  1. Here we have Geeto67 trying to debate the technology of a Chrysler product with a Chrysler engineer.

He's not wrong, but I don't think anyone would actually manually pull the data before and after buster drove it. Its all shown on the cluster/performance pages.

  2. maybe, but there are also cars that record telemetry in their ECMs. I don't know that dodge does it but a LI buddy of mine used to tune mini coopers and he showed me once where the ECU was recording how many times he jumped his car (I think it was based on wheel speed and some other sensor metric). Plenty have event recording for liability in accidents once a specific sensor reaches its threshold.

or maybe he just forgot to reset the GPS.

While this is true, I'd be surprised if the_buster was the_busted from someone attaching a scan tool before delivery. Probably much simpler than that.

  3. Are you saying a dealership/manufacturer can go through your data logs if you bring the car in under warranty for a broken component and deny your claim based on your driving history according to your data logs?

I think he's referring to the gauge cluster. It will keep a tally of your top speed, 0-60 times, and 1/4 mile. Its not tracked, downloaded, or sent to the cloud AFAIK. But it could piss off a customer to find someone abused their car, if you don't reset the cluster.

There is also a reaction timer. A drag tree shows up on the cluster.

  4. Who said anything about converting anyone or making friends? I have enough friends outside of this forum and I am not looking to convert anyone. I just like the entertainment of seeing you liberal clowns get your panties in a bunch and collude with each other to attack anyone who doesn't think like you.

No one is colluding against you.

  5. Just because I didn't mention it, doesn't mean I overlooked it. It would probably take me over a year to write out all of the ridiculous shit us tax payers pay for in regards to Politicians. I don't think ANY OF IT is okay.

You are objecting to presidents and first lady's getting secret service protection for life?

Dude, we get it, you don't think the government should spend money on anything. You even object to government spending on the interstate highway system, suggesting the car companies should pay for it (like they're the only ones that benefit from roads??). I just hope you realize your platform is out on the lunatic fringe and you're not going to win any friends/convert other people's beliefs in this forum.

  6. So who's paying for her security?

As a former first lady she gets secret service protection for life, regardless of any other role she made whole.

Why are you choosing to make a big deal about this, but not who is paying for Trump's family's protection while his wife and kid stayed in New York, or during his Mar-A-Lago trips? Or how the tax payers pay for the secret service to stay in rooms at Trump's resort? Or how the tax payers had to pay for secret service to 'buy tickets' to travel with Trump on his private plane during the campaign?

You want to take issue with Hillary getting free protection while she got paid to speak, but overlook Trump DIRECTLY PROFITING from the secret service. The tax payers have paid him millions.

    06.27.2017 , Auburn Hills, Mich.

When the new 840-horsepower^Dodge Challenger SRT Demon^raced down the drag strip to open the New York Auto Show in April, Dodge unleashed the ultimate street-to-strip car. Today, the brand is following up on its performance car mantra, introducing the new 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody, answering enthusiasts who have been clamoring for a factory-production Hellcat with even more grip.^^

    ^

“The new Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody completes our strongest Dodge muscle car lineup in history,” said^Tim Kuniskis, Head of Passenger Cars – Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT – FCA North America. “Our brand, engineering and design teams poured a ton of effort into making the new SRT Demon the world’s fastest quarter-mile production car, so now we’re leveraging that know-how, and some of those vital elements and transferring them to the new Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody for improved performance on the street and a bolder, more aggressive new look.”

    ^

With a starting U.S. Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $71,495 (including gas guzzler tax, excluding destination $1,095), the new Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody model features the same fender flares first shown on the SRT Demon. These wider fender flares add 3.5 inches to the SRT Hellcat’s overall width, covering the new 20 x 11-inch “Devil’s Rim” split-five spoke aluminum wheels, which ride on new, wider 305/35ZR20 Pirelli P-Zero tires with a new tread pattern. A new electric power steering (EPS) system with SRT Drive Modes adds new selectable steering tuning for the first time on a Hellcat model.

    ^

In addition to its wider, more menacing stance, this new Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody delivers improved lap times, lateral grip, acceleration and braking, compared with the already ferocious performance numbers of the Hellcat:

Road course lap time on a 1.7-mile track lowered by approximately 2 seconds per lap, approximately 13 car lengths after one lap¼ mile elapsed time (ET) improved by approximately .3 sec (10.9 ET in Widebody vs. 11.2 ET in standard Hellcat)Lateral skid pad grip increased by .04 g (.97 g in Widebody vs. .93 g in standard Hellcat)0-60 mph acceleration improved by .1 second (3.4 in Widebody vs. 3.5 in standard Hellcat)Top speed of 195 mph

    New EPS – a First for Hellcat^

The 2018 Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody features a new standard electric power steering (EPS) system – a first for Hellcat. The system uses SRT Drive Modes with selectable settings for Street (Auto), Sport and Track.

