  1. What a fun race! Love the TT format since it inspires to catch up to others. There were 12 men in the Beginner 40+ starting 30 seconds apart. When I saw that I started 6th, my goal was to pass two people and not get passed. I was able to catch one person right away and kept getting glimpses of others in front of me. I managed to pass all 5 in front of me and even caught a few of the Beginner 18-39 fellas that started at least 4 mins before me. It felt great to haul ass and really push through the trails! I took 1st and my time was over 2 mins faster than 2nd place for our category. Still got a ways to go, but very cool to see the progress I've made. Next Sat marks 1 year of owning and riding a MTB, can't wait to see what a few more seasons brings!

  2. Gonna head to Huffman trails in Medina tomorrow am. Meeting up with a few others at 8am if any care to come out. Probably do a few laps of huffman side then head over to do all of Reagen side.

  3. Had a great weekend on two wheels! I got to borrow a Trek Fuel EX 5 27+ from our demo fleet and hit Royalview Sat evening and Bedford Sunday am. Such a fun bike but compared to my Procaliber, felt heavy on the climbs. 27+ and full suspension really absorbs all the trail chatter! I returned the bike to our Stow location and just had to try the new Specialized Epic while there! Only got to cruise the parking lot with it, but that is a sweet ride! They slackened the geometry a bit to make it less XC and a bit more trail to help with the more technical XC courses and it felt good! Not like my Procal or the Fuel EX, but right between. They also redid the brain and it sure is nice! Bike stayed stiff as a hardtail until suspension was needed on the little bumps I could find in the parking lot. Super fun bike!

  4. East Rim and Hampton are fun too. I like Bedford for how open it is, can really get moving! For not having mountains, we sure have lots of fun trails!

Hoping to be on a Fuel Ex or Stumpjumper this weekend to try this Full Suspension stuff out, so may be slower than usual! I think most of my issues come from lack of skills vs lack of suspension...

  5. I think trails take a while to open, but once opened they dry out faster. I got into MTB last July so didn't have to go through that open/closed period. I was shocked this year at how often they were closed at the start of the season since last year they very rarely closed after July.

If you haven't been to Huffman/Reagan recently, I HIGHLY recommend the newly added downhill flow section where that open plain was. SO FUN! I finally made it through all the trails last weekend there. Most likely will be there again Sunday and the 4th in the am. I used to think I had to go to Mohican for long rides, but it was a long ride at Medina and can always add on more loops there or head over to the Austin Badger trails if wanting more miles. Medina has it going on!

  6. Very cool! I want to do one of these, but always told myself I try to go fast through the woods all the time so whats the point of paying to do so. I didn't know you actually had rabbits you could chase down! Sounds much more appealing. Will there be one next week assuming weather holds off?

  7. I've posted this up before, but will put it up again at lower price. The misses just rides her Long Haul Trucker now. Bike is in great shape, was tuned up lat year and wasn't even used. Fits a 5'-0" tall lady or man. Size is 44, looking to get $600 for it. Full carbon and 105, not bad!

    Details

    • Carbon frame and fork are carefully shaped to absorb vertical impacts, such as road vibrations, and remain laterally stiff for smooth cornering and acceleration
    • FSA Gossamer Pro crankset is made of cold-forged aluminum to provide efficient power transfer to the transmission
    • Shimano 105 components offer smooth shifting throughout all 20 speeds
    • Wheelset offers a low spoke count for quick acceleration; wear indicators lets you know when rims need to be replaced
    • Large diameter BB30 bottom bracket increases lateral stiffness at a critical frame interface
    • Tektro dual pivot brakes offer precise feel at the lever, leading to excellent control under braking
    • Schwalbe Durano folding tires offer low rolling resistance and solid grip
    • Carbon seatpost is designed with the same technology as the frame and fork, to further reduce vibrations felt by the rider

  8. I didn't really train a lot for this. I do ride the road during the week and get to trails around the CLE area when open. Spent some time on the trainer over the winter, but not as much as I wanted. Will be more dedicated to trainerroad over this winter, just enjoying the outdoors now.

I've only been to Mohican twice before the race, once was last season. It isn't needed to go there every weekend, wouldn't hurt though! I just started MTB riding last summer and am by no means super skilled on the trails.

I plan on doing it again next year and bringing out a few other friends. If thinking about it, do it! It was an amazing experience. Just try to get as much climbing or simulated climbing done before next year and you will be fine.
