  1. Have fun, bring more water in the cooler than you think you need cuz it's gonna BE HOT.  Think at least 1 bottle every 30 mins of time at the track.  I recommend 12-18 waters per person.

Yeah, bringing a cooler full of water and gatorade... I was sweating buckets just taping up the light, turn signals and removing the license plate in jeans and a t-shirt... Full leathers standing/sitting around's gonna be brutal when we're not running.

  2. sorry if this has been covered but I can't seem to edit a post.  is there some kind of time limit or something?  that's gay. GAY!

I understand time limits for editing posts, but it seems like it's ~5-10 minutes... Way too low, should at least be an hour or two.

  3. Interest piqued... Seems like a good value with the Penske and Ohlins suspension components. I don't know anything about that model in particular though, or how pricey/difficult to find Aprilia parts are.

-Also, why selling? Not doing track days anymore?

  4. Two quick observations with no dog in this fight:

    1) I can't believe no one called the OP out on his claim that an R1 has "40% more power" than an SV. It's more like 80% more, and that is if your SV is tuned to perfection, and the R1 is kind if a dog.

    2) "outgrow" is surely a poor choice of words, but if the OP wants more horsepower for street use, an R1 may or may not be the best way to get it. I think he really wants more torque. Nothing wrong with that, and even the best rider in the world can't magically increase an SV's torque curve.

    #1 - I did in post #13

your exactly right - no one ever uses any bike to it's 100% full potential & Im looking for something with more power. I have to decide rather quick thou bec the R1 might be sold by wednesday.

I am looking into the R6, I have found a few thou.

This goes for you, and anyone else on here really...

Use searchtempest for searching craigslist. You can enter a zipcode and radius to search. I usually put in 150 mile radius, easier to find good deals that way instead of just searching by individual city in craigslist. It's not perfect (some dead links from old posts), but it's better IMO:

  5. I don't think so, I got my first (and only) ticket in 2007. No points and only $80.

It was a stupid ticket from a Worthington cop with a little freeway jurisdiction on 315, cited for 77 in a 65 while passing another car. Probably the only reason I was even pulled over is because it was like 3:00 am.

  6. 3k? NADA claims its worth 3.8k. Plus I just put new chain, sprockets, oil etc on it.

Also, I don't know what you're doing, but NADA value states average retail = $3,300. Blue Book States $3,210 for retail... Selling privately = not as much as retail.

Post # 36, you said you'd do 3k for it:

    http://ohioriders.net/index.php?/topic/101795-sv650-vs-sv1000-vs-gsxr-750-vs-for-track-days/page-2

NADA/Blue Book values are not necessarily what you should expect to get out of your bike/car etc. It's simply worth what someone's willing to pay at the time you want to sell.

  8. My FZI is no slug, but on a twisted road it cant touch a SV650 until we hit some good straights. My buddy Jeff rode his R1 to the Gap with us this June, he's now shopping for a FJR or a FZ1. 200 TO 400 miles a day kicked his ass.

This is the reason I'd never have a pure sport bike as my only street bike. You really don't lose much in handling/performance even for aggressive street riding by going with a more upright naked/standard bike. You end up thanking yourself for commuting purposes and longer trips. I personally wouldn't even be considering an SV650S if my main purpose wasn't to track it, not as comfy as my 919.

How much you willing to offer $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ NADA claims its worth 3,8k i believe and it has HID's, custom blue LED's installed with a 12v distro block that will handle 4-5 more add-on's lol. At any rate...I'm not going to go out and do wheelies or do 160MPH. If I do end up buying the R1 and I feel it's way way way way too much for me, I'd sell it. Would it be a waste of $$? Yes but I guess I'll learn my lesson. I'm pretty confident that I have good throttle control and wont push it too far, baby steps lol

You mentioned $3k before. I'd be willing to go that, but not more.

