Not sure how much it weighs yet, it's alot. 3800 with driver is probably a decent guess, maybe a little bit less. The clutch we toasted was the RPS twin disk carbon. RPS rebuilt it for free since the pressure plate clamping force was way below spec when they checked it out. We will see if it holds better this time, so far so good on the street at least. The only 3/S to dyno higher then this car (by 17 hp) is also running the RPS carbon, and it has held for him.

I think now he owes you a roll race on the street. BTW Linn, who were you racing south on Riverside drive near Fishinger yesterday? I was out on the water doing some wake surfing, and could hear what sounded like your car going through the gears. I said to everyone in the boat, "that has got to be Linn", and sure enough I got a glimpse of a pewter Z28 through the trees.

IPS carries all sorts of Greddy products. http://www.ipsmotorsports.net/index.php?manufacturers_id=12 Just email or call down at the shop to get a price on exactly what you need. http://www.ipsmotorsports.net/contact_us.php

So now you are trying to argue that there are problems just because the group is large? Your “logic” here is dumbfounding. Man, the cops better call in SWAT wearing full riot gear to the OSU game today... Anyway, people getting along is not the point, far from it. I’m talking about people respecting their hosts and their business. I guess that concept is completely lost on you. It’s obvious that I’m getting nowhere here, so I’ll just finish with a quote by Tilley. Maybe you should read this a few more times.

Are you kidding me? You have got to be retarded. When you make comments like "they get upset about people coming to hang out" you just make yourself look like a moron. We enjoy hanging out with other car guys, that's why we offered to host the meets in the first place. What we don't like is when people don't have enough common sense to be respectful of their hosts (noise and trash for example). We also don't appreciate it when people try and break into the back of our shop. I called you fuckhead because you are obviously one of those people who think it's perfectly ok to act like an idiot on somebody elses private property. If people just came to hang out we would have no problems, but obviously that's not the case here. The reason there weren't any trash cans on the south end is because we have set up barrels so that people didn't park on the south end so as not to block the ambulance business. We also asked multiple times in person and on the forums that people not park down there at all. See this post for an example: http://www.columbusracing.com/showpost.php?p=342817&postcount=4 Regardless of where you parked, (since that request was obviously to hard for you to understand) to actually find a trash can you would have only had to walk a few feet. I guess that is too much to ask for lazy and disrespectful people. Seeing your attitude about it, I can only imagine what your doublewide looks like...

No fuckhead, we get upset when people trash our lot even though multiple trash cans are provide. We get upset when people make enough noise that our neighbors call the cops and bitch to our landlord. We get upset when people try and break into the back of the shop while we are out front. And we especially get upset when people start fights with IPS employees who ask them to turn their stereo down.

Car looks great Joe, this makes me want to get some good shots of my car... Are you still on stock twins?
-
Exactly. Nevermind somebody actually stepping up to a bet without a solid page of stipulations to buffer their comfort level.

I don't really think the evo is trapping 140 on boost yet, that's a good amount of power on a 35R to move a full weight car to that speed. However, it sure as fuck isn't trapping 125 as some self proclaimed "experts" have stated. The car will go the dyno. The car will go to the track. For now Mike is enjoying driving it every day and racing other fast street cars. When we have some numbers we will be sure and update all of northern Ohio about what the car actually runs so that everybody can rest easy again.

If you are staying NA it's most likely not worth it compared to the other options out there. However if you are going forced induction of some sort then it's definitely worth its weight in gold. I'm an AEM certified tuner, and I wouldn't do any serious mods to any personal car of mine without it. Here is a pic of the custom setup in my 911 using an AEM race box: http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/3/web/2415000-2415999/2415299_26_full.jpg It has a fairly steep learning curve, but there is lots of user info out there on the AEM forums if you take the time to read and learn it yourself. The information available through AEM’s imbedded datalogging is also invaluable for troubleshooting various running conditions. Once you have a good base tune with everything in the software setup correctly, small changes and fine tuning are relatively easy. For a new user I would definitely recommend having an experienced tuner do the base tune, you will save lots of hours and headaches this way. You can call Jeff down at the shop if you want some pricing options for the parts and/or tuning time. I have 4 other AEM cars to tune this week though, so I hope you aren't in a hurry.

Nope, we just started the motor, had somebody hold the turbo up from under the car, and then used an air hose to make the compressor spin. A lopey idle means that the cam is to big for turbos?

