Well the problem is that there are like 3 Cottman Transmission places around Columbus, but the guy who was in charge of the one we went to said his sons run the other ones around Columbus -- so it probably wouldn't be in our best interest to go to those. You have a point though, it might be worth taking the complaint corporate. I'm definitely putting this up on the Better Business Bureau though -- I already sent them an E-Mail last night regarding the problem. Do you guys think it would be worth it to take it to Cottman Corporate (they've been around a while, and are a pretty big chain) -- or would I be wasting my time you think? Thanks for the replies fellas.

Yeah it's off of like Worthington Loop something or other. Worthington Galena is quite familiar also. I only went in the first time when they 'fixed' transmission the first time. The guy wasn't very polite that time either...ugh.

P.S. I just want to clarify this is the Cottman Transmissions in Worthington.

Brent I wish you had been right, but unfortunately it was the opposite. She headed out there with her dad this afternoon to get the car. They immediately proceeded to give her and her dad the run around. They tried blaming it on the frame, alignment, loose axle, you name it. They didn't find out until later that her dad works for Honda and builds these things for a living. He told them straight up everything looked fine and he would be taking it to a dealership and a few other places to get their story checked out. He also said half the work the invoice said had been done did not look like it had been done. So basically the transmission looks like it failed the second time because of the quality of their labor, or rather the lack thereof. Tami also told me the guy was very rude and seemed irritated that she and her dad were even there. He was very unprofessional and was clearly getting upset when her dad asked for the flashlight from one of the techs there and started checking things out under the car and began telling them that things weren't off like they said they were. Clearly they were just trying to blame it on things to avoid having to cover it or replace it. It needs a new tranny but they just put fluid back in it and sent her on her way. So in any case I wanted to make sure you guys were aware of the type of work this place does. I will be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau this evening. Avoid this place at all costs -- she lost over $3k at this place and has a barely functional transmission and will probably end up having to bite the bullet and a get new one installed by a real professional in the near future while in the mean time doesn't feel comfortable driving the car as it could give out at any point.

Rosewill is actually Newegg's personal brand of card. I would imagine they will be more likely to RMA it for you than another brand since it's 'their' brand.
-
Yeah right now it's not looking too good. The guy hung up on us a couple times today and now is trying to blame the frame, saying it's bent and that she needs to take it to a frame specialist. My question would be though is if the frame was bent originally and you already tried pounding it out, why didn't you just tell us originally to have the frame fixed before working on the transmission? Looking pretty shady at this point. I'm glad her dad is taking her in there today as he's a lot calmer than I am. He was going to be taking his Vette in for some tranny work, not now. Everybody in the family knows this story as well as everyone at work now so hopefully we can atleast save some people the trouble we're going through. I'll let you guys know the final outcome since we're supposed to get the car today.
-
Yep if you rule out the possibility of it being the monitor or the mainboard, then it sounds like you just got a bad egg out of the dozen. You might think about calling Newegg if anything just to ask if they would RMA it for you. They've been known to go out of their way for customers in the past.

Hmm. Their work has a 12 month, 12,000 mile warranty, but you just never know when a company is going to try to worm their way through a hole you didn't catch. I was just curious if anyone's had good or bad experiences with him. This is the one in Worthington. I'll let you all know how it turns out so that in the event of a bad turn out you will all know to avoid the place.

Girlfriend had some tranny work done about 6 weeks ago. Her transmission totally went out on her and Cottman went through and rebuilt the transmission. Said the axles had been bad and rebuilt one, and replaced another one. After the work was done she got the car and everything was pretty much okay for a while. Went back after 2 weeks or so for a checkup and they said everything was good. Well today she went out to drive the car and the same bad shit happened again where the tranny would just cause the motor to rev, so she pulled it back in the driveway and said there was tranny fluid leaking again. So we're leaving them a message tonight and towing the car tomorrow (probably) so I was wondering if anyone here has had any trouble? Should I expect them to give us a hard time?