  9. its not totally about the speed, do it want a faster bike than the sv650? Yes, but the next bike I buy i want it to last me a good long while - as in I dont think I'll ever buy another bike, at least not for a very long time. Could I be skipping a step? As far as going from 2 extreme's...yes..but for the money I dont think I could get a nicer bike. Unless I were to go the route of getting a chromed out Harley - which I refuse to ever own one of those!

As long as it is indeed what you want, there's no problem with that, but my thinking is in that case, I'd want a "do everything" bike, which IMO, an R1 (made for pretty much one thing, racing/going fast)is not. I can't really speak to much on ergonomics since I've never sat on the SV650S, only the naked 650, so the 650S may be closer to the position of an R1 as far as low handles, high and farther back footpegs, etc.

At any rate, if you still have the SV650s around mid/late August to mid/late September I may want to take it off your hands if you haven't decided to do something else with it by then.

The way you're talking, I'd highly suggest the FZ1 then or something with a more sport touring orientation. I was like you once too and thought going from my 600rr to a 1000rr would be all I ever needed. Never even got a 1000rr as I came across my VFR and its been absolutely what I needed and I didn't even know it until after a year of ownership

I'd agree here, the FZ1 is much more of a "do it all" bike than the R1. It's more comfortable if you want to do some longer trips (a day or longer), but still has plenty of power and handles well for more spirited riding. On the plus side, the FZ1 is generally cheaper, and will likely cost less to insure.

  10. I feel as if thou I am starting to outgrow the SV. Anything above a 500cc IMO for street is fast enough. But I do know that I want a nicer bike w/a smidge more power. Granted the R1 has like 40%+ more HP/TQ lol. If I wait till after I get a house...financially i think it will be much harder to afford. I can buy a bike now and have it mostly paid off in a years time. I might just keep the SV and give it to my gf & have her pay me like 2k for it  - even thou it's worth more than that lol Shes going to go thru the MSF course.

    decisions decisions.

I find it hard to believe in much capacity you've "outgrown" the SV650 after 1.5 riding seasons, especially without having taken it on the track. Have you hit up twisty backroads on it? The R1 has MUCH more power than 40% more than the SV650, the SV650 has ~74hp, the R1 has 150hp. I don't think jumping onto a bike with 2x as much power as your previous is a great idea. Something like a 919, SV1000, 600, or 750 supersport would be a more sane jump in my mind. I don't think I ever outgrew my Bandit 600's potential since I never really did anything besides commute with it, and I know I'm not anywhere close to outgrowing my 919's potential either.

All that being said it is a decent deal, but I don't see the point in something like an R1 for street riding. I'd rather have something more comfortable with more practical features like an FZ6/FZ1, or a full sport touring bike like an FJR1300/Concours 14 which all still handle more than well enough to have fun on twisty roads. In my mind, bikes like the GSXRs, R6, R1, CBRs, etc belong on the track. Could I see myself owning one? Yes, but not as my only bike. I guess it's all a matter of preference though.

  11. I've had other lids, hic, icon, some other brands. The fit and finish on bell helmets is superior to others I've had, maybe you got a bad one. I don't think I'd go with the vortex again just because of wind noise issues, maybe rs1 or star for my next bucket. As far as venting and comfort, I love it.

Same here... I knew as soon as I tried an RS-1 on, it fit my head perfectly. Got the transition visor for it as well, much better than the flip down solutions other manufactures have, plus it can keep its SNELL rating that way.

Take it in the sunlight and snap a pic? Curious how dark transition lense gets

Pretty dark...  Dark enough to almost look black.

    Not my pictures, but:

  12. Well I found me a lid. Its not the quietest but it will be better than the exo400. I decided I wanted a modular and there was a short list. But in the end the only 3 that fit me were the Shoei Neotech..but price was way too high...Shoei Mutitech but it didn't have the top gun sun visor and I didn't like where the strap hit me.. and the Nolan N90..it fit perfect, love the ratchet chin strap, has the contoured visor for a better seal, top gun style sun visor, blue tooth speaker pocket and it actually was the cheapest option coming in at just under $200

I was looking into a Nolan at Iron Pony before I ended up ordering an RS-1... Nolan didn't fit me at all, but the RS-1 felt like the most comfortable helmet I've ever worn. I tried an Arai as well, and it felt very similar to the RS-1, but Arai's out of my price range for now.

