That's kinda why I like the Versys 300x.  It strikes a good balance.  It's fine on the highway and good enough on gravel and dirt, and under 390lbs.

I'll buy one as soon as Kawasaki puts the Ninja 400 motor in it, which is hopefully next year.

Thats exactly why I got a DRZ. The Vstrom is fine on the highway and good on gravel, but its a handful when it gets a little tough.

The DRZ I can easily pick up and makes tough roads easy. Gravel is fun. It will do highway but that is no fun on a dual sport.

Really I should have both and ADV and a dual sport but funds and garage space is lacking.

A good friend of mine has a KTM excf500.  It is very capable off road.  He has bags that he can strap onto it for multiday trips.  It's just a matter of getting the correct tires for street use.   He runs DOT knobbies, which limits the stability at high speeds (above 60mph or so).

I went from a DRZ 400 to a KTM excf350.  It's street legal, but it is very light and nimble.  The 50/50 ties that came on out were fine for dual sport riding or roads, but I am running DOT knobbies for riding in mud & hill climbs.

When your done with the DRZ, you may want to check out the KTMs.  There are a lot of good bikes out there.

  2. What kinds of bikes usually make these rides?  I've got an excf with dot knobbies that I use at Wayne and Perry.  It's great for single track & hill climbs, but these tires are not very good over 60mph on the street.   I can switch tires to make it more street friendly, but I really like riding single track.  I have been watching the market for a lighter adventure bike, but craigslist has jumped the shark.

Sounds like California is going to start rolling out antibody test sites this week. Hopefully Ohio follows. I'll be the first one in line to donate blood if it turns out I have the antibodies.

As far as everything else goes, NYC is a good gauge on what happens if things are left to their own devices and no measures are taken. Yes, the population density there is higher and the public transit system also plays a large role, but people would get sick regardless the way this thing spreads. Mortality is somewhere between 3% and 10% depending on where you look. Places that get hit hard and don't have the medical facilities to handle the load are at or above a 10% mortality rate, which is horrific given the number of people this can/will infect. Keep in mind, 1% of the US population is still 330,000 people. That's more than the entire population of Cincinnati dead if the mortality was only 1% and covid was left to do whatever it wanted with no steps to intervene.

1% of 330 million is 3.3 million, which is 10x worse.

  4. If you have a long investment horizon, definitely ride it out.

I think this Warren Buffett guy has something to say about buying on the dips: be fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful.

It will be interesting to see how the economy acts after this Covid19 plays itself out.

Ouch, guess that rules out the dirt trails, what about any gravel roads in the area? Could take the big bike on those.

    From this link

Due to soil conditions in Ohio most trails Moto or bike are closed until late spring. Wayne I believe opens Memorial Day weekend.

Wayne opens 4/15.  My daughters have been asking about the dates for Perry and Wayne for weeks.

I had one of the original 08 Connies. Was a great bike, but medical bills and such required it being sold. Now riding the big 1290 Super Adventure R. Not as stable through the corners on a 21" front wheel with knobbies, but still a blast to ride.

Go riding with your coworker and I on Sunday.  He hasn't committed yet, but it will be a nice day to ride.

BurgerIM looks interesting if we want fast. More of a decent sit down perhaps Cafe Phenix Bistro which is two blocks north of the Statehouse. Pending your input though as you know the area better than I

There is also a Candado tacos south of the state capital that looks good.  I'm up for any of them.  Are you still on Facebook? If so, I can send a messenger text.  If not, I'll IM you my cell number to text.

2PM signing, I want to be there early that is the way I roll. So an early lunch nearby...or a really early lunch outside of town.

I typically take off at noon on Fridays, and I am 10 minutes away from Statehouse or Short North.  I can probably leave a little early, depending on my 10 o'clock meeting.  Would that work?
