  1. 1500's all have 5.3L 285HP/325TQ LS series motors. The newer ones bump the power specs up 10. The 2500's have the 8.1L motor, and though I could get one of those for similar money, they are big-time gas hogs (like 13 mpg all highway if you are lucky). The 5.3's tend to get upper teens on mostly highway driving if you aren't into the floorboard all the time, which isn't necessary driving one of these things. Which isn't much worse than the Moostang that I drive around daily.
  2. Please explain this. That bed can easily haul a quad w/ the hard cover off and still enclosed, which is all I could see me needing the bed for, besides moving around a motor, tranny, engine hoist, etc. All of which fit WITHOUT ever opening up the midgate to gain the extra space if needed. Hell, you could still haul a stove, fridge, TV, washer, dryer, etc. without ever evening opening up the midgate. Can't haul most of that stuff with an SUV. Yet I can still haul the people an SUV can, and with the hard cover on, the back is secure and dry like an SUV. And if I need to haul the standard 4x8 sheet of plywood, open the midgate, and have at it. Again, can't do that in an SUV, yet I can still haul people. Best of both worlds as far as I'm concerned.
  3. I love the looks of the Avalanche, and like the body cladding better than the WBH optioned Av's. A quad Cab pickup doesn't do what an Avalanche does. It also has plenty of niffty extras that make it worth what it is. I'd MUCH rather have an Avalanche than a quad cab Silverado. And it seems the quad cab Silverado's tend to go for about the same money as equally optioned Avalanches, which makes the decision that much easier. The Av is said to ride better as well, since it is based on a modified Suburban frame; I can say the ones I drove today rode quite nicely, even though they were the ones that are supposed to have the harshest suspensions.
  4. The car was built for economy, not speed. Just like the Yugo, only better. Leave it at that, and save up for something worth modding. This is good advice, and your pocket book will thank me.
  5. #1: Melissa has NOTHING to do with this. Hell, she was kind of surprised I wanted an Avalanche. She has never once suggested me getting another vehicle or replacing one of mine. Hasn't even hinted towards it. #2: I will definately sell the Jimmy (post fixing it, unless someone wanted to offer a decent chunk of change for it pre me putting a motor back in it). If I had an Avalanche, the Jimmy would serve no purpose to me, and I know I'd never drive it. #3: No down payment; finance the whole thing. #4: Mustang is questionable. I don't need rid of it, as I currently have the title to all of my vehicles, and isn't worth enough to make a huge difference in a payment on an Avalanche. I might sell it, but that's still in the air. Other than needing some exhaust repair (which is all labor, no parts other than some bolts needed), it is a pretty decent car; I'd hate to get rid of such a reliable car. I know, sounds odd, but even at 209k miles, and I'd trust it on a drive across county without a worry. Besides, everyone needs 3 cars, right?
  6. Just say no to retro. Besides, I'm sure Mopar will fuck it all up, just like they did with the Charger concept.
  7. I'm trying to make the "mature" decision here. My origional plan was to buy a 99-01 C5 M6 Coupe in the spring to replace the Moostang as a non-snow daily driver. But I've come to realize a better tow vehicle than the Jimmy would benefit me more than another toy, cost me less $$ than the Vette, and it's truck abilites could have been handy for me in the past. What I want: 2002 1500 Chevy Avalanche, Z71 or Northface Edition, Leather. What I've looked at so far: 03 4x4. No Z71, no leather. Price was close for an 03, but not what I wanted; I didn't even drive it. 03's tend to be out of my price range. 02 Northface Edition. 67k on the clock, awesome shape, drove great, loaded. They wanted 15,995, and wouldn't really budge. Coulda got it for $15,700 or so, but I would only offer up $14,700 + tax/title. Sucks, I really wanted that truck. 02 Z71. 85k, no heated seats, no Onstar, base HVAC system, was a smokers vehicle (could smell it strong, but no interior damage), short in the rearview mirror compass/temp wiring (probably an easy fix). I made a single final offer of 15k out the door. Sales manager said I was "right on the money" but he had too much into it, and couldn't let it go for that. My offer was basically $1700 less than what I could have gotten the Northface for, but that $1700 bought a lot IMO. Anyone else have any leads. I basically want an out the door price of $15,000. I was willing to pay a little extra for the Northface truck simply because it is a limited edition that I really liked (Z71ish package, white face gages, sweet custom leather seats, roof rack, block heater, custom fit North Face baggage, etc.) If you know of anyone selling one that meets my needs, and my not very flexiable price, please let me know.