  13. Think he's planning 15-16th. 17th and 18th are wera races. Gonna be my first time racing.

Awesome, good luck. They aren't in the evening are they? May be tempted to come watch if I could go after work. I'd love to eventually get into the 650 v-twin race class, but I'm sure that'll be a while, if ever, heh.

  14. Cool, check with brad on the 16th. Normally, I would be taking his bike in my trailer but I'm taking the 16th off. I'll be there the 15th, 17th and 18th.

Ah, ok. I remember him telling me he had someone who he normally took his bike up with in a trailer. I'm guessing he'll use his pickup... If it'd work out better, I could do the 15th instead, I don't even know if Brad's planning on doing all the 15th through 18th... He said he's doing all of em since it's free for him, but that's a lot in a row, heh. I still need to call Mid-Ohio though to buy a spot. Brad said to check into their gift certificate since he thinks if you do that, you can change days if it happens to rain, so you can switch.

He invited me to go up to the most recent Saturday twilight in June to check it out, see how it's organized etc, but I was riding most of the day. I was still planning on going up, but got back later than I thought, started to head up there at 6:30pm and ran into a massive downpour on 71-N on my way, so I figured people probably called it quits at the track by then. Tried to call him to see if he was still there, but his phone was off.

  15. I do. Thats who I do most of my track days with. How do you know him? He wasn't there for the twilight though. Track was awesome, was told only 15 riders registered.

He goes to the same gym I do, we've both gone there for years, same with Dave who's got an R1. I'm only planning on doing probably 1 track day this year though, my 919 isn't necessary the ideal track bike. I'm planning on getting an SV650S the end of this season or beginning of next for primarily track days for next year, and save up some money for either a pickup or cargo van for transportation. For the 16th I'm either going to have to ride it up and strip it at the track or see if I can hitch a ride with someone's who's got trailer/pickup space.

  16. Twilight was great tonight! I heard someone say there was only like 13 bikes plus control riders. Either way it was like having the track to yourself and NO RAIN.

Do you know a guy named Brad that was there? He was probably there, rides a BMW S1000rr, won free track days for this year. He and his friend Dave have talked me into doing my first Novice on the 16th.

  17. $8k MSRP?

man, I might actually finance a bike...

This is what the FZ8 should have been. Sleeving down an R1 motor doesn't cut the weight or width the way this does.

I don't know why they can't just put a goddamn circular headlight on bikes these days, but other than that, I like it.  A lot.

I agree, on this bike and some others that have just a single light, I don't mind it so much, but I absolutely hate what Triumph did to the Speed and Street triple headlights with the pentagon shaped lights... The double round lights on those bikes I feel like was sort of a trademark, and it definitely looked a lot better.

  18. You can't ride tomorrow afternoon Sean?

What do you guys have going on Sunday? Planning to put some miles in on Sunday. If you guys are down we could make a pretty good ride out of it.

No, I gotta put in 9 hours tomorrow at work, then get to the gym, it'll be at least 7 or later by the time all that's done. Sunday's a possibility if I get the things I need to done Saturday.

  19. Yeah I will. I've got your number too I think. What's the best day for you?

Hey Dizzle, I've ridden with Blitz the last couple weekends. I'm from Westerville as well. I typically can't ride during the week though unless it's short/local (Africa Rd, Bale Kenyon, Jaycox, and Plumb rd are the best I've found locally... Nothing like out east, but if you've only got 1 hour to ride they can be relatively fun in a pinch), and probably only on a Wednesday realistically. Saturday/Sundays are up in the air though.
