I think a lot of the concern around entitlements is focused on the lazy not the disabled or elderly that would if they could put forth efforts. There's a skill and will in all of us and those that lack will are the point of contention for many.
you're point may be a fair and true one Kerry but until no jobs are available it doesn't mean the subject above isn't also correct and worthy of a point. there are millions of decent paying jobs out there and available for blue collar workers. I won't even call those "opportunity" in America as that is something different, these are just plain and simple decent paying jobs that lots of people make a choice either not to take or choose not to improve themselves enough to take them. If they can't get to the job then move. it's not an outrageous comment or idea.
again, I'll disagree to a large extent. this country is absofuckinglutely the land of opportunity. just ask any of the immigrants who steam-roll over the millions I'm referencing above who are the free-loaders of America. These immigrants go out and make shit happen and get jobs and make it work. It's time we demand that same expectation of drive and will from everyone.
not sit around and complain or whine. the above is an excuse. they are choosing to not do a lot of things to maintain the easy-button solution. IMO that's not acceptable in today's world any longer.
for many it is not a trap and allowing this excuse to cover for those that are legit needs to end. there are plenty of poor lazy and no-will people out there and there's tons and tons of scammers milking the system. I agree with your point on efficiency but it's time to close up all the gaps of inefficiencies vs tossing more of my hard earned money at the issue. it's time to fix the leaky bucket and stop turning the faucet on more.
like your point above about a trap, it's partially true and lots of excuses. it's time to end the BS about slavery impact and discrimination, etc. there are now more than ever plenty of proven people both American born and immigrants just off the boat or plane that prove the system works for those that try. no one is expecting it to work for everyone as not every does get a trophy in life.
let's end the BS about the this. stop arguing that people are talking about everyone being in that boat. you and he and everyone knows that's not true. flip side however is there is a ton of waste and yes poor people that are getting benefits that either shouldn't or need a deep hard kick in the ass with a big middle finger saying NO MORE that are the problem in this country.
I have a neighbor who is now truly in a position of need. Long story short, 37 years married, never worked because hubby was awesome and had a great job but more importantly, she's more or less disabled due to a car accident years ago. No kids, no family, never was wealthy and now he's dead. She's got maybe $100k to her name plus a house and two cars she owns. Not poor but in bad shape as there's really no income and still expenses. She's in need and I think 100% worth helping.
Contrast that with a person I have employed at our company making $16/hr. that is continues to breed (now has 4 kids) as a single mom, who knows how many dads for those kids, that works the FMLA system, etc. and is a real PIA that everyone wishes we could just fire and move on but they are making that a tough road for many reasons. It will happen but until then it's a drain. Sorry, but no, her life choices are vastly different than my neighbor above and the time has to come to where she is told to fuck off and that everyone in society around her is done supporting her.
Those are the people bstowers and many others are done having to deal with and rightly so.
How do you implement a system that weeds out the "lazy" from the people who are actually deserving whole reducing cost and not growing government?
It's an honest question, because in other similar instances, like mandatory drug testing for welfare recipients, have cost the government more money and require more personnel to implement.

Def "tough love" but I realized something else while I was reading your comment.
Higher education, Sometimes in undergraduate but almost always in the post graduate level, has very small tolerance for any notion that can't be defended with hard sources. If you are going to make an argument or state your opinion you have to be ready to explain how you got to the conclusion and address the critical opposition. When you defend your PhD you have to defend your choices and sources that led to your conclusion as well as defend from the critics of your sources. It has no patience if you are unable to do so and it has no interest in how much your ego is tied to your opinion and it does this in a very public way. In Law School the Socratic Method of answering questions adds a broader audience and teaches in part through humiliation.
Most people who haven't gone through this aren't equipped to handle this or separate the argument from themselves. They also don't understand that if you put your opinion out therein conversation with someone who has been through this teaching method you better have the knowledge to back it up and or say "i don't know" without feeling superior or inferior. Thus the gap widens between those with formal educational training and those who do not . I can understand how being faced with this people can feel stupid of insulted, but I, like many, don't know how to address it.
How do you explain to the group that advocates for holding people responsible for their actions that you are holding them responsible for their statements and they are not taking responsibility by blaming intellectuals for their own lack of knowledge and feelings of embarrassment? How do you further explain to them that people like Rush Limbaugh, Alex Jones, Steve Bannon, and Donald Trump are there to exploit this feeling by reinforcing their ignorance?
Yeah, I get that.
My comment was also a bit tongue-in-cheek by suggesting he should be motivated by your comments to bootstrap himself out of "intellectual poverty."

