  1. description = fail think of rotors as modules, you have a rotor and a housing, and then the apex seals that are like a headgasket for a piston motor, they seal the outside rotor edges to the housing... now picture four housings stacked one behind each other, 4 rotors interconnected via outputshaft...
  2. and i respect that. i never said there wasnt fast or impresive i4s. hell 80d f1 was dishing out 1500hp at 50-60psi from 1.5l, reving 10k..on shit iso-octane,100 i4 has good advantages (pent roof chambers, dohc, most made with FI in mind), but apply those same advantages to a v8.... one basic engineering concept is sizing a piston engine for its application. this thread was originally about i8 vs b8, then it became about engines in their respective chassis, then people who build and race i4s are now taking it to personal levels.... the simpliest way i can say it this, pressure in the cylinder (bmep) makes power. bmep on an evo VIII is 24.x bar, compared to an ls2 which clocks in at 11.x bar. both make around the same power but as you can see, the lsx has half the pressure... think about this when the power is doubled, tripled, etc... u know the evo/sti/dsm platforms are great platforms, in an all around competition I don't think I could match them. my closest guess though, 03-04 cobra, built 5.4 swap, twin 35R, c16, head studs and oringed block how that would compete, i dont know, but I'd imagine it would put up alittle bit of fight
  3. Well, aircraft....turbochargers were jet engines...until they went to the axial style earth movers....lots of piston gas/diesel turbocharging and application up to about 3000hp You get what I'm saying holmes?
  4. actually my expereience comes from aircraft and earth moving equipement...
  5. ok, so I have 35K to buy a car, and 25k to modify? Is that cost with labor? without labor? sponsored? You said you had a shop car...are we talking any joe off the street prices here?
  6. I never said it was a bad thing, just pointing it out... What does my personal car have anything to do with a discussion on v8 and i4 engines? It's close to stock, i do alot of travel for my job.. you are taking this personally...which is not the point of these posts I was curious on the oringing because it seemed past 600whp, it was a wise idea on the 4G?
  7. Well, give me some ballparks? How much money into the build for a total platform?
  8. And we thank you for buying our parts and bolting them on
  9. So the block isnt oringed and its using the factory head bolts? The RPM is so high because you arent in full boost until 4.8k...
  10. I think that's in your head, lol, theres a physical limit that a tire can take, its easier for dsm platforms since they drive 4...
  11. Hey, the 4g is a great platform - saw the BR evo run 172mph!! keep in mind, there are very few FI designed v8s, you have what, the zr1 when it comes out? the terminator, gt40... lets start comparing appless to appless
  12. @ your psi - what fuel do you run? you're revving factory valve train to 8-9000? you're running a factory head bolt/non oringed block? you can honostly show me the bmeps for a v8 and 4cyl that are making similar power in both #s and range - and don't think the 4cyl is under more stress?
  13. diesel is compression ignitied, very slow burning. its in their nature to run high on pressue
  14. thats just quality of the engineering. gm stuff at nascar level is still a factory part, just from gm performance.
  15. is there a tire that can take that kind of power? pro stock, alcohol, meth v8s have beat ya to it... no disrespect though, seeing as ur a guy with some fast shit
  16. i guess if ur a numbers guy, what does it take to run 6,7 second quarter miles? pro-stock around what 40psi would give an 8 at the tires....
  17. also thats 1500-1750hp in general terms
  18. why do u say that? its actually easier to do it with more cubes, BMEP! what it comes down 2, in stock from, the lsx is about 13bar na, while the evo is somewhere like 20-30bar? it shows that the 4 is getting shitloads of power and is efficienct as all else, but if done right, 40-50psi on a 347 is like 1050some odd cubes when talking mass flow
  19. you wouldn't need that much psi to make the same power for the same range
  20. finally, lol i dont know why you typed the rest, i didnt say anything about cars...
  21. show me spool times of a 62-1 on a 2L....please find a graph of your z24 with rpm and boost noted...i like to laugh as you prove me right so your saying that if you defy the laws of physics and have a huge powerband with a 4cyl turbo that makes comparable power to an 8...you have built properly? uhh..k yeahh uhh, theres this thing called mass flow in an engine, you tune around if your na. sorry bud if your working with na 4s taht dont suck in air, you only have doodads like variable runners and cam timing that make the best of any resonance tuning your going to get... you have failed to see my point entirely and now your adding cavets into your arguments about nitrous and square figures bow your head and drive back to pizza hut and make me some dinner lol
