  1. Why would a '68 be converted to an '82? Am I wrong in thinking it'd be worth more in the original '68 trim?

     

    Nope your right but its all depending on when the conversion was done and who was doing it. I personally was looking for the newer wide look but original trim does fetch pretty pennys also.

  2. Found out I had off Friday, so made a move

     

    '68 converted into an '82 low mileage 3.0 liter air cooled..

     

    tons of receipts, including 5k just for a sunroof install..

     

    Lets just say I got it for ~half my budget so it was perfect example of what I was looking for. The hard part of the build is pretty much complete. Nowhere near perfect by all means, could use a new paint job after some body work is touched up, but I'd rate it a 7/10 due to few stress cracks. Old fuse box/wiring will be updated and finishing interior is also on the list. Runs and drives great for an almost 50 year old car. Was a very wealthy mans car that was being built for his son that went off to college and then traded in a 6+ car trade to the guy I bought it from. Should have took some pics of his other toys Lol.. If for some reason I decide to sell it along the way, I should have no problem making my money back if not easily make profit on it..

  3. Man that bike is sweet... good job. I saw someone riding a similar bike but not as custom with some belongings stacked on that rear metal bar it looked pretty bad ass!

  4. It's a Porsche. Some cars never really make financial sense, so if it doesn't come together for you you may have to come to terms that this is a car you might lose money on due solely to the nutzo fruitbats that have seemed to enter the Porsche marketplace in the last 2 years.

     

    Gotta ask yourself, do you want a 911 or a flip, because you may not be able to have both. I am not saying you shouldn't try, but at the end of the day there is the car marketplace and the Porsche marketplace and the two are not the same.

     

    honestly this is all just a lot of flap for a vw beetle with two more cylinders and a speed snail.

  5. I'm just trying to wrap my head around, why you wouldn't pick up a 930 you can get for 30k or less? But want to spend 20k on some ratted out Porsche? That 930 would easily yield a 30k or more profit if it's as you state? :no:

     

     

    The only reason was I wanted to stay under 20k is because its the amount of money where even in worst case I can make most of anything spent back. There is just a tipping point to me where it becomes a real gamble and in my situation there is no reason to gamble with that amount of money.

     

    The one I'm talking to you about now is what I'm in the process of getting. We shall see if seller comes through.

    I do kick myself for not picking one up 2-3 years ago for mid 30s, but that's life.

     

     

    I don't understand the point of this thread if you can get a 930 for 30k, but want to spend 20k on something beat..... Take a look at what 930s are trading for.

    :lol: You guys read that wrong. I'm not saying HE buys the car and then pays me money, I was saying I uy the 930 and he gives me the difference of 30k..

     

    For example I buy it for 28k and difference is 2k but anyway it was more of a joke then anything who the hell would give someone money for the free.. no need to get butt hurt fruits.

     

    However, I did find one for a little over my budget and situating the deal right now. If everything goes through should have by mid next month.

  7. Realistically, what's your budget? How much money have you put aside to throw into a car like this?

     

    The rule of thumb nearly everyone talks about in the air-cooled forums, was buy the best example you can afford because these cars are more expensive to fix up rather than buy in good condition the first time around.

     

    Buy something with engine trouble, you're looking at an easy $5k rebuild. Body parts and miscellaneous parts need replaced? That stuff adds up REAL quick.

     

    I guess what I'm getting at, is that I hope you know what you're getting into.

     

     

    Realistically 15-20k range. That is without straining myself and selling all my toys/being able to pay off the rest of my two years tuition.

    Since its about to be sold within a few hours here's the one that needed some paint and interior work that was up for 10k, this again is a good car for what I'm looking for. Just like many people get hook-ups I would pay a fraction of what most would pay to have the exterior looking minty. Have been working with one of the best professional painters in the area since I've messed with cars and he'd have it shining. Even buying it for the new bullshit adjusted price of 15k id be able to have it looking pretty great for less then 20. But him being in Boston and me in Cleveland is the downfall making it difficult to make the buy:

    I was looking around and there is this 911SC for a decent price and I offered him 24k and he was thinking about it thoroughly, you can tell he wants to accept or is a few grand away from letting it go. If I bumped it up a bit and told him I'd come out today and its all cash in hand it would probably seal the deal but It was more of a test to just see what his bottom dollar was but just shows there's decent ones for ~25k running and driving.

  8. I checked 911SCs a few weeks ago and I didn't see a complete/running one for under $25K except for one with a salvaged title at $20K.

    Ok So what would you pay for a running/driving '83 911 targa with 90k miles that needs paint and minor interior work with a clean title?

  9. Listen to this bullshit! Found an 83' targa 911 posted 3 hours ago few hundred miles away and he wanted 10k. Needs new paint from sitting outside and some interior love but zero rust or rot and runs/drives well. I'm talking to him & getting info and then half hour later he tells me he is sorry and that the owner is raising the price to 15k?!? Uhhh wtf... so close but yet so far... Oh well
  10. Is there any way I could edit my OP? I totally got distracted and posted the thread mid sentence because I was trying to get the picture uploaded but was having problems with the computer I'm using -_-

    Anyways, here is the complete summary of getting it road legal again:

     

    Get inspection receipt from DMV usually around $50-$55. Schedule the inspection to your nearest highway patrol location ASAP because in the summer months its usually at least a month wait but that gives you time to get the bike/car finished so its not bad. For every part you replace, KEEP the receipt, you will need it as proof that you did not steal the part. That is the number one thing they are checking for is that you have not assembled a bike with stolen parts and that it is safe on the road. One thing that sucks is I have had bad luck with eBay receipts so try your best to not use eBay receipts. Once you tell the officer what you replaced and he checks the receipts then you are good to go. If you pass, he will give you your title back along with a paper that shows you have passed inspection and you take this paper along with the salvage title to the DMV. The DMV will then take the salvage title and make it a rebuilt-salvage title aka rebuilt title and now its used as a regular title. Go get registration and ride!   

     

    Some tips: They test the front brake light, rear brake, signals (front and rear) (integrated kit is good too), horn. They also check all vins. You do not need registration OR plates to get the bike to inspection. You are allowed to get it there however you'd like I always ride it up there unless its snowing then I put the bike in a truck. On a few cars I bought years ago it had a different motor and trans. I did not put a new motor and trans in it since I just bought it like that. They asked me about it, and I told them I was not aware and the I purchased it like that. There were no problems and I passed just like normal. Be honest and you'll be fine, its not rocket science. If you buy used parts from a car/bike then have the owner write out a receipt/bill of slae clearly explaining what you purchased/price/date/both names and signatures/phone numbers AND VIN, do not forget the vin since its the most important part along with seller info. Some offices are more strict then others and require it be notarized but some don't mind. I came in with a notebook paper that was mostly crinkled up and it had all the info they needed so worked fine. Those are all the instances and details I can think of. Its simple.   11. 2014 CBR 500R with only 460 miles

    Was layed down, salvage title.

    Runs and rides but will need a few things before road worthy.

    -Rear wheel

    -Turning signals

    -Foot break lever assmbly

    -Fairings

    -exhaust

     

    If you never had a salvage title bike, let me give a small summary of how to get a rebuilt title. You get a salvage inspection paper at you local DMV ~$50. Schedule your inspection as soon  by calling them or going online Any replacement parts you buy, you must have a valid receipt, and eBay receipts do not qualify.  

    I was planning on fixing it up but found a newer CBR600rr I want to pick up and need to free up some cash since I have a couple cars and three bikes.
