  1. I live 15 mins from grant park, my mother lives literally next to grant park.

My brother lives in west loop, so I usually stay with him. I haven't heard anything about Rage (doubtful, Smashing Pumpkins is more likely). I'm not a huge Rage fan, but I think they would put on a great show, same as NIN, and when I saw RHCP at Lolla 2 years ago.

  2. I usually call my RX-7 "the RX-7" or just "the red car."

But my 3 is named Graybeard. It's kind of a gay name, but it's kind of a gay car too. Story: When my girlfriend first got her cat, her mom suggested all kinds of lame names for the cat, like Cartman and Graybeard (it's a gray cat.) Flash-forward about 7 months when I bought my 3, and I ended up with a gray car instead of a blue one like I had originally wanted. I called my girlfriend on the way home from the dealership and told her that I had bought a gray car, the same color as her cat, and she immediately renamed the car.

(BTW, the cat's name is James)

  3. TLs are really nice. I really miss mine (black on tan '04) I put over 50,000 miles on it in the 2 years that I had it.

Just to clear things up from the other thread, the TL has been offered with an MT since 04, the Type-S made a return in 07 (I think)

Most of the best forums have already been listed. I got some good info from Acurazine. As far as performance goes, there isn't that much available for the J-series (Honda's V6); most of the stuff available is for the 4-bangers.

  4. PORTILLOS PORTILLOS PORTILLOS!

There is one in Downers Grove on Butterfield, but depending on where you are, you might be closer to the one in Bolingbrook.

Down-her grove is actually quite a ways from "Chicago" proper, but there is actually quite a lot to do in the suburbs. (I know, I grew up in the next town over)

Will you have a car? What part of Downer's Grove will you be in (north, south)? I can point you to a few more places if I know some details.

  5. From my line of work (car designer), the best job always seems to be car magazine writers.

Travel to exotic locations on somebody else's bill? Check

Be wined and dined by OEMs trying to get you to say nice things about their cars? Check

    Drive really expensive cars? Check

    Drive really fast cars? Check

Then, at the end of the day, getting to say basically whatever you want about a specific car and not having to worry about fixing any of the actual problems in the car (ie, my job)? Check

  6. For those that don't know; if you have a fiberglass hood, you can mount the antenna in the engine compartment.

I hate external antennas. That's where it is on my Formula and it works great.

I took the spoiler off my 3 hatchback and put the antenna inside the spoiler. Stuck it in with some 3M double-stick tape. Works great and totally hidden!

  7. Depends what you want to do with it. If you are towing anything bigger than a jetski, you definitely want one of the larger SUVs with a body-on-frame (ie, truck) construction and V8 engine. If you are mostly using it as a people-mover, then one of the car-based SUVs with a V6 will be more comfortable and get better gas mileage.

That being said, I have personal experience with 2 of your choices:

My girlfriend's parents have an Aviator and I was underwhelmed by it. It rides and drives like a truck, albeit a very nice one. There are a ton of features to be had (I think they have heated and cooled seats), but the interior seemed to be cramped for something that was so big on the outside.

I also work for Honda, so I am very familiar with the Pilot. Sizewise, it is about the same as the Aviator, but the interior is way bigger. The ride is nice and smooth, and as one poster said, the top trim levels can be quite luxurious. See if you can find a Pilot with VCM (not sure what year they added that), and save yourself some gas, too.

  8. I have XM because I got a discount on the original equipment when it first came out 4 years ago. Overall, I am satisfied with it and have never considered switching. It seems like there is always something on that I will listen to, and the overall variety of music channels is good. I don't really know what all the people are complaining about the commercials? The talk stations have commercials (same as Sirius), and I think 3 music stations have commercials because they are licensed from Clear Channel. Most of the pop stations are censored, but AFAIK, none of the rock or rap stations are.

I've never listened to Sirius, but most people I know that have it are also satisfied with it.

It will be interesting to see how the whole merger shakes out. XM has said that you won't have to buy new equipment, so my guess is that the programming will just merge into one lineup to save budget. We'll see...

BTW, there are 5 new rock stations on XM

    1. Squizz-new rock, basically the Blitz

    2. Fred-playing "old" alternative, aka pre-Nirvana

    3. Ethel-which plays new alternative, bascially CD101 stuff

    4. Lucy-which supposedly plays the "best" of Fred & Ethel, but ends up sounding like the alternative station from whenever you were in high school

    5. XMU-XM's "college" station, which plays new/indie music, rock, rap, etc...

  9. With the "Charlie Brown" and "Emergency Call" posts, it got me to thinking, what are some of your favorite things from "the beginning of the internet?" Only reposts allowed here! Hopefully we'll discover some new ones that we missed out on. (NWS'd just in case.) I'll start:

    Spirit of Christmas

("Dude, don't say buttfucker in front Jesus")

    http://www.killfile.org/soxmas/

    The Infamous Exploding Whale:

    And of course, Napster Bad

("I mean, James blew up for you!")

  10. Yeah, I was looking for some reviews on the internet and the Brauns are generally higher rated than the rotary types. I usually shave every other day (cause 1. I'm lazy and 2. kinda baby-faced, so I can get away with it) with a blade, but it's nice to have an electric around.
  11. Hey does anybody use an electric razor? Mine broke and I need to get a new one. I had about a 10 year old Braun, but I have heard good things about the Norelco razors, too. I usually shave with a Gillette razor and just keep an electric around for emergencies (like when I run out of blades), so I don't want to spend too much money.
  12. I'd have to go with GT-R. I'm a sucker for Japanese styling, and it will do for supercars what the original NSX did in 1991: take on Ferrari and Porsche, at half the price.

BTW, that NSX concept is a few years old. I saw it at the auto show and it may photograph well, but it looks pretty plain in person. By contrast, the Honda HSC (from 2003) was a much nicer design that recalls the mid-engine layout of the current car:

  13. You know, most of you can switch to WOW (most, not all, due to where you live).

Can't get WOW cause I'm in an apartment. Otherwise I'd already be there.

TWC recently switched to OCAP software in their cable boxes (known as "OCRAP" in the industry).

What is this OCAP software? My buddy got a TW HD-DVR about 2 weeks after I did and the box looks the same, but the software was completely different. Mine has the "primitive" software on it: it looks and operates like it was created by a kindergartner.

  14. Called TW at work today. They told me I could take the box to the service center (either at Olentangy or there is one in Westerville somewhere) and exchange it for a new one. Didn't even seem surprised or ask what was wrong with it. Must be common. I hope TW is getting them fixed by Scientific Atlanta (who actually makes the box) for free.