Well we're just going to keep going around in circles here. You continue to call me dumb and ignorant because I don't see your point of view from a socialist mentality. That's exactly what's wrong with Liberals today. They refuse to understand there are different viewpoints and are quick to call everyone dumb or ignorant that doesn't think the way they do. You know this is true. That is why Trump won. Everyone got sick of people like yourself. You say people in their 20s don't have the knowledge and that might be true, what's worse is someone like yourself who does have the knowledge but still thinks the way a 21 year old liberal college student does. Get off your high horse.
I didn't read his message this way at all, but I do think he's giving you some intellectual "tough love" in the hopes that you'll get motivated, bootstrap yourself and read more into the issues you seem interested in understanding deeper. There is a wealth of information out there, ready for the taking.

who doesn't have access to contraception? condoms are readily available and costs are not an issue. if people honestly can't afford or manage their own contraception and it's just too much to ask then perhaps they should be forced to be sterilized as we'll only be promoting the breeding of more dumb nuts.
I disagree. If an employer such as a church or private company doesn't wish to offer it, they shouldn't be forced to do so. Not every employer offers all coverages. There are options the employee or potential employee can seek out their needs no different than anything else.
Why an employer would even be made aware of ones personal life such as birth control use is beyond me.
That's great rhetoric, but like Jeff Sessions's belief that DARE was successful at deterring drug use, or mandatory minimum sentences deter crime, or the rest of theTrump administrations belief that automation/robotics won't affect the American job market for 50-100 years, or that climate change isn't real, or that trickle-down economics work, all of this is contrary to what the facts actually prove. But facts don't matter anymore...

^^ all that is still the responsibility of people, not those around them. sex and sex ed is pretty basic stuff and if grown adults can't teach their kids about it deep enough to prevent such issues or adults themselves can't figure it out, then we have a problem that goes back the 200+ years sex education has been a part of our school system. That's sad really.
It's time we as a society hold people to better expectations that constantly having them blame others for their problems or to have other bail them out on poor life choices. YMMV, but I choose to encourage raising of the bar vs lowering it.
Holding people accountable for their actions sounds great, but when it comes to sex and pregnancy it just doesn't work. That child will become the burden of the state and cost way more in the long run. To me this just sounds like more of the stereotypical Republican ideal of caring about the birth of a child but nothing about the quality of life (or medical care) it will have afterwards.
Access to contraception prevents unwanted pregnancy, prevents abortion, reduces to burden on the state (ultimately saving money), yet you're completely against it? To me, this is part of basic care that should be available to all and your employer shouldn't be able to fire you over your use of birth control.

What is the fact something like 5% of the people make up 50% of the total cost of healthcare.
See attached image.
A major problem in healthcare spending is the fact that we dump INSANE amounts of money and resources into trying to fix people who can't be fixed. It's hard to explain to families that their loved one is fucked. No, we've got to drag it out to the bitter end to the point that fate overrides our ability to counteract it.This is a slippery slope, because someone with a condition that can be managed or treated with lifelong medicine can live a long, normal, relatively healthy life (diabetes, for example...heck even AIDS is treatable now) but it will be costly.
On the flip side you have terminal conditions where treatment is extending life. This could be by years, months, or days and it's controversial as to where you draw the line. Use the current case in UK as an example. The courts ruled that the plug should be pulled but the parents don't want to give up, and you have conservatives crying about death panels, yet in their plan this child wouldn't even have received this care in the first place. On the other hand, my friend lived for 4 years after he was diagnosed with aggressive brain cancer. This was time with his kids that he would have never had otherwise and I see this treatment as worthwhile, even though it was expensive. The more we treat terminal cases, the more we learn, and maybe someday it won't be terminal anymore.

