  1. Tonik is right.  I love riding WV 16.  Even the sections north of Beckley.  If you have time check out Burkes Garden.  It's not far from 16.

I like to stay in downtown Marion and grab dinner and a few drinks.   There are a number of places within waking distance of a historical downtown.

Got a short hour and a half ride in. It was nice to ride. Could have been a little warmer.

You may want to consider puttting a touring shield and heated grips (or gloves) on that big girl, and it will be good to ride in the cold. The fairing and electric windshield protect you from the wind.  I ride mine year round.  I do use heated gear below 40 degrees

Pretty sure we all have the sport version and you have the old man version.

All Goldwings are old man's bikes.  No 20 year old rider wants to buy a Wing.  However, the Wings are faster and more nimble than most people think.  Even the last generation gl1800s.

Pauly's post on the gl1800 site about the prices for the leftover 2018 gl1800s had me thinking really hard about picking one up.  I'll get one in a few years.  Right now my daughters love the old man's version of the old man's bike.  Here is a photo of an old man with a preteen daughter on the Tail of the Dragon that chased down some sport bike riders.  What you don't see in the photo is the other 2 sport bike riders that were passed to get to this group.2051720207_Photo5.jpg.1744f6a1e6f268a636b408e1db38d524.jpg

Got my 2016 FJR back from the dealer today where she was getting transmission recall work done. Ran great. A bit brisk.

Yamaha added the 6th gear with the 2016 model and apparently almost all of them were recalled. It's been quite a while since @JustinNck1 sold his five speed FJR, but I'm still gonna tease him about having (had) only five gears.

Then tease him for being too young to buy an old man's bike.

  5. ^ What he said + 1.  I'm upgrading my helmet in the spring, and I have been considering going to the Cardo.  My daughters and brother use Sena, so I'll probably stick with the Sena 30k for a while longer.  I have no complaints with the 30k, I was just thinking about upgrading it at the same time as my helmet.  You probably can't go wrong with either.   It depends on what your buddies are using.

The one farkle I want to purchase is a rear trunk with a pad. My wife sat on the bike with me and her 1st words were “this is comfortable “. She seems to be open to the idea of riding with me, so I want to make her as comfortable as possible minus purchasing a Goldwing. I believe you have a Givi. Are you familiar with other trunks? I’ve looked at Kawasaki, Givi, and Shad.

I've got the Givi E55 w/ passenger pad and the older version of this backrest for my Connie:

My kids prefer the backrest to the Givi with the passenger pad.  The back rest is rounded, more comfortable, and more rigid.  They say that they can feel the Givi flexing when leaning back under hard acceleration.

    It has Android Auto now!!

I know.  I wish my kids would have liked the seats on the new one better.   If I got one now, the kids would never let me get rid of our current one.    I'll get one in a year or two, and I'll have 2 of them.  I'll end up replacing the Connie with the new Wing.

Thanks for starting the thread on the GL1800 forum. That really got me thinking about it.

I have a spikey massage ball I picked up at the local runners shop. It does a great job. 10 minutes of that beauty and I feel decent. I just have a heavy load of tools I huck around all day, every day. It is starting to take a toll and I need to be mindful of my personal well being.

I had PF when I was in my early 20s. It isn't that bad, yet. It took PT and 3 cortisone injections to cure that spell. Not interested in another round.

I used to have PF really bad.  It made me quit athletic sports.  I had a physical therapist diagnose the issue and give me some daily stretches.  They were similar to the ones listed on this webpage:

    https://www.uofmhealth.org/health-library/tr5853

These excercises coupled with shoe inserts eliminated my PF.  I picked up running half marathons shortly after recovering.  I haven"t had issues in years, but I still use the inserts in all of my shoes & boots.

I have been working some hella hours and my recovery time has been diminished. I broke down and paid a tiny Asian lady to beat the shit out of me for 90 minutes. She walked a mile on my back, ass, legs, arms and shoulders. Then she contorted my skeleton from my toes to my head until everything cracked and stretched. A good part of this work over was fairly painful because I had knots everywhere, but I feel like a new man today. Woke up with no body aches, except for my feet. Plantar fasciitis is looming in the left foot. I can feel that all day, every day. Today it was the least noticeable in long time.

Get fitted inserts.  With daily stretches, they will mitigate the plantar fasciitis pretty quickly.
