almost went down at different spots (luckily we both saved it). When he almost went down, I saw a puff of dirt, but not really anything in the way of gravel/rocks. A lot of it is note very visible either. At some points, I could see it flying up from his rear wheel, but could not see it on the road itself.

56 wasn't as bad, but still had some gravel in a few spots.

Just a friendly warning to use extra caution if you're planning on riding 374 any time soon, we had to slow our pace down as a result.

  2. Sounds like those are fairly old models, after the Galaxy S, I'd say Samsung is pretty solid. I had bad luck with Motorola phones and have pretty much sworn them off, but I heard google bought them, so their new phones may be different.

  3. Note 2 and S4 are the best currently out Imo. I've heard the HTC One is nice too. I've had the Note 2 for about 7 months now and don't mind the size. It's a lot thinner then my old phone and actually lighter (had a droid 2 global before) so it feels less substantial. I've found the screen size to be more useful in many cases if I end up stuck waiting somewhere (reimaging computer at work now), using it for navigation on the car or bike, etc.

  4. he claims no fuel light as well. It's a first year us model if that means anything.

Maybe he just says that since he's almost 60 and wants to stretch more often

Mine's a first year model as well (2002). I almost never get any less than 40mpg, even if I'm hard on the throttle, usually 45+ if I'm babying it, but strangely can't seem to get much over 45 even if I really try at which point I'd rather just have fun with the throttle. I spose if his fuel light's out, maybe he's scared of running out of gas, but if he's never gone more than 100-120 miles, it probably won't turn on (mine hits ~140-160 miles on the tank). Have him take note of how many gallons he puts in at 100-120 miles, should only be ~2.5 to 3 gallons and it has a 5 gallon tank.

Then again, maybe it is an excuse to stretch more often which is understandable if it's straight freeway riding.

  5. Sounds fun, wish I could go, but work interferes :(

You say stop every 100-120 miles as that's the range of a 919 in the group? I have a 919 and my range is ~200 miles til empty, can easily go 150 before thinking of a fillup, ~160 before the fuel light comes on and farther than those number if I'm riding for mileage, but I'm guessing you guys won't be :p

  6. And the price comes down also. $1500. Till I get more free time to fix.

Is it just the radiator fan that needs fixed? Tempting as it's a pretty sweet bike at a good price... Just seems to similar to my current bike(pretty much the same weight, HP, and naked sport bike) and was planning to get a 2000-2003 GSX-R 750 for the track.... Ugh, I'm torn. Wish this was up for grabs before I got the 919.

  7. My typical recommendation for a first bike:

    Suzuki Bandit 600

    Suzuki GS500

    Suzuki SV650

    Kawasaki Ninja 500/ EX500

A handful of the 250's available (I didn't start on a 250, and personally I think a 250's a little anemic if you're going to ever be on the freeway)

    Hondas new CB500f & NC700x

  8. I've got a good friend who's done car detailing for about 7 years. He doesn't do steam cleaning though, so if that's a necessity, he's out. He typically drives the car (or you could drop it off) to his place to do the work, then brings it back. My parents had him detail one of their cars before they traded it in and the dealership said it was the cleanest used car of that year they'd ever seen.

  9. Try to get a list of Ohio law makers that have a current

motorcycle endorsement on their driver's license.

Educating them and getting them on board with the

idea may be a good first step to getting some favorable

    action.

If that doesn't work, we could do what other groups do

to get their way.  For example, check out what happened

in France when the Transport Ministry started talking

    about citing bikers for filtering.

Like everyone else that whines, cries, and raises hell to

get their way, where are the Jesse Jackson's and Al

    Sharpton's of motorcycling?

    .

That takes the meaning of "sidecar" to a whole new level at 5:10-5:12... Wtf? lol

  10. it's going to happen and I hope it does.  a mandate all phones text features lock up while the phone is moving more than 15. i'd even support one that the phone completely locks up.

if you like the seatbelt mandate this is right up your alley

That really doesn't make any sense... What if you're a passenger in a car, or on a bus? You can't use your phone? Stupid...

  11. Good ride guys. I'll post that video here later tonight.

Got a camera eh? Sorry I haven't gotten any footage of our rides up yet, I'll try to get 669 up sometime the next few days. You planning on riding Sunday at all? I might be up for something then, Sunday's supposed to be pretty nice weather wise, low 70's for the high and no rain.

  12. Surprised there are this many other PC gamers here... I built mine way back in 2009 then continued upgrading it. I got an i7 920 back then and really have seen a need to upgrade the processor since then. To give it a boost I got a Noctua D14 cooler and overclocked it from stock 2.66ghz to 3.8ghz about 2.5 years ago.

    Currently it's:

    i7 920 @ 3.8ghz

    ASRock X58 Xtreme motherboard

    12GB Kingston DDR3 1600

2x GTX 680(1 EVGA. 1 Asus) in SLI

3x Dell U2211H monitors for NVSurround

    Corsair TX750 PSU

    Sandisk 120gb SSD, 3x SATA 1-2TB drives

    Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

I may entertain a new build once the next gen console come it since that's usually what drives gaming tech/graphics forward in general. Things have been pretty stagnant with the PS3 and 360 being so old, upgrading your processor has been relatively pointless as long as it's a decent quad core.

  13. I was curious because I had a family member out there in novice and she said she got buzzed pretty hard a few times and she wasn't really expecting that. You know...being in novice and all.

I was running novice too (first day), what bike was she on?

Here's the "buzzing" I got. Caught up to a slow rider, wanted to pass, but didn't think I had room and backed off (think he had a supersport 600 so it accelerated quicker than mine when he decided to), then 2 passed me on each side, then instructor went after them

    starting at 6:20

  14. What's this silliness I heard about Advanced being too full and they were allowed to run in Novice? Is that accurate, or are my relatives even more insane than I predicted?

I don't recall that, but there were a couple guys that passed me pretty damn close on each side of me at the same time on the front straight, an instructor looked like he went after them for it.

  15. Had my first track day 7/16 in the Novice group. Had 1 close call where I went off the track slightly after turn 15, I cut in too early and got on the throttle causing me to go wide slightly, onto the yellow curb and into the grass after it a bit, but recovered (tried not to panic on the brakes or handlebars and let the bike do its thing). Other than that had tons of fun and I'm hoping to get a bike to dedicate to track days and either a pickup, cargo van, or trailer for transportation.

After having done this with my 919, I'm thinking an SV650 isn't going to have enough power, it's got ~60% of what my 919 has, and my 919 feels slow on the straights to me so I'm thinking either a 600 or 750.

I'm sure tons of you could ream me for how bad my body positioning, etc is in the videos and pics, but it was my first Novice, I think I did alright, but definitely tons to learn.

I rode down with Brad who ran in advanced and got 2 PR lap times breaking into the 1:38's. We also used R1 Dave's trailer he kept down there since he had his first race today (Wednesday), big thanks to them for the ride, help and trailer/canopy use.
