http://www.hidextra.com/ I ordered this over the DDM kit and have no issues. It has been a while, but I think the main difference was the addition of a digital ballast. However DDM's lifetime warranty is hard to beat.

Sounds like my luck.. Of the three times I've been hit, twice the person didn't have insurance, and last time the girl fled the scene and gave a false statement afterwards leading to "no fault". Unfortunately, the least stressful route is to just pay the deductible and hope the insurance is able to collect from the guy.

I took it in 2008.. I decided not to take a prep course since I was still working full-time while studying and it would have been difficult to fit one into my schedule. Assuming time/money is not an issue, I would definitely recommend a prep course. Also, the test is mostly about time management and quick decision making, so reading study guides to come up with strategies to quickly eliminate wrong answers will be highly beneficial. The section which I had the most trouble with was reading comprehension, mostly because I tended to take more time reading the passages than I should have. Be sure to pick up 8 or so of the previous exams from amazon.com and run through them timed so you get a feel for the pace you need to maintain. Schools rarely (if ever) look at the essay, so do not focus much time on that.

Transmission is a big issue in those cars, expect ~$3k for a replacement sooner or later.. My 03 CL-S (6-speed) has gone over 200k miles with no issues other than normal maintenance. I still daily drive it and frequently travel between Indy and Cbus with no worries.

With that many miles, I'd want to see complete maintenance records and no noticeable problems. Check for any sort of suspension noise because those repairs can add up fast. I sold mine at 85k when I decided the maintenance costs just weren't worth it. I will end up in another Audi sooner or later, but it will be an "S" and under warranty.

And just for reference, from the Ohio Revised Code: "(B)(1) Subject to division (B)(2) of this section, a person is presumed to have acted in self defense or defense of another when using defensive force that is intended or likely to cause death or great bodily harm to another if the person against whom the defensive force is used is in the process of unlawfully and without privilege to do so entering, or has unlawfully and without privilege to do so entered, the residence or vehicle occupied by the person using the defensive force." ORC 2901.05 Also, the prosecution has to prove the offense beyond a reasonable doubt, while the accused only has to prove their affirmative defense (of self-defense) by a preponderance of evidence (more likely than not). Obviously the facts and Ohio case law interpreting the statute will be the deciding factors, but this is a starting point for anyone curious. As for the definition of "victim," obviously a public official has to be true to the law. Here is the definition provided by ORC: "(H) “Victim” means either of the following: (1) A person who is identified as the victim of a crime or specified delinquent act in a police report or in a complaint, indictment, or information that charges the commission of a crime and that provides the basis for the criminal prosecution or delinquency proceeding and subsequent proceedings to which this chapter makes reference." ORC 2930.01

Wow.. in shock. Kenny is the reason I joined more than 7 years ago. One of the few I still hung out with when back in the bus. Sad day.

In the 30k miles I had my A4 (58k-90k) I had to do the timing belt, all 4 wheel bearings, tie rod ends, and the control arms.. I heard from the next owner that the turbo quit a few months later, lucky me! As a comparison, in the 90k+ miles I've had my Acura, I've only had to do scheduled maintenance (timing belt + oil changes basically). I'm sure I will end up in another Audi sooner or later, but I guarantee it will be CPO'd this time around.

I had a 99.5 for a few years.. Nice, fun cars, but make sure you have some decent $$$ set aside for repairs. The most common mechanical problems from what I've seen (I still frequent audiworld.com) are wheel bearings and control arms. The problem a lot of people have is that they are cheap to obtain nowadays, but the cost of repairs has not gotten any cheaper and they are showing their age. Make sure you learn up on them before buying one because they can be money pits if you do not stay up on your maintenance. Audiworld.com is a great resource, search and you will find more than you will ever care to know about these cars.

Does not surprise me.. We had a 96 Taurus and a 97 Explorer whose door keys were interchangable.

Used Trailblazer SS's are relatively cheap ($25k and under last I checked a few months ago).. Theres no doubt in my mind it'd be cheaper to go that route than try and upgrade a lower model.

Like most later model MBs, reliability is an issue and maintenance isn't cheap.. Theres a good reason they're so cheap nowadays. Personally (from looking at later AMG models), under 50k miles is a reasonable risk to take. Just keep in mind nothing will cheap when/if something goes wrong and make sure she can have some money set aside to account for that. Probably not something most people want to think about, but the fun factor will definitely be there so I wouldn't put that in question.