Oh you can get by on a gig. But when I play a game I don't like to just get by. When I first got FEAR and had 1 gig, I had choppiness all over the place from the harddrive constantly swapping files. Upgraded to 2 gigs for not really a whole lot of $$ and it couldn't be smoother now. No game ever forces the harddrive to access. I almost never see the HDD light even flicker with anything anymore. So yes, you could get by with 1-1.5 gigs. But opt for doing better than that

Doesn't look like anything other than the brand. I'm sure each one probably has a different Retail package (software that comes with the card). And after pulling up the entire list of 7800 GTs on Newegg, this is actually the cheapest one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814127190 Although EVGA is a really good brand so you're safe to stick with them. Check out the Retail package on all of them and see which one you like better as Newegg will warranty the card for the first 30 days no matter what.

$275 actually after the rebate. Helluva deal for the performance. I mean don't get me wrong, I'd love to see you upgrade your processor also to maximize on to FULLY utilize the new video card's power but I know you don't want to spend the $$ on it right now. But yeah, that's what I would do with the $$ right now if I had your system.
-
It has 256MB. Hang on I'll link you. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130247

Okay by looking at your stuff you will benefit greatly by just upgrading the video card. RAM is fine (you need 2+ gigs in today's games to fully enjoy them). Your processor is definitely a little outdated and WILL bottleneck a newer video card, BUT you will see better improvement from upgrading ONLY the video card rather than ONLY the CPU. If you can afford it, upgrade to an Athlon 64 as they ARE the better gaming processors AND a new video card. What is your video card budget? I know the 7800 GT is a well priced card (around $300) which will significantly out perform the card you have now.
-
I tell you what man, send me your entire system specs. Mainboard, CPU, Video Card (exact model) & AGP or PCI-E, RAM type (brand, how many sticks, size, etc.) and power supply and I'll tell you the best bang for the buck upgrade that will be easiest on your wallet and will increase your gaming experience the most.
-
Well the deal with the Athlon 64's -- I currently have a 3700+ San Diego which is pretty nice for a single core cpu. However if you're freshly upgrading I'd hate to see you get anything other than an X2 with two cores. Mainboard is completley up to you. I'm guessing you meant X800 XT instead of ST? If so, you're fine for atleast a while longer. I have an X800 XT AIW myself and it plays FEAR on my system with AA/AF enabled, soft shadows enabled, everything on maximum with no lag. Good luck to ya.

Alright well thanks for the responses fellas. I really appreciate it.

Lol no. I've never met her husband so I don't know if he's a freak that will get jealous or not because another guy is writing her a letter. I dated her for like 3 weeks in high school then chose another girl over her (bad move), but I always wanted to stay friends and talk, which we did, but after high school she moved away so I always wanted to say hi. Anyway her name is Rachel Melcher. She went to Gahanna Lincoln with me. Not sure where she went to college, or if she even went at all. Maybe someone here knows her -- she was pretty outgoing. In any case thanks for the responses fellas -- it's much appreciated.

A couple weeks ago I posted a question about how to find someone that you hadn't seen in a while and didn't know the whereabouts of. Someone posted zabasearch.com. And it worked. I found my friend's address, or atleast an address that's 95% likely to be hers. BUT -- she's married. This makes it pretty hard to try to initiate a conversation by just showing up at the girl's house to say hi or sending her a letter from someone she hasn't seen for 5-6 years (I don't exactly want to cause her any marital "unsmoothness")-- I've been trying to find a working E-Mail address for her and have failed. Every site I find wants to charge you $ for any kind of information and every site that DOES claim to have information won't guarantee that it has the E-Mail address I want as I don't care about her phone# or address since I don't think I should contact her in that way. I was wondering if any of you knew better than I of how to find her E-Mail address? I figure someone out there probably has done it and knows a better course than the one I've taken. Thanks a lot for any insight you may have as it is much appreciated.

Sounds good. We'll have to wait and see what happens.

Street Pilot: That thing works great. Thanks bud.

Okay thanks a lot fellas. I'll check out myspace.com

What is the best way to locate someone from high school? I had a friend my senior year that moved away and I believe got married and I always wondered how she was doing but had absolutely no way to contact her. Just wondering if any of you guys knew how to solve that? Thanks.

Great game. Go bucks!

Thanks fellas, both of you, for such quick and helpful responses.
