Another huge +1 for Steve and his crew. From the above post, I got to a point in a project I didn't feel comfortable with doing it myself and trusting the outcome. I had them come in under the assumption that X, Y Z needed done, and that was not something I wanted or had the ability to do. But they said I only needed to do X and actively steered me to doing it rather than having them do it due to their cost VS my capability and somewhat based on time frames. I'm relatively capable in this area and despite that they could have easily oversold me on them needing to do it, as well as having the scope and cost be higher than necessary. But they shoot straight with me and even gave me some great product suggestions and locations to get those products. I hope and I'm sure I will have projects in the future where they will be my first call. This experience along with MoJoe and the OP solidifies that for me. Also like others experience they also respect your time. They were here right when they said they would be to look everything over. That's also a huge plus in this field where half of the time people just flat out don't show up. EDIT: It was nice meeting you Steve, thanks for coming out and looking over the project.

HOA wants us to remove part of our new driveway
Trouble Maker replied to carl1647545492's topic in Dumpster
I haven't, but I would never personally chose to live anywhere there is an HOA. Zoning said OK, so tell the HOA to go pound sand. But I hate everything HOAs are and stand for, so my hatred of them is coming out here. Probably the more reasonable path forward is to read whatever by-laws you supposedly violated, go to talk to them. Make some kind of case to them while saying sorry for not kissing their ring first, through whatever appeals/arbitration process they have. Any reasonable person on their end, even if you did violate something would hopefully realize it's kind of an asshole move to make you tear stuff up. I'm also assuming what you did was not unreasonable, and they will be reasonable. So, many assumptions on my end. I know you, so I think what you did was probably not unreasonable. They are on an HOA, so I don't necessarily expect them to be reasonable. But I think you almost have to give them and their process a chance. So, what did you do, make the driveway too wide by 6" based on some arbitrary rule they have? -
Please excuse my ignorance of carbs, I can't find comparisons of the 2245 VS 2300. Can you not do the Holley Snipper 2300 with your intake manifold? I assume the 2245 and 2300 intake flange is the same from your original post talking about upgrading to the 2300 and not needing a new intake.

Denon 3600 for $800 new http://www.crutchfield.com/S-pdtrY4q0qU6/p_033AVX3600/Denon-AVR-X3600H-2019-model.htm It seems like the lowest price it's been, but especially since COVID hosed all of the supply chains and increased demand. https://camelcamelcamel.com/product/B07RR6WQBW?context=search&active=new But if you already have something, and are just waiting for HDMI 2.1, it definitely makes sense to wait for a new one that actually works.
-
Which Yamaha, what price point? Do you really 'need' HDMI 2.1, are you a gamer? The Denon's (3600 or newer, 4500 or newer) have tested really well lately on https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php I'm planning a 5.x.x (probably 5.2.4) setup now and will probably go with the 4500 since I have want for 2 additional stereo zones. Maybe the 3600/3700 since I'm probably OK with doing just 1 zone in both other spaces. But to get into that size chassis/architecture it's ~$1k and up so it really depends on how much you are wanting to spend.

One of the issues I see with this is battery weight is high. So even if you had a light chassis if you use the stock batteries, the weight still won't be all that light. But the total energy needed for a 1/4 pass is way less than making it 200-300 miles. So I wonder if smaller quick swap battery/batteries would work well. You would need really high C rate with a 'smaller' battery. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_battery#C_rate IIRC on the Buckeye Bullet the just have enough charge for 1 run and either swap the batteries or quick charge between quick enough to the their other direction pass. I think it has to be within a few hours. On an interesting note, OSU-CAR also took an electric powered motorcycle to Isle of Man TT. https://www.google.com/search?q=isle+of+man+tt+OSU+CAR+electric+bike Have you dug much into anyone doing EV with drag racing? I guess it's probably pretty rare at this point. I'm curious to some of the inventive ways people have or will come up with to make EV in Motorsports viable.