When will there ever be a post of someone working on there own shit?
Renner replied to Mattsv8's topic in Passing Lane
Ya, when you have about 2 feet of total exhaust length after the turbo, it tends to make some cool sounds. The noise the car makes is probably my favorite part so far, it came out sounding exactly as I had hoped. When did you see it? I've only had it out a couple times this year. -

I built this: http://img326.imageshack.us/img326/3438/241529916fullut5.jpg http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/8848/24152996fullra9.jpg http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/3549/241529926fullro1.jpg I have very little spare time these days, so it took much longer then I would have liked. I enjoy the fun stuff (fabrication, tuning, etc), I do not enjoy the grunt work (dropping the motor, cleaning parts, etc) one bit. I will probably pay somebody to build my next project car for me when the time comes. -
I like the cayman but even in stock form it's still extremely overpriced for what it is in my opinion. The Techart version looks good with some better performance, but $125K+ is just ridiculous. From that article: “Those are the performance cornerstones of the new TechArt GTsport, that TechArt Automobildesign (http://www.techart.de) builds in small-series production based on the Porsche Cayman S. MSRP starts at 100,000 euros.”

I would suggest calling the NTB he works at (Canal), and then asking to speak with Nick. I don't think he is on here too much these days.

Like Sean said, great story, sounds like it was an awesome trip. Those prices for rooms at the Palms are much better then I thought they would be. Just picturing this conversation...

Um, pretty sure that's not a pic of Linn's engine anyway.

Despo, when you have no idea what you are talking about (which is all the time it seems), please stfu. If somebody offers to do some vid work, great, we appreciate the offer. When somebody calls and says, "Hey, I'm coming over to your shop in a little bit, I'm taking vids of everything you guys are doing to post on the web." Then it seems a bit funny. Especially when we call Tilley, and he says he knows nothing about it, and not one of us has ever even met this guy before. But that's ok, we understand that alot of people are excited to see how this project turns out, so it was no big deal. This was before we had posted any details about his setup of course. The fact that this guy is now whining about it on the internet is why he gets a reply.
-
Who are you? Are you involved with this project in any way? We have cameras of all types, and have taken plenty of pictures and vids. We do have our own plans for making vids you know, seeing as how we are the ones putting the work into this car. If Tilley wants us to take any additional footage while the car is here, I'm sure he is entirely capable of picking up the phone and giving us a call. When the car is out on the road, you will have all sorts of chances to take all the video you want as you tag along to whatever cars are trying to race. Thanks.

An Ultima would be a very fun project indeed. Which G50 did you get? The very first G50's (from the late 80’s) weren’t the most reliable units. The 5-speed G50/52 is just about as strong as you can get and it has a nice 4-plate LSD from the factory. This is probably what I would use on just about anything making real power. The G50/20 is not as strong as the G50/52 but it is one of the most common 6-speed G50's found in the US. It is a good box to start with as the early 95 boxes have a separate 2nd gear which makes rebuilds easier. With a 25” tire and stock ratios the G50/20 is good for 181 mph @ 6500 rpm. However 1st gear is too short for just about any car and the input shaft is a bit on the weak side. Forged upgrades and full gear sets with steel synchros are available, although throw in all the goodies with a Guard LSD and you can have $10K in this box in the blink of an eye. The G50/30 and G50/31 are some of the best 6-speeds you can find for a track car if you don’t want to have to get inside to re-gear anything. They do have much lower top speed abilities though.

I didn't see what the specific question was, but the wastegate setup isn't shown in those pictures.
-
Yes, 9 is lower then 10. To run more boost then he currently is, and to help with his headgasket problems, he needs to LOWER his compression. As in, something less then 10. And to think, this guy is calling me a dumb fuck.
-
WTF are you talking about? He is already running 10:1 compression with a blower at 10 psi. He needs to lower his compression a bit to help with his current head gasket problems if he wants to run more boost.

That is not the TTI kit. We just bought the exhaust manifolds to use since waiting on the engine build put us way behind schedule, cutting off our development time for the fabricated tubular manifolds. The TTI stuff uses much smaller turbonetics based T3/T4 turbos, and their intake/intercooler piping is less then ideal. A pair of GT35R's with the correct a/r turbine housings are perfect for the goals we have for John's car, they are not severly undersized like the other kits you have seen dyno plots for.