boils down to personal responsibility man. parents need to parent and teach their kids and actually be involved in their lives. sex education and prevention isn't a difficult concept.
Easier said than done and proven not to work. Since Texas slashed family planning funding and defunded Planned Parenthood teen pregnancy has gone up 3.4% and teen abortions increased 3.1%. In one county alone abortion rose 191% in the two years following the funding cuts. Access to contraception prevents unwanted pregnancies and abortions. Abortion and teen pregnancy rates are currently at their lowest and access to contraception is a major contributor to that.

And in the only political news that matters, Kid Rock is running for office in Michigan.
So in theory, we could have Kid Rock and Donald Trump both holding public office at the same time.
What amazing times we live in...
There is ralk that its a publicity stunt to help launch his new album, which is politically themed. One can only hope...

How about keep your fucking legs closed/dick in your pants if you can't handle what comes as a result of that?
Ah, yes! Because abstinence has been proven to work!
Keep in mind too, there are religious right wing believers that think birth control pills are the same as abortion, which is another reason they want Planned Parenthood defunded.

Kerry, what is one of the biggest concerns right now in America in regards to healthy individuals? I will give you a hint, it involves a scale. You keep talking about how everyone should have "equal" care but not everyone should pay "equal"? Why should a 450lb woman who smokes be given the same healthcare and cost as a woman who maintains a healthy weight and works out 5 times a week? In before you create an argument based on the lowest common denominator because that's what socialists do.
The insurance company we use at work already does this. People who have better biometric screening results or participate in healthy activities get a credit on their monthly premiums. You pay more if you smoke too.
The larger issue (in my opinion) is how do we guarantee ourselves (and others) quality, long term care in case of disease, terminal illness/condition, severe injury, etc. In the past, when something bad happened to you insurance would drop you, you'd be stuck with exorbitant costs, and most likely file for bankruptcy. With ACA they cannot do that and we all end up paying more as a result.
If I have a child that's born with a lifelong condition, that is manageable with care, should that spell certain financial ruin for my family, or should he/she be denied health insurance for life? If I get cancer tomorrow should I have to choose between treatment and bankrupting my family? In some cases hospitals won't even treat the patient UNLESS they have insurance, no matter how much cash they have.

Obamacare flaws...
Average Obamacare rates went up 22% across the board and a lot more for a lot of middle class families.
Prices went up, but the solution is not to blow up the system and give massive tax cuts to the rich, while raising rates even more on the middle class.
If you couldn't afford to have health insurance to begin with, guess what? Here's a hefty fine for you on top of your taxes! The individual mandate is an important provision for keeping costs down. If only sick people pay into the system premiums will skyrocket/it would be unaffordable. For the same reason car insurance companies need good, accident free drivers, health insurance companies need healthy people to pay into the system.
The deficit has increased by over $1 trillion under Obamacare
In 2016 the deficit totaled $590 billion. That's not $1 trillion, and even if it was, it's not all Obamacare. The national debt went up $1.4 trillion in 2016, and $75 billion of that was "because payments to Social Security, Medicare, and Affordable Care Act recipients along with the government's civilian and military retirees were greater during this time frame than FICA and other tax collections." So yea, even $75 billion isn't completely from Obamacare alone.
Doctors and medical providers often complain about losing more money due to Obamacare (I think we've had a few in this thread actually). They are often forced to take in patients who are low income who don't pay a dime and often don't show up to their appointments because why do they care? They're not paying for it.
Pretty sure this was Kirk talking about Medicare patients, not specifically Obamacare.
I'm not saying Obamacare is perfect, but let's work with the real facts. The major problem with healthcare is cost, which exists with or without Obamacare.