LG CX OLED going on sale at costco on 10/28 w/3 year extended warranty 65" - $1849 https://slickdeals.net/f/14447630-costco-77-lg-cx-oled-plus-3-year-additional-warranty-for-3-449-99-3449-99?src=SiteSearch Lowest price on Amazon per Camels is right now at $2269. At least I assume this is the same one, I don't know LGs naming conventions. https://camelcamelcamel.com/search?sq=lg+cx+65%22 I've no image of what prices around Black Friday or after will look like.

+Eleventy for TCL w/Roku, we love ours. I was 'waiting' for OLED to come down enough in price, but then our not so old POS Samsung died. That was the second Samsung we've had that died entirely too early. So I got the TCL, thinking it would just be an inexpensive stop gap until I felt good about OLED prices. But, I'd be happy with OLED prices now and I have no want to buy one because the TCL is more than good enough. The built in Roku w/RF remote is probably the easiest way to consume streaming TV. If I had to make the decision now, I would definitely spend some more and get some higher end OLED. But if you want the best bang for your buck, or especially for a secondary TV, these things are hard to beat.

Mice, rodents, assholes that chew through shit.
Trouble Maker replied to Mitch's topic in Passing Lane
They could be using a frequency above the hearing range of dogs, but still in rodents hearing range. And 19khz (or 20khz) for humans is pretty optimistic, based on healthy and young ears. I'm just assuming the same is true for the other animals, that this is probably typical top and bottom of the range of hearing. So if you have an older dog, the top # is probably lower. But also this. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_pest_control#Effects_on_rodents -
Steve, how would you feel about doing sub-floor including 'leveling' in about a 300sqft space? It is in a finished off attic with steps in an old bedroom off of a hallway. The access is not amazing, it might be tough to get full sheets of plywood up there. But we could almost fit a queen size box spring up there (80"x60") so it's close. We already ripped out the carpet, most of the hot-dumpster-fire sub-floor and for no good reason 2x4s on top of the floor/ceiling joist. It's a 1925 farm house so the joist are not plane by this point. I need to finish the floor gut and see how out of plane they are. I've no experience with shimming or any other method for bringing a sub-floor into plane. I do not expect it will be level, that's not a reasonable request in this house. I feel bringing someone in to do this portion is going to be my path of least resistance to quickly get these floors done. You would be dealing with a 'blank' slate set of floor joist that are not plane. We can chat offline if that's best. Just trying to see if this is something you would be interested, especially in since it's just a 'small' part of this overall project. If Joe says you are good, that's all the input I need to trust you with any projects.

That's all even worse notes than my expectation. I guess we can all cross this one off of our list unless it's an MT. But even then it seems like there aren't enough redeeming qualities.
-
I never got to the point of wanting one enough to go check one out. That's why I asked what you thought of it since you have driven one.
-
Was hoping you would chime in and talk about the Maserati since you recently had a bit of experience with one.
-
I was looking into Maserati Coupe/Spyder a bit before I got the S2K. Yes, Ferrari engine, but cross plane crank in the non-Ferrari cars... so half way there? Still a cool engine, a high reving smallish V8 with pretty high specific power, and that intake! 'F1 transmission' is just a marketing term. I'm pretty sure it's an automated (traditional single clutch) manual. I don't think anyone has made one of these for mass production that was worth a shit. The Maserati one is pretty well known to be a pile even when new, and had reliability problems. They did sell an MT version of that car, but it's pretty hard to find. The are more rare than the AMT and you have to shift through any search results because taters list the AutomatedMT as an MT. I think the Cambiocorsa trim is supposed to be the AMT and GT trim is supposed to be the MT, but the accuracy of that on Auto-trader is also really bad. NOT the right price point due to year/mileage and probably too high listing price IMHO, but just an example. https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?listingId=543695569&zip=43015&referrer=%2Fcars-for-sale%2Fsearchresults.xhtml%3Fzip%3D43015%26city%3DDelaware%26incremental%3Dall%26modelCodeList%3DCOUPEMAS%26makeCodeList%3DMAS%26transmissionCodes%3DMAN%26listingTypes%3DUSED%26sortBy%3DderivedpriceASC%26location%3D%255Bobject%2BObject%255D%26state%3DOH%26firstRecord%3D0%26marketExtension%3Dinclude%26searchRadius%3D0%26isNewSearch%3Dfalse&listingTypes=USED&numRecords=25&firstRecord=0&modelCodeList=COUPEMAS&makeCodeList=MAS&searchRadius=0&makeCode1=MAS&modelCode1=COUPEMAS&clickType=listing

