  1. So as a WAG you think it's a module connected to the abs module.

What is that module called so I can look it up ..I tried looking it up but all I see are the ABS modules.

    Thanks

It is the ABS module, it bolts directly to the ABS pump. There are two part numbers down there on the frame rail, one has the brake lines going in, and the other has the electrical connector. If that is the issue both have to be replaced and just the parts are stupid expensive, like $1000 or better for alot of trucks in that era.

I should’ve referred to the ABS pump in my post above, sorry for the confusion.

  2. Sounds like an ABS issue. My off the cuff theory is that the ABS module developed a leak internally, and quite possibly shorted the module attached to it. I would have to spend some time operating it with a scan tool attached to get an idea of what is going on.
  3. This dude was married to my wife's daughter and turned out to be a big turd. You should see the mess he left behind. We had to pay for a bulk pickup to get rid of the shit he left behind. The kids rooms where disgusting.

Damn. Sorry to hear that, shitty to have to clean up after some loser like that.

  4. Saw your post on FB, I’ll keep it in mind for sure as I don’t have room for another dog but will pass the info along.

I just don’t understand how people can have a dog and just leave it. If you cared about the dog at all you’d make sure it found a good home. Sad.

  5. Caught it Saturday morning with my wife, a fantastic movie. I have always been a fan of Carrol Shelby, and this movie didn’t disappoint with great portrayals of Shelby and Miles. If you’re going to pick certain car guys to look up to, you couldn’t do much better.
  6. That's a great point. The NOCO has an "override" button for exactly that scenario, but thinking back, I may not have used it, which would explain why it didn't even try to start the van. I only owned it a couple days at that point and later learned about the override button. It might be worth looking into whether yours has a similar override.

Mine does have an override button, but it still has to sense that it’s hooked to a battery, ie some level of voltage. You can’t hook it up with no battery and get it to turn on, I’ve tried.

  7. I have the NOCO you're looking at.

I used it to jump a 4cyl accord twice within 5 minutes in freezing temps when the booster was 75% charged. There wasn't an abundance of cranking power, but it started.

It failed to jump a totally dead 6cyl van (didn't even crank), but in all fairness that van took another vehicle with jumper cables over 15 minutes to jump. I actually think the booster would have done better with the dead battery disconnected.

I like that NOCO is an Ohio company, and it is a quality unit, but I'd go bigger than the GB40.

I can tell you that at least some of these lithium jump packs will not even turn on if they don’t sense some voltage. I decided a little over a year ago to buy the biggest thing Matco sells, and “it’s capable of starting semis!” Lol. At least that’s what they said. It jumps most stuff, but there have been many cases where shit is totally dead and it doesn’t do shit. For use around the shop the traditional big heavy jumper with a battery in it still has a place.

I realize the topic of this thread doesn’t involve heavy use and what you guys are using them for that they should work just fine. I would only want one to keep in a car for use in a pinch. I wouldn’t want one to use on a regular basis. When I need a new one for work I’ll be going back to the old style.

  8. Also people that do as a little as possible to clean off their car really piss me off. A scrape here and there, and fuck it, I'm good, let's get driving. Clean all your windows off, you lazy, unsafe POS...

Haha! Good to know I piss people off. I clear my windows and absolutely nothing else. Enjoy all the shit blowing off my truck lol.

  9.

Guys, OF COURSE I know I can get stuff at Amazon. I just wanted to see if anyone had some good stuff from past projects they'd be looking to sell or give away. It's really not about being cheap; it's simply checking with other car guys if they have quality wiring components that they want to get rid of. Reduce, reuse, recycle bitches! :D

Give away the good stuff? Sounds fishy.

  10. I wouldn't expect most any tire in that size/style to last much longer on that vehicle/setup. I would stick with the DWS for the price/performance.

Got to agree with this. Can’t expect much more then what you got.

  11. Since we're talking about the 3.6 I have an 08 one that I shut down one day, started The next and it jumped time. I replaced the chains and now it's got about 20psi oil pressure on a cold start and as it warms it drops to nothing and I get a sound like the chains are rattling. I haven't had the time to look into it again but since we're on the subject, any guess on the problem?

Either the oil pump took a shit, or something gained a bunch of clearance in the engine. Not something I’ve seen quite like that. Seen a number of them get sludged up and not drain the oil back to the pan fast enough starving it for oil, but you didn’t really describe that.

  12. The early ones had all the chain issues. By 2013 that isn’t much of an issue. They need their oil changes, I’ve seen a few neglected ones have the cam actuators go bad from being starved of oil. The most common issue tends to be leaking purge valves, and they’re easy to do.

I own a 2015 Impala, or course I keep the fluids fresh in it but it’s been a very nice car with 78k on it now. My parents have a 2016 Impala. I’ve worked on many of these and know them well and wouldn’t have bought them if I thought they’d be a money pit.

Even the early ones can be a good buy if they’ve had the chains fixed. The engine is typically mated to the fwd 6 speed which can have issues too. Better parts were used about the same time they got the chains updated. Typically more of an issue in the Traverse/Acadia platform due to hauling more weight.

This is not to be confused with the second generation 3.6 which started production in 2017, however they still use both. Haven’t seen much out of those but it’s early yet. Just a few solenoid issues for the cylinder deactivation, and yea that’s how you can tell, the second gen shuts down 2 cylinders.

  13. so how does that work - just have to go hat in hand to the other dealers for their inventory and work out a trade? or just wait till parts trickle in slowly?

I doubt dealers keep replacenent pistons in stock. More than likely they come from a regional parts center, which all dealers are going to pull from. It didnt even occur to me that people at those centers are UAW, and if so, even if they're sitting on a shelf you're not getting anything until this is over. The only alternative is finding used parts at a junkyard.

Mallard is partially right. Supposedly they’re making the warehouse management send out parts. Some stuff still trickles in via FedEx. Geeto is right in that we are still trading with other dealers, kind of. Some are refusing to give up their inventory, including us to certain places. It’s a mess.

  14. I figure the Cruze I have in my bay now will be a while before I can fix it. Didn’t know if it needed pistons or a complete engine until I tore it down. It needs pistons, couldn’t drive it the way it was anyway, but now I have a big paper weight to deal with until my parts department can find everything needed to put it together.