  8. My girlfriend has a 2005 Yamaha Kodiak 450. We went quad sledding yesterday for a bit, then went riding through the woods n' stuff, running over trees, etc.. She has some chick friends that also own quads as well (and none of them are hicks either); I went down to Wayne w/ them last fall. Hell, I might end up buying a cheap used quad in the spring; it's a blast.
  9. They installed the alarm on my Formula back in 01. I can't recall if they asked for my address or not; regardless, the car hasn't been broken into since then, and my address is different now. They took FOREVER and didn't put the alarm horn where I wanted it, but that was an easy fix for me to do, so no real biggie.
  10. It is a Felony if caught using one..........but you gotta be caught, have charges pressed, AND have a lawyer that sucks first.
  11. Contact Mercury Keller. They are on the corner of E Livingston and Kelton. Not a good area, but they have do good work from everything I've seen them repair, and for a reasonable price.
  12. Peak power means nothing. RMS does. Honestly, it has a lot to do with your budget. You don't have to have a super big amp for your mids and highs to have good, loud sound. I like my Eclipse 4-channel in my Formula. I loved the previous Audio Art 6 channel I had in there before it was stolen.
  13. I didn't need help; I just needed people the hell out of my way. I wasn't stuck at all, I just couldn't drive where I was at....I didn't have any troubles getting the car moving once traffic was cleared.
  14. Oh fuck.....oh fuck! I never saw that before, and damn sure could have went the rest of my life without EVER seeing that. I didn't even make it 1/2 way through that shit fest!!!!! Fucking nasty.
  15. Damn, that does suck. I wonder what they will find to be the cause of the accident.
  16. I think I drove through pretty much the worst part of it. It stopped really coming down about 1/2 way through my trip (8-8:45), at least where I was driving. I tossed in 268 lbs in the back. This most definately isn't my first RWD in the snow....actually, I've only driven a couple winters w/ anything buy FWD (92 Camaro RS V6 w/ open rear, my Formula w/ snow tires back when it was a daily, open rear 2WD Blazer, and the Moostang). I plan on getting rid of the car, so I don't want to invest in snow tires for it. Hopefully the weight will help w/ traction a bit.
  17. Just say no to retro. I'll have to wait and see. But I don't want another "05+" Mustang. Actually, I don't want a Mustang at all, so let's hope GM doesn't try to copy what Ford did.
  18. I really need to get my Jimmy running. Moostang: no weight in the rear, 245/45/17 Z rated tires down to the wear bars....does have a working limited slip though, and is a stick car, which helps. I left work at 8 tonight; I work around the 161/270 area. Normally a 20 minute or less drive home to the R-burg.....45 minutes later! - Had to stop at the Strawberry Farms stoplight....car didn't agree with taking off. - While trying to get going on 161, tail kept swinging to the right. Missed several orange barrels by a foot or so. - Car kept pushing itself further and further to the right. I babied the gas as much as I possibly could; it didn't care. I stop, and motion all traffic to pass me. - Once traffic is clear, I gun it, swing the car perpinducular to the way the road goes so I could make it into the far lane, then swing it hard over to straighten it out. It worked, but couldn't have traffic there to do it. 270 was alright, mostly idiots picking their own lanes/speeds. Topped out at 30MPH (car is fine crusing as long as you breathe on the gas, only accelerating, especially from a stop, is where it really sucks). Near the Main Street exit, lane I was in got worse in a hurry. Tail started swining out quickly, had to hit the clutch to straighten her out, as no throttle wasn't cutting it. Rest of the way was alright....just babied it home. Funny thing is, the fresh snow in my neighborhood was 10x easier to drive in. Go figure. I'll be throwing a bunch of weight in the back of her tonight. Be careful out there folks, it isn't pretty. Saw a box truck into a barrier, car 270N turned around in the median.
  19. That really sucks. The bosses sent out a text message this morning to avoid that area; our shop is by there. I take that exact route (161 exit) home every night....hope it is open by then!
  20. Just think about that one for a second. Don't be a fag!
  21. Lifestyle Communities Pavalian. We left early as Mudvayne wasn't getting it done all that well.
  22. You drive a Moostang, you would have lost anyway.
  23. Ugh. My Jimmy still isn't finished, so I gotta sport the ol' Moostang. 245/45/17 Z-rated tires, and down to the wear bars out back. This will be fun. Made it through Jan. on this past winter in the car, but there was a bit more tread back there then. I might have to go buy a bag or two of sand to toss back there....she gets a bit tail happy.
  24. Today is also the Sevendust/Mudvayne/10 Years/Boba Flex concert....I'll be leaving for it shortly.
