  1. The route and the length will have to depend on the weather that day.

I was going to ask my neighbor, Bill, to suggest something for the route. But both of you (Lenny & Justin) are also from 'round here so I'm sure we'd be open to your suggestions.

Bill has been talking about going out 47 to Weston then either north or south. He commented that the last time he went that way and north he found a lot of trucks on the road hauling water for the fracking sites. Anyway, if north, then 19 to Shinnston, then 20 to New Martinsville. If time & weather permits we'd cross the river to get to 526 to 26 to get back to Marietta. Google maps says that would be 7 hrs and 250 miles which is a pretty long day. More to the south and shorter would be 47 to Glennville, then 33 to Ripley, then 21 back to PKB, which would be a bit over 4 hrs and 170 miles.

Another of Bill's favorites is to go down 21 to Kenna then 34 to Fairview to stop at McD. That's a bit over 2 hrs and 75 miles to get there. Rt 34 is really twisty and is the treat at the end of that leg. Return options are to just backtrack  (4 hrs and 150 miles), or to take the river scenic, flatter ride on 60 to Point Pleasant then 2 to Ravenswood, then 68 back to PKB, about 30 minutes and 20 miles less than the backtrack.

We should probably start a new thread in the Rides/Routes part of the forum.

I rode out 47, then over to Glenville and came back on rt 5. It was really nice, not much traffic either. There were a couple places with a construction flagger patching roads. I have also went past Weston and into Seneca Rocks, over to Clarksburg and back rt 50, right at 400 miles. You really gotta keep a decent pace on that one to not run out of daylight.

  2. What does it look like with the wind screen all the way down?  Is it manually adjustable, or do you have to control it manually?

My favorite FJR memory is a guy and his girlfriend having one at Mid-Ohio and camping right behind us.  His girlfriend was a total butterface, but she had an awesome rack, and no awareness whatsoever of the fact that the screen door of their tent was quite transparent.

Here is a video of the speed it moves up and down =>

The first photo was about half-way up. Once you're on the windshield mode, you simply push a button up or down to adjust the windshield.

  4. no harley no care

just joking.. i read a lot of good stuff in the write ups they did in the magazines.  congrats! one sweet machine

It was between this bike and Street Glide, but the street glide was out of my price range for now. Maybe in a couple years...

  5. Well I have been wanting a new bike for sometime now, so I can go on some more long distance trips, and I finally got a new bike. 2014 Yamaha FJR1300A. I test rode this bike in July and fell in love. This thing has plenty of power and amazing comfort. I had to trade off my old BMW, but I'm happy now. Onto the pics...(That's my buddy's 2011 R6 in the background. The thing is mint.)

  6. JN1 i always enjoy riding the section of 555 from rt 7 to Bartlett, but anytime i can slip up to 78 i do. Probably one of my favorite roads. Next time id like to go on out 78 and bring 377 back to 550.

I think 377 just got a fresh re-pave at the bottom of Sharpburg hill, but I haven't been out towards 78 since spring. Ive never been on 329 on the Glouster side of Amesville, I always take it back towards Stewart. I'll have to give it a try sometime.

  7. Hey thanks guys, ill have to try to look him up sometime. Made a little loop in Ohio myself yesterday, around 115 miles.I took 550 to 329,then 13 up to 78. Turned right off 78 onto 555 back to 550, then headed back to Parkersburg.

That's a good ride there, I work in Parkersburg, but live in Coolville, so I like to ride 555 and 550 on my way home from work. Welcome to the forums!

  8. In June I switched from a white Scorpion to a light silver Shoei. I'm always wearing a backpack.

Mornings I go on Corridor D from the Ravenswood/Lubeck exit to the one from 68 just before the bridge.I'm usually on that stretch just befor or right near 8 AM. Very variable in the evenings.

I usually go through right before 8. Red BMW with a Silver Shoei. Usually wearing dress clothes lol

  9. I have a set on my BMW, and they are a great tire. I have about 7000 miles on my front and still have good tread. Don't know about the rear. Darn nail forced an early replacement. They stick really good and it takes a good bit to slide one on my 700 lb bike.

  10. Wow, my new member post is getting to be pretty old but it flared up again.

Are any of you guys who are near Marietta/Parkersburg planning to go on the Epic ride in Sept?

I'd really like to go, probably will, but I don't know for certain that far ahead. Anyway, if anyone else is going, would you like to meet up?

If we want to use 550 over to Athens we could meet in Barlow or Bartlett. Or if we want bragging rights we could meet up in Coolville, but we'd  probably end up taking 50 - unless one of you knows the back roads. I'll be taking that straight-ish fast road on the way home.

Oh - one last pitch for bike nights, Thursdays 8/14 & 8/28 at Texas Roadhouse. :)

Right now, I am free this weekend, but I will know for sure when it gets closer. I live in Coolville, and my brother lives two blocks from the meet-up location. I know some good routes to and from there.

  11. I used to have a Stoeger Condor Comp 12 just like this. Great entry level sporting clays/trap gun. The guys at the gun club always got mad when their perazzi got beat by a Stoeger.  :D Good luck with the sale.

  12. +1 - you won't go wrong with any of those.  Personally, I picked the latest-gen LCP for its super-light weight, plus I couldn't afford the P380, the CW380 wasn't shipping and my hand didn't like the BG380, but those were personal decisions.  Like I said, any of the others would be great picks too.

I recently had a Kel-tec PF9, and sold it to buy the new Bodyguard 380 WITHOUT laser. It's cheaper than the laser version and you get two mags.