I feel like you just moved into your last place, congrats on the new house! Great opportunity to get the floor done before you move in. Good feedback on the race deck too, sounds like it's a non-ideal product for actually working in your garage.

We have a big 1 car garage right now, a bigger garage is a medium term project and this one will be torn down. So I'm only doing things that are easy, I'm going to get a big/quick time investment back on. The bare concrete was such a PITA to clean up. Even from dust it was never truly clean, there was always dust remaining and impossible to get complete clean for any fluid spills. I did a very basic clean up to the floor, no prep to the surface otherwise, 2 part concrete epoxy. It's held up great after about 4-5 years. The only small issue is it rained and there are some water kind of stains, lighter spots where some moisture must have seeped in before it completely dried. Even those spots the function is 100% and the paint hasn't come up. Maybe I got luck and the paint took well to the concrete surface. Having said that, if this were a longer term use garage I would probably pay to have someone do it. I will definitely do it or get it done right when we build the new garage. I think anyone who actually works in their garage will be very happy with how well some of these products work and how much easier it makes clean up.
-
That product which looks like it must collect every ounce of dirt and stray car fluids from your garage under it, so you have to uninstall it to clean occasionally and then reinstall all over again? No thanks. Eric, for some reason I thought you had a product like race Derrick installed already? If so, why are you changing?

If they have to tell you in the name of the phone that it's essential a phone and you have problems with it working as a phone how are you trying to blame the service?

I think the 5xx seem to be even lower priced than the 3xx of a similar age/mileage now. This is just my vague recollection so it could be off base. I would guess no MT options in the 5-series, especially once you get up to the x35 trim level. But probably a bigger cabin and since OP is tall might be nice. I just looked a bit on Car Gurus Price Trends and that's maybe not actually true about the prices, but to get the same price 5 series is only 1 year older than the 3 series. https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/price-trends/ OP, I'm sure you know this but the price of used cars has went up a ton due to new car supply issues. Maybe not the best time to buy a used car if you can avoid it... and I have to buy 2 right now. According to same link above a 2014 3 series or 2013 5 series average price is around $15k (can't filter by trim level), but have both went up $1.5k-2k from their low points around mid-May. $2k will get you roughly a year newer too, so you would have to buy a year older car now to get to your price point VS just 4 months ago. It's a bit hard to tell but some of the increases seem to be leveling off, so maybe another few months of flatish and then they will start to go back down again? Edit again: Sorry, I read it as $15k, not $12k, so knock a few years off of the above and you are probably roughly good.

Maybe, probably, I did something wrong but MOTHBALLS NEVER AGAIN! The S2000 is the first car I've had that I don't drive at all during the winter. So the first winter about three years ago I put mothballs under the front and back of the car, maybe a few in the engine bay. I did not touch them, they touched nothing on me, I wore gloves the entire time. I even left them in the little bags they come in. I went back inside, sat on the couch to watch some TV. I could still smell them, but I thought it was in my nose. No, it transferred onto my clothes I guess just through the air. It got into the couch which we had to clean. Then I washed my clothes separately from anything else. The next load of clothes we washed the smell also got into those. So we had to run an empty cleaning load through to clean the washer, wash those clothes again, run another empty load to clean the washer again. Finally all of the smell was out of our house and clothes. -

I will be building a larger garage at some point and putting a lift in so this has been in the back of my mind for a while. Does anyone have any thoughts on 2 post for working on the car, with wheel engaging adapters for (winter) storage? This is the best idea I can imagine for a solution that works well for working on the car, as well as storage. But I'm definitely open to others thoughts, especially those with more experience than me!