    ^

Not only does the EPS system improve handling performance, owners will also notice better steering feel and ease of turning efforts at parking lot speeds.

    ^

With EPS and SRT Drive Modes, drivers can tailor their experience by controlling horsepower, transmission shift speeds, steering, paddle shifters (automatic transmission only), traction and suspension. There is also a Custom setting lets the driver use individual preferences.

    ^

    Functional and Intimidating Exterior Design

With the new Widebody fender flares that add 3.5 inches to the overall width of the Challenger Hellcat, the Widebody model joins the Challenger SRT Demon as the widest Challengers ever.

    ^

The new flares are expertly integrated into the body design with concealed attachments to amplify the Challenger SRT Hellcat’s menacing stance, while making room for the new 20 x 11-inch “Devil’s Rim” split-five spoke aluminum wheels that ride on 305/35ZR20 Pirelli tires for improved performance while filling the wheel wells for a stronger planted appearance. The front side marker lights are styled to flow with the shape of the fender flares.

    ^

The 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody carries numerous exterior styling cues Dodge//SRT owners expect, such as:

Power-bulge aluminum hood with center intake and dual heat extractorsExclusive illuminated Air-Catcher headlamps that feed air directly into the air box and engine bay through the center of the parking lampsQuad projector headlamps give a unique detailed appearance, while the aggressive brow “chops” the upper portion of the lamp design exudes a sinister lookFront splitter (shared with Demon) and rear spoiler (from Hellcat) deliver responsive and balanced handling at high speedHellcat-exclusive new grille and fender badges, along with raised SRT Hellcat badge on the rear spoilerStandard Brembo brake system includes two-piece 15.4-inch rotors and six-piston front calipers provide outstanding heat management/thermal capacity and longevity

    Proven Supercharged Hellcat Performance^ ^

The 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody is powered by the 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V-8 with 707 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. torque and can be paired to either the Tremec six-speed manual or TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission.

    ^

The proven Hellcat HEMI engine features additional cooling measures including a low-temperature circuit with two air/coolant heat exchangers integrated into the supercharger housing. This setup is designed to keep air temperatures below 140 degrees Fahrenheit, under extreme ambient conditions, while enabling air flow of up to 30,000 liters per minute.

So effective is this feature that engine power will not be de-rated due to cooling demands after 20 minutes of hard driving on a road course at an ambient temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

    ^

Before the new SRT Demon V-8 engine was introduced, the supercharged Hellcat HEMI V-8 was the most powerful passenger-car engine ever produced by FCA US, which made the Challenger SRT Hellcat and Charger SRT Hellcat models the most powerful and fastest coupe and sedan ever. The new engine was also named to Ward’s 10 Best Engines list for 2015.

    ^

    Race-inspired, High-performance Interior

The cockpit of the Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody remains true to its performance-oriented design and execution with world-class materials; high-sill center console and driver-focused instrument panel with 200-mph speedometer; SRT performance leather-wrapped flat-bottom, heated steering wheel; standard SRT Laguna leather performance seats with SRT Hellcat logo, and new red Hellcat instrument panel badge.

    ^

SRT Performance Pages are accessible through the latest 8.4-inch touchscreen display media center with standard Uconnect 4C NAV system featuring performance improvements with faster startup time and enhanced processing power offering multi-touch gestures, vivid imagery, sharper graphics and the ability to support smartphone integrations.

    ^

The 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody will be available 15 exterior colors: B5 Blue (late availability), Billet Silver, Destroyer Grey, F8 Green (late availability), Go Mango, Granite Crystal, IndiGo Blue (late availability), Maximum Steel, Octane Red, Pitch Black, Plum Crazy (late availability), Redline Tri-Coat, TorRed, White Knuckle and Yellow Jacket.

    ^

Production of the 2018 Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody begins later this summer with deliveries to Dodge//SRT dealers in the third quarter.

  8. If the Govt isn't for profit, can you explain how Hillary has become worth tens of millions of dollars while in office?

They all do, on both sides of the isle. Check out Mitch McConnell's income. Just because politicians can be bought and work for their own profit doesn't mean the government itself is.

  9. Healthcare will get worse if the Government provides it, I promise.

Public Education is a failure. No explanation needed.

Public health is much more than just health care.

Charter schools are a disaster and are hurting our public education system. There are lots of places where public schools are very good, and the solution is not blowing up the system and turning it over to for-profit industry.