Also, not only is this email completely damning to Trump Jr., and more, but IMHO this development will completely kill the Trumpcare bill. Political support for Trump within his own party was already starting to wane over the 4th (with several speaking out negatively about the bill), and now even fewer will want to be associated with his agenda.

Trump supporters will focus on the attorney NOT being a "foreign national", or that no material information was exchanged.
The fact that T Jr. tweeted the exchange?
http://i0.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/000/559/963/385.gif
What shocks me is that he only tweeted them so he could beat the NYT to the punch. But now that admits to his base that what the NYT is reporting is legit, and he can't cry "fake news."

you know, I never really understood that whole meme/gif. All someone did is post the CNN logo over Vince McMahon's face. It isn't like our current president didn't once appear as a heel (or himself) on WWE. It's actually kind of fitting.
Literally nobody got the irony that because it was an original WWE clip, much like everything else in the the current president's life even his violence is fake. [emoji14]
you done effed up when the guy who created the meme calls your judgement into question for re-tweeting it:
http://www.cnn.com/2017/07/04/politics/kfile-reddit-user-trump-tweet/index.html
Part of his apology is also over the other stuff he has posted to Reddit, like pictures of all CNN reporters and calling out Jewish ones by putting a star of David next to them. The threats to reporters lives after Trump posted that GIF is sickening.

I hear you. I would agree with you, in that if the parents don't step up their game after the divorce, the kids are in a difficult spot. I couldn't focus on my kids prior to being divorced because I couldn't get over my ex's indiscretions, amongst other things. I was also a little too focused on career/etc, and neglected the kids (because she was the stay at home mom) as well as neglected my personal health. my ex was focused on money and possessions.
I had to make major changes after the divorce.
in terms of repercussions for her, she literally lost all of her friends. most of them came up to me after the divorce and apologized for initially siding with her---she told them the divorce was because I was abusive and treated her as an object, etc. once they found out exactly what I put up with, they disowned her. she has a few acquaintances, and her bf has some buddies, but that's about it. her parents supported her, because that's what parents do. I don't think they agreed with what she did, and I know her mom realizes her daughter is a hot mess. she still sends me cards for birthdays, Christmas, fathers day, etc. and I'm still very friendly with her when she visits. her dad is a douchebag.
my family basically hates her, and admitted to me later that they never really liked her. at the low point of my divorce, 3 months in, I went home to ohio from Wisconsin for easter. many of my family members just found out I was getting a divorce. at easter dinner, my dad stood up and gave a 5 minute speech (I won't go into the details, but it was awesome). I was totally distraught, but all 25 people at the dinner table stood up and told me I had their full support, and they had never really liked her. basically a standing ovation. it was a lifechanging moment for me. not that it was to be celebrated, but it was important to have all my family members in one spot have my back.
but I would agree with you that infidelity, is about the only deal-breaker for me.
Kirk, thanks you for sharing. Maybe I missed it, but how old were your kids when the divorce began?

Great minds think alike. I've been eyeing a DG SCat Pack 392 SRT manual with the AAR hood for some time.
Nice Car!
You mean the T/A? Or the stock SRT392 hood? They're basically the same but the T/A has hood pins. The Scat Pack has the R/T hood.

Gm has this same problem with yukons, Tahoe, and suburbans....that's why they ship them with these transport steel wheels that now the sport truck guys go nuts for.
It may also help with height. Someone once told me that the NAV antenna is offset on the Escalade/Yukon/etc is because putting it in the middle of the roof would put them over height to shipping.

