  1. More 62 road work...culvert replacement near Millwood, one lane - traffice maintained with traffic light. Happening soon..

I know what your thinking, run 36/3 from Sunbury to Mt. Vernon....uhmm, 36 will be closed, just north of Sunbury....another highway project.

  2. Check out ride is done. Ran the whole route. Have ended up with 130 miles and around 4 hrs riding time, plus add in eat at Roscoe.

Sue manages to find the buzzards, so you bird watchers.....stay near her. Deer hunters, I'd be yer guide.

Minor kinks, but manageable, since the bridge at USR62, doesn't look anywhere near done, I think we'll buzz Killbuck (the second largest metropolis in Holmes Co.)

Mileage cut because of the endearing conversation with wife on radio. 36 miles and whining....48 miles and oh darn, my radio is...click...hello?.....click, beep, squelch.

She got much better after we stopped to eat and "itza miracle! My radio is working again.

At Roscoe lunch, on yer own. Warehouse restaurant, patio if weather is good (Lance), basement too. Across street is Uncorked, lite fair, pizza (they got downsized, but still good). Then there is the sandwich shop in Medberry Mkt Place(?), the gourmet food shop. Just walk straight thru to the back and you'll find that sammiches place. Also an outside area...if not snowing (Lance).

  3. Yeah, well as I recall last year it felt damn near cold enough to snow and it rained on us the last five miles, so apparently those rules are flexible.

Then there was the Holstein rodeo portion of last year's ride:

    2012Leaf3.jpg

Hey! It was nice when we left!!! Besides, I wore gloves and we actually didn't hafta wrangle any cattle.

  4. Oh, Sorry....Gingerich Tractor Sales. On SR39 in Holmes County, east of Millersburg and west of Berlin, across from Holmes Lumber. Had trailer rentals too.

He said the mc batteries ranged from $40 to $60.

  5. Rough check out ride....awesome! All state routes, all good pavement. I haven't done mileage or time. Just bits here and there....and AWESOME!!!!

So anyone up for a flash ride of sorts? Smiling....

Jack Flash, et als. Roscoe Village is 37 miles to Newark and 71 miles to Columbus using SR16.

  6. The old Virago had a battery go south, so messing with it. Tested and bad cells. So commenced the search for new battery. First call, $130.....yeah, YIKES! Second call $95... Hmmm, maybe another place....third call and battery now at $80.00 quote.

Trickle charger works maybe I can limp it along.

Then I remember my travels in Amish Country, and a stop at an Amish business. Noticed a rack of.....motorcycle batteries. Wha? the Hey? So I went back there. Yep, they got motorcycle batteries.

"How much I ask?" Depends he says, what battery? So ended up pursuing this. Got a battery for $47.75.

It turns out to be exactly .... EXACTLY....the same battery that was toast in the old Virago.

Who'da thought?!? Amish buggy battery? Dunno.

  7. 62 closed again, by Danville, as noted in another string update. Shortest unofficial go around is really bumpy. Think gravel and you'll be fine. At Danville side, take Black Rd., on left and follow it to Body Rd, coming up to you on right,. This is the really rough road....knocked the ctr cap off of my all-wheel drive.

The other way around is a little nicer. Main Street and take street between Hangout and hdwre. Go left, behind and between grain elevator or just go straight until next stop sign and go left there. The next stop sign is the road to be on. If ya cut between the grain elevator, go straight on. If ya didn't cut between elevator and went to the stop sign and turned left....now ya gotta turn right at that stop sign. This road brings ya out onto 62, with this road ya gotta a chance to dodge the spots of bad pavement.

Confused? Just go straight (North) at Danville BP station on 514 for 8 miles and turn right onto SR520. Longer, but way more fun. Unless you're in a jeep!

  8. JackFlash, yep, I think it is actually SOUTH Market....confuses me since the station is at the North end of town...go figure, huh.?

I'll be trying to get off work for this.  I thinkit's actually 3 South Market Street, inDanville.  But it's too close to matter. The current Google Map street viewshows it to be a BP Gas Station. If anyone wants to ride with me fromNewark to Danville and/or back, you are welcome.  Google Maps says, from Newark:

    • 8 miles up SR 13 N to St Louisville
    • Turn right onto Dog Hollow Rd (Co Rd 206 into Co Rd 165) for 2.6 mi.
    • Continue straight onto Martinsburg Rd (Co Rd 165 into Co Rd 204) for 3.5 mi.
    • Continue onto St Louisville Rd (Co Rd 31) for 2.4 mi.
    • Go thru Martinsburg [s Market St (Co Rd 31 / SR 586 N ) / N Market St (Co Rd 31 / SR 586 N / US 62 E)
    • Continue to follow US-62 E (Millersburg Rd) for 13.6 miDestination will be on the left.
30 miles from Newark to Danville, for 45 minutes.I would like to be gassed up and leaving Newarkby 10:00 AM.  Departure point to be determined.PM me if interested. .

