  1. Just tried the spark test again and it doesn't appear I'm getting good spark. Hopefully it's just the plug, but that doesn't make sense to me since it runs and idles fine once it starts.

Coil could have been slowly dying. Especially if it is worse? when the saw is hot. Sparkplug cheapest place to start. For the love of Odin, put a filter on it! Mower or saw shop should have a buzzbox to test coil.

  2. No bulb, no fuel filter. Old skool! Early 90's model.

I did the finger-in-the-hole compression test and it seems to have good compression. Rebuilt the carb 3 years ago and have maybe 3 or 4 hours on it since. Not that that means anything.

Junk fuel. Gasoline goes to shit in a hurry nowadays. If a carburetor isn't too expensive, i'd toss one on it. Engine should have at least 100psi comp.

  3. Most likely needs the Carb rebuilt. There is a small checkvalve that prevents fuel from leaking past the Carb when the engine is off. It's most likely leaking and flooding the engine when turned off. Does the primer bulb go dry when the engine is off? That is usually the easiest external sign of the internal leak.

This also. Check fuel line. My '97 husky had a cracked fuel line where it exits the tank once.

  4. Low compression, or possibly sucking air (crank case seal or intake boot). Leaning more towards low comp. Do you use quality mix and fuel? Ethanol is hard on small engines. May have been running lean due to crud in carburetor or plugged fuel filter. How often do you change the fuel filter?

  5. They were all confiscated. Illegal firearms is why he was in jail. There will be no guns.

I had thought that Mrs Thompson had gotten many of the weapons back and had sold some while Terry was locked up. As for the animals, I heard many were shot in their cages.

  6. Maybe the star will be better, but don't get an rs1 if wind noise is an issue. Mine is loud as hell. I have to wear ear plugs or else the wind noise is unbearable on the freeway

The Star will be as loud as the RS-1 if the venting is similar. Good ventilation usually comes with some added noise. I always wear plugs on longer rides anyhow. No issue with workmanship either...everything is tip top. Will be buying a second one this fall.

  7. Just to be sure...be on time...have all the required gear.  They have a zero tolerance for that, State yanks their sponsorship if there are any shenanigans.

One of my instructors let a guy in the class borrow his boots literally off his feet. Best MSF instructors ever.

  8. After working in a shop for a few years, and seeing lots of different brands and sizes come through I am extremely wary of most "generic" generators out there. The engine and generator set are equally important. Cant tell you how many times I've seen units with Honda engines with gen set problems. Honda, Subaru and Yamaha all use Sawafuji on their stuff. This is why they command a premium. The Sawafujis very rarely fail with normal or even super heavy usage. The voltage regulators and windings are most common failure on the "generics" with parts usually not available locally. If you purchase a cheap generator, go ahead and get a replacement voltage regulator for it...odds are you will replace it at some point. Don't get Hung up on wattage ratings either. It's all about amps.

The difference between a true Japanese generator, and a Chinese unit is that one is a purchase, one is an investment. With propper usage and maintenance I have no trouble saying a Honda, Subie or Yamaha will last for 20 years or more.

  9. There's a spray bay a few hundred yards from home I use for rinsing off. Pretty low pressure, but perfect for a motorcycle. Afterwards I ride home and use my air compressor to blow off remaining water. Then I use a cleaner/polish that a friend put me onto.