Nissan GTR's have an on-board black box, which can do this. yep. for sure. my GTR was full bolt ons when I broke the trans. I took it to Nissan dealer anyways to see if they would fix it under warranty. aside from the mods, which they were cool about---they said switch it back to stock and we will do it if the black box checks out. the black box gets sent to Nissan in japan. they told the dealership "no fucking way", after seeing the number of launches that were done, and the fact the car had about 10 blasts from 55-110mph immediately before breaking. whoops.
SRT's are made to be abused. They used to run 24 hours at Nelson Ledges as a validation test, changing nothing but brakes/fluids at scheduled intervals. Not sure where they run it since Nelson closed.
Obviously modifications will be handled much the same, but shouldn't care about actual racing or how many times you launch the car.

This is minor compared to some of his other twitter posts prior to being president, my favorite exposure of him as a sub par human being is this one regarding Arianna Huffington from 2012 (my second favorite is the one about Megyn Kelly from Jan 2016):
Directed at those who voted for trump and not you specifically clay: You knew this was what you were signing up for when you voted for him. You were willing to overlook this pattern of misogynistic behavior because why? you didn't want more of the same career politicians? I don't buy "corrupt" because DT is turning out to be more corrupt than anybody in the history of the role...so really is this what you wanted more than literally anything else? I have to imagine there is a ton of buyer's remorse in the trump vote.
At the end of the day twitter is a distraction from the fact that he is a shitty advocate of the people of this country. He has no public policy experience, his people have no public policy experience, and it shows by the continuous raging dumpster fire that is the current legislative environment. The Republicans own congress at this moment and they aren't able to bowl everything over because he is crippling them. Personally I don't mind because I like it when there is bi-partisan collaboration and compromise and anything that causes that is a positive in my book - even if it is caused by an incompetent sexist creep, but the current combative environment isn't good for America on the whole.
I used to feel that way, but honestly I want him on it more now...why?
It hurts him, but that's just schadenfreude. Politically it hurts Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham, Reince Prebius, and those extreme republicans who are enabling this garbage. It is driving the moderate Republicans toward the democrats and lifting the real republican extremists right to the top where they become visible. Even John McCain is being hurt by this because he is hedging and compromised his once great reputation for integrity.
MY wish and hope is that his tweets cause the people to vote those enablers out of office and clear the far right extremists and party loyalists from the republican party so it can go back to being a functioning government and a party that actually advocates for all but a small niche group of Americans.
This is also nothing compared to his ogling of the Irish journalist yesterday

I keep forgetting you can get a Hellcat with a stick shift.
For all the crap I give FCA for their quality, props to them for still serving car enthusiasts with a proper manual transmission for 2018.
The widebody is really growing on me. I think the bigger diameter wheels help the look for me, and the difference in track time is impressive. The widebody Hellcat should be a better street car than a Demon, and more suited to a twisty back road or road course. I will wait for reviews to see how grippy the Pirelli's are, but with a capable tire it should perform pretty well. The Demon will out brake a Viper ACR (60-0 in 97 feet) and pull 1G on the skidpad.
The widebody Hellcat is available in a manual and has the bigger Brembo package.
SRT Demon 4-piston Brembo brake setup up front...
Up front are Brembo 4- piston 14.2 x 1.26 (360 x 32.0) 2-piece, vented and slotted brakes, and in the rear are Brembo's 13.8 x 1.10 (350 x 28) vented and slotted disc brakes. Standard on all SRT Demons.
SRT HELLCAT 6-piston Brembo brake setup up front...
Standard on SRT HELLCAT widebody are Brembo brake system which includes two-piece 15.4-inch rotors and six-piston front calipers provide outstanding heat management/thermal capacity and longevity.

Viper to reclaim "The Ring"
in Passing Lane
Posted
Don't forget the reconfiguration of the track, an extra ~45 hp of the GenV, and different gearing, plus improved tires. In the previous record run he was bouncing off the rev limiter in places because the car wasn't geared very well for that track. There were simulations done with different gearing at the time that showed improvements.