  10. IMO the Government is responsible for 3 things...

-Keeping us safe from foreign threat (Military and Defense)

-Enforcing law (particularly just violent crimes or crimes that endanger other citizens)

-Protect the constitutional rights of US Citizens

What else should the Government be responsible for, honestly? We should pay a tax to be protected but other than that, stay the fuck out of my life.

Infrastructure, energy, heath, education, environment, national security, defence, IMHO.

  11. Looks good, but was surprised about a few things; didn't know you could get Scat Pack wheels on anything but, and didn't know you could het Super Track Pack with the base radio. I thought Super Track Pack got you SRT Performance Pages on the 8.4" UConnect.

  12. Owners seem to love these things.

My neighboor has a Hellcat, and a 392...

They sound great with an exhaust!

They sound great with the stock exhaust too. Wait until you hear the Durango SRT. I drove one down to Columbus and back last month and loved it. The Hellcat and SRT Charger/Challenger have an active exhaust valve that opens at high throttle applications. The stock car is surprisingly loud.

  13. saw this on jalopnik:

no demon's wrecked yet, but I don't think they have been delivered. Considering the news was quick to report hellcats that were wrecked within hours of purchase (some with as little as 18 miles) I imagine we will hear about it.

No public deliveries yet. Order books just opened today. There are pre-production cars that have been delivered to HQ.

How many of these things are just going to be picked up by speculators and resold to enjoy all that juicy profit? Of the 3000 to be built how many will be out terrorizing the streets and strips versus only sitting at home or in storage to be rubbed on as an investment? Not much Dodge can do to change it, we appreciate the attempt though..

The first owner gets their name on the Demon Crate. This will hopefully deter people who resell for a quick buck, but I'm sure it will happen. It will just serve as a constant reminder that you're the second owner.

  15. Dodge doesn't want dealer markups, and is doing something about them. http://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/a10160467/dodge-challenger-srt-demon-allocations/

Glad to see us doing something about it, but I would have preferred something more like what Ford did with the latest GT. Some dealers were trying to get around the MSRP markup by charging separately for a place in line. Now a customer has a choice of either signing papers that says they paid MSRP or ratting out the dealer and never getting the car.

  16. nobody likes a sore loser.

This is your thread, these are the things you want to discuss...you are really going to get all butt hurt because someone points out something you are actually doing? I thought you were made of stronger stuff.

Point to the part of this sentence that is actually about the environment and not just you questioning the integrity of people you don't know:

"I wouldn't do what the rich billionaire does because I have integrity and he doesn't" is what this translates to. Do you somehow not agree?

Probably because I don't read Breitbart. I only saw this because I read jalopnik and they cross promote articles, and I used to live in Louisiana. Higgins life story is a model for how a fanatical populist nutjob can fail his way into congress.

I don't read Breitbart either, but it made news (and fake news) pages. They said it on Twitter, at least one of them was actually fired for it, although she had said stuff like this in the past with no recourse.

You also missed the 2 Breitbart reporters calling for modern crusades.

  18. Radar/LIDAR are measuring the variable distance from the target by sending out a signal and receiving it back. VASCAR the distance of fixed and is measured by visual observation. Radar and LIDAR both give speed measurements in real time.

I suppose if you want to get fancy LIDAR and the human eye are using the same science of light refraction, but then you are talking about precision made lenses that go through a QC check for consistency in the LIDAR vs the human eye which as we both know isn't as precise as we would like it (otherwise nobody would need glasses).

Your point is that they are using the same equation (not the same science, the same math) but with different variables, and in theory that is absolutely true - VASCAR is measuring time and calculating speed, LIDAR/Radar is measuring the change in distance within very short fixed time intervals. In application the output in LIDAR appears as real time speed and is very precise, the visual observation and stopwatch method? Not so much.

It also becomes more accurate the slower the target is going, and less accurate the faster it is going. But the problem here isn't just mathematical, it's consistency. Angle of observation, officer continuous visual observation, altitude, vehicle size, etc...these are all added factors that aren't compensated for and you don't have to even worry about with a fixed point land based measuring system like Radar/LIDAR.

Aircraft for traffic enforcement against tailgaters, people swerving recklessly, things like that, I'm all for it. For speed measurement, too many variables and most of them human for it to be considered accurate for the kind of work being done, esp when LIDAR is both cheaper and more accurate.

Radar can measure velocity through Doppler, not just distance over time.

That is a lot more engineered than I thought it would be. I figured...dodge...they just slap a plastic flare on there and call it a day.

    That's the one.

Yeah, it's not just a bolt on flare.
