Yes around 2k plus labor is fair to say. If you do injectors, oil pump, timing chain , cam, pushrods, spring kit, gaskets, fluids, balancer bolt and don't forget a tune on top of all that
Not sure if any members from down south are going but we are heading to the daytona 500 next week and we are going to stop off in georgia for f/s to attend the event. I wish we had a place like SGMP here in Central Ohio!
yeah I sure will, I will be getting rid of it this summer along with the turbo 400 behind it. I love the tail, cant really stand the nose
So far the vision for the car will be left orange for a while since the paint is clean and the money can be spend on performance stuff
Change the nose to a 77/78 because it looks the best and is the least amount of work to change
Black crager soft 8 wheels either 17's with fat tires all the way around or 15" wheels with a 275 dr on the back
Lower the suspension so it has alot better stance and level
I really want the black side pipes with tinted windows and black trim, my only down side would be ground clearance and burned legs. But if would be super cool with twin turbo 5.3/6.0 if each down pipe just went to the side pipes.
yeah im really going for the cheapest all around budget build and giving it some better looks. I know soft 8's proly arent the best wheel or lightest for that matter but for 50 bucks a piece you can beat the orange blacked out car look
Yeah Im thinking about this look what does everyone think about it? soft 8's and i do really like the side pipes if the car had tinted windows and black powedercoated window trim. and obviously lower the car down

and here is a quick vid of the car running right now
Been a few weeks since an update, just started getting back to it, and kind of on a roll so really hope to see a tune in the car by the first of april, we will see.
All the coated stuff came back, cold side and down pipe along with turbine housing went to nitro plate. The other stuff was powder coated by Killer Koatings. I got the forged 370 all assembled and put into the car. got the fuel rails plumbed up front and coolant, breather and throttle body stuff mostly assembled and installed.
Over the next couple weeks I will have the feed and return plumbed for the fuel system and hopefully the trans lines. I have some new wilwood brakes to install and then get the trans back in the car.
My last thing to do will be wiring and after that the car should be all ready for the tune.

Yeah I hope to level the suspension, but way over the big cam carbed engines, I already picked up a 6.0 engine and probably picking up twin mp t70s for it.
I have one that needs an igniter, I still light it with a lighter just fine, id let go for 40 bucks. I can get the model info but it is the one that has adjustable heat settings. its worked great for me, I just have a 230 hanging heater in garage now
yeah if the deal was not smoking I would not of got the car, I was leaning towards a fox notch to do an all out budget hp build. Its not my first choice but oh well. I do plan on rocking out some white snake or east bound and down with my trucker hat as soon as warm weather gets here.
yeah no clue what pontiac was thinking. 77-78 would be a very easy swap and there are donor cars out there. 75-76 would not be bad but a new hood would be needed since those years the hood was flat and not beveled. So if the car stays orange the front end wont be changed. If my budget on paper stays the same I could see some extra coin being around then have the car sprayed and front changed
yup look for a build thread in about 2 months. my ideal time line is mid summer have it on the rollers looking to make 600 at tire. we shall see though....
yeah not a fan of the nose on the car, If I ever look at the car for more than maybe a bunch of hp very cheap I will have the car painted and swap the nose for a 77-78 or a 75-76... not sure which I would like more. but all around its growing on me little by little, car is just so solid
A buddy of mine had this 79 trans am tucked away in his pole building for a while and I know the previous 15 years of this cars life. Super solid, not an ounce of rust to be seen on this car. It has a 73 455 in it that has had some work, its a 462 with edelbrock alum intake/carb 10.?:1 comp super comp headers. Not the most crazy setup but it sounds tough
Either way I am on this kick about building the cheapest 600+ rwhp 2nd gen ta so as soon as the nova is breathing which should be in a month or two this car goes under the knife
Ive started collecting parts for it. It will either sport a twin turbo 6.0 or a big single 5.3 depending how the budget gets by that point. I will do some random driveline upgrades as well and then just let it eat.

New body jettas are JUNK. I have owned vw's cars from 93-11 and ill tell you that vw sure cheaped out, the interior is made of real brittle cheap plastic that rattles and when you close the door it sounds like a pop can (or a jap/korean) car.
I worked on vw for 8 years and Id say they still sell a bunch of cars because they are priced to compete with toyota but if you are a loyal vw customer...you will be disappointed.
We just traded in the wifes 11 to go back to the mk5 jetta, we just picked up an 09 tdi.
