Tesla Dealers about to be outlawed in Ohio
zeitgeist57 replied to Gergwheel1647545492's topic in Passing Lane
http://jalopnik.com/ohio-senator-behind-new-anti-tesla-bill-gets-paid-real-1522401125 No surprises what's driving this legislation. Just ticks me off that of all the things we need to be looking at that this is a major concern... -
Get photos... ...of the driver, not the car. :gabe:

We've achieved fusion power, even if just barely
zeitgeist57 replied to copperhead's topic in Dumpster
I've been hearing on PopSci and PopMechanix for years about bountiful resources on the Moon and asteroids. There are active projects to mine extraterrestrial bodies...would love to see that become a viable industry in my lifetime as well. Would be intadesting to have the Moon be a "pit stop" for interplanetary travel. I realize launches to planets like Mars have to be timed for optimum positioning of both the Earth and target planet, but having the Moon be a source for fuel and possibly food/water - as well as a rapidly-revolving launch pad - would be neat to see. Sounds like our science/engineering is there, but the economic viability is not: hugely cost-prohibitive at this time. -
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Weld-On-Triangulated-4-Link-Kit-Rear-brackets-2600-Bags-Air-Ride-Suspension-/121254469889#ht_3588wt_1003 Cleetus, my 1982 Ford F100, is a great little 2WD DD/suburban beater. I cut the front springs and flipped the rear leaf spring shackle to drop it a bit, and it's still ridden fine except from a driveshaft vibration from an uncorrected pinion angle. However, I unfortunately found out that the rear leaf spring eyes were both cracked. About 6 years ago, I totally rebuilt Cleetus II's (1985 Chevy C10 Heavy-Half) rear suspension with new leaf springs and a totally redone axle with a Detroit True-Trac that I rebuilt myself. I remember the leaf springs being relatively cheap, but the whole job cost me over $600 in parts. Now, in looking at '80-'86 F100/150 springs, it's several hundo just for the spring packs! I have a Harbor Freight welder and I've got some experience with shade-tree projects. Combined with my desire to keep the truck low but street-driveable (with the occasional yard waste haul) I'm thinking that even a generic 4-link kit would be better than cracked springs, plus I would naturally have a chance to correct the pinion angle. With air-bags and their adjustability to boot, I'm liking this project. Just curious as to people's thoughts, or if anyone's done this sort of project (or knows a friend/family member that has as well). As a car guy I fully appreciate the negative stigma of "Under Konstruction" S10s scraping bumper in Sawmill parking lots, but those of you that know me understand I'm a 0-FKS-GIVEN "heightsbilly" that enjoys cheap auto projects to compliment my suburban existence. I'm not able to think of a better way to both fix and update a worn-out old leaf spring setup. FYI, I'll be keeping this truck for a looooooooong time. Thanks!

Think about the declining subscription rate in cable...then, think about DSL and satellite competitors. Now, think about Google Fiber, and other areas of new infrastructure being developed around fiber optic transmission. Let alone improvements being made in cell-phone transmission. "Cable" is a dying form of telecommunication, I say. Will still be here for the next couple of decades, but TWC is getting out while the getting is good.

Will there be a Short Bus? :gabe: It's been a long time since I was the top of that heap in my '01 Maxima, but I'd be happy to list Cleetus...

Funny Story: In Naples, my wife went to one of the Comcast stores to exchange our box for a DVR unit. I waited outside; sure as shit wasn't waiting in line during my precious time in FL. Guy in a pimpity Maserati GranTurismo 'vert ($140k sticker) drives up and opens up the door. I could see the customer service line still was 8+ deep. He looks at the line and looks back at his car. He grumbles and gets in line. Moral of the story: EVERYONE WAITS IN LINE FOR COMCAST I will take this opportunity to remind people that Wow is good stuff.

In the advice column I say emphatically GO WITH YOUR GUT. Every decent dad I know goes by what he thinks is wrong/right, not what the wife says or what Oprah or a fucking book suggests. When in doubt, ask family or close friends for advice, but short of leaving the carseat under Elliot's tires, scalding water, poisons or forks in electrical outlets, everything else will be a learning experience.

Two thoughts... - Be murdered by Jesus? ohtheironing.jpg - Arturo is the oldest-looking 32-year old I've ever seen.

Congrats, Randy! My wife was the same way: wanted natural but after 26 hrs of labor the C-section was needed. Amazing how quickly the c-section happens after more than a day of labor!

Love that kids' reaction, hoping the car doesn't have front airbags. Would like to see a kid that young have a little better head/neck support.

So, my thoughts... If you don't like what you do now, you probably won't like it in the future. I wouldn't want to sell your experience to an interviewer if you hated it. Therefore, I would focus on going back to school as a clean slate, you'll want a degree in a field that you'll like. Do you want to do something hands-on? Are you good at math? Engineers make a good bit of money...maybe become an apprentice for a tradesman? Like talking to people? Maybe look at sales. I guess as I type this out I'm realizing that this is all a waste of time until you (or someone who REALLY knows you well) figure out what you're good at and focus on building a career (and poss going back to school) around it... Every job is going to suck at times...you NEED to love what you do to survive long enough to be successful.

Paul, what do YOU want to do with your career? What are some of your strengths? It's good to get other people's input but I sense your thoughts for this thread are rooted in looking at a "menu" of what others do and you wanting to do something similar. You should figure out your strengths and weaknesses and what you like to do. Went to college wanting to do sales: figure it's the best way to work with people and make money doing it. Been in banking my entire career and love it. Started out doing shitwork and retail banking sucks, but always been a team-player and client-facing and that helps.

If you're shooting for a warm-weather month, North Bank Park is a very nice venue. Shelter house for festivities, beautiful vista of downtown Columbus. Not sure how riverfront is looking now that they demolished the dams and lowered the level, but I've seen a couple weddings there and it looked like a great place. An old-school place downtown was the Athaenum (spelling?) We looked at that for our wedding as well.

Barely noticed there was an engine in the second pic...:masturboy: From the article: According to Gavin, the engine is designed to be flexible enough to use in pleasure boating at around 1,400 horsepower for up 400 hours between scheduled maintenance, or it could be turborcharged with a pair of 122mm turbos (10 pounds of boost) to make 2,400 horsepower for about 200 hours for poker runs and other spirited adventures. Both those power numbers are on 87 octane fuel. Jumping up to 25 pounds of boost on race gas could elevate the power levels beyond 3,600 horsepower. And 50 pounds of boost could result in over 5,000 horsepower. For steady state running, recommended rpm will be in the 8,500 to 9,000 range. But an all-out drag version could spin up to 14,000 rpm. Dayam.