AND, remember ....Rain or Snow we don't go.

  9. Sorry, I know way late on this....SR83 all new pavement from Clark to Coshocton. Enjoy!

However, SR39 has been chipped and sealed from SR179 to Loudonville. It is rideable, the two wheel tracks are mashed in....just don't forget loose stone everywhere else. On it Sunday.

  10. Group is mtg at Danville Gas station , the Lyon's Den, please note spelling and don't get all excited. Gas station is 3 N. Market Street, Danville. The usual mtg place of folks. 11AM and chance to fill up and pit stop. Leaving 11:15, but flexible...if folks are still filling up.

The soft pace ride will stay mostly on SRs, as expecting newbies (folks afraid of 555). The usual odd collection of bikes and scooters. If Ron shows up on his 2-bippy scoot, ask him about his ride to Florida.

So start in Danville, north on 514 to 520, the standard anymore, and then to USR62, will see about the "traffic maintained" bridge at terminus of 520 at USR62.... Have to dig out my old routes from past events...guessing at 175 miles, from Danville. We will stop at Roscoe Village for eats on yer own. Ride can end there for some. I will close the loop back to Danville, via 541 and to Martinsburg, where Columbus folks can split off at USR62. I will head back to Danville and ice cream using 62.

Until the next time....toodles, me lil'carbs

  11. Howdy folks....haven' t been able to get on since mid-June. To catch y'all up and confirm. 520 is open. SR60 both bridges south of me are done...rode 60 north from Loudonville to Ashland also open.

USR62 is closed once again near Danville. Two bumpy ways around it. Most bumpy and gravel-like, as pavement is toast. Shortest. Directions coming from Killbuck and to the barricades at Danville turn right onto Body Rd...terrible shape....to stop sign and left onto Black Rd. and back onto USR62.

The other way is the traditional Danville by-pass of a sorts. Before you get to bridge signs, road at left, forget the nam, itz by and before Hesston Equipment....orange tractor sales bldg. Look for bicycle/trail signs....take it thru back neighborhood and worm your way out to "Hangout" ( good burgers and half price on Tues.). Okay, for this left from USR62 as you were heading to Danville from Killbuck, left at orange bldg, and follow road. Stop sign and go straight and curves left by grain elevator. Stop sign and go right. Next stop is the main drag of Danville and USR62.

See ya in a few months....when I can get back on.

SR715 is a nice dusty brown, and eventually dirt/dust will be rode away.

  12. Plug kit I saw was smallish, may just fit under seat...$20 to $30 I was told. Passed on the "barn find" Suzuki 750. It turned out to be a survivor '77. Ran but not very well. So only have the lil' trlr and a new tire and the great afternoon along the road.

  13. Nope mid-week....leave 'em in yer car or on yer bike at work...I' ll snitch 'em after dark! Hafta sneak across to the wrongside of the tracks though

Posted Farmstead.....you're too slow. Smiling here.

  14. Why Russia Would Win in a Nuke Reduction Deal

On June 19, standing at Berlin’s historic Brandenburg Gate, President Barack Obama renewed his pledge to achieve “a world without nuclear weapons,” saying the United States would reduce its cache of nuclear weapons by one-third if Russia does the same. Russian President Vladimir Putin dismissed the offer, but made a counter-offer. It’s an offer that Putin would love the United States to accept, given that it would cripple the West’s defenses.

    Are US-Taliban Peace Talks Hopeless?

Despite the Obama administration's hopes, the prospects for peace talks with the Taliban are poor given the unlikelihood of the Taliban negotiating in good faith and the Afghan government’s resistance. Although a dispute that threatened to scuttle the first round of U.S.-Taliban negotiations may have been resolved over the weekend, it is unclear whether the talks will still take place.

Global Reflation is the Main Event

Despite recent concerns over efforts by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to use a reflation policy to boost the Japanese economy, this is becoming a global strategy, says LIGNET Special Economic Adviser Dr. Peter Warburton. However, Warburton advises that there are some bumps in the road for the world’s turn toward reflation.

Syria Is Now the Front Line in a Sunni-Shia Struggle

Clashes between Sunni and Shia Muslims over differing interpretations of Islam are increasingly to blame for the violence in the Middle East. And nowhere is the clash between the two denominations as pronounced as it is in Syria, where mostly Sunni Muslim rebels and foreign al-Qaeda fighters have taken on the Shia regime of Bashar al-Assad. Whichever one, Shia or Sunni, wins the civil war in Syria will have won a big prize, and will see its power in the Middle East significantly increased.
