Ok, I just drove the car in the rain and you know those little tar strips from where they repair the roads? Well, when it hit's those you can feels the car (or the one wheel which is on the tar strip) lose traction and the car slightly jiggles then grabs traction. Now, at the same time when that wheels gets traction back it makes a slight "donk" noise. So, it needs an alignment (although it drives straight down the road) and the tires are probably cupped, which would cause the high speed noise. What do you guys think?

...actually I need it taken out of my '04 Crown Vic and then installed in my '02 Explorer. Anyone on here do that stuff or can recommend a place? Thanks, BC

They are Goodyears. My wife used to have a focus back in the day and it kinda made the same noise from the day we bought it.

I just bought my wife an '05 and it has 58k on the ODO. All highways miles but I got a REALLY good deal on it. Anyway, I'm used to american cars (Crown Vic, Explorer etc) and they are both very quiet vehicles when it comes to Tire/wheel noise. The maxima has this kind of droaning noise at low speeds, at like 15-30mph and then a lot of tire noise at higher speeds. Basically you can always hear the wheels turning. I'm not sure how else to explain it. The car has 18's with decent rubber and the brakes seem pretty good, no shake and the car rides silky smooth. Any insight? I'm thinking new Rotors and Pads, then maybe tires. The tires are 80% used.

Thanks for all compliments guys. I've decided to keep it, but like they say everything is for sale for the right price. The wife, AKA the "Boss" gave me the ok on my "projected budget" to get this thing into the 1000hp range by spring time. I'll be moving to Florida towards the end of next year, so it will be interesting to see how the Tampa race scene reacts to the car. All I gotta say is Tilly, your ass is mine! ;-)

The car will rev to 7,000 and make 20+psi. Plus the juice in the trunk. The internals and drivetrain are good for 1000hp. In order to accomplish this you would need a stronger block and bigger fuel system. There is maybe 100 miles on the Short Block. It's all fresh. The way the car sits, with a 200 shot (blower is off the car right now) it's good for low 11's. This car is a BLAST to drive.
