  9. Define "small" business... My restaurant makes roughly $1.2-$1.3M/yr, and im not a franchise, im corperate. This is still going to hurt a bit, but only because i employ more than 30 people. If i was a Red Roof that only had 5 or 6 employees, i wouldnt care. +1 on hard work. Im only 24, but i make about 40k, have great benifits, drive a nice car, live in a nice apt... now i just need me a smokin hot lady friend... any takers?
  10. god that has to be frustrating to see that other car right there but you cant come around it.
  11. Agreed. Running that Z24 in Street Modified taught me 3 valuble things. 1. DONT HIT CONES. Knowing where your tires are, were, and are going to be is crutial. If you cant put your 50" wide track thru a 52" wide space at 40 or 50mph, you have some work to do. 2. Look ahead. In the begining of the season i found myself focusing on the 50ft of crete in front of me. After many many runs of trial and error i found myself driving out of my perifrial(sp?) vision. My eyes were always looking at the exiting path of the next corner. This helps you visualize where the car needs to be, and then just let yourself put it there. 3. Suspension dynamics. A car acts completely different when you are on the throttle, coasting, or under hard braking. To perform the same actions, you have to do things differently. Figuring out what works and doesnt takes time, but it helps in the anticipation factor... this way, when you come out of that LFT->RT split-S at 57mph and only have 64ft to slow down and setup for the 165deg RTHND hairpin (Mothers Day classic `04)... your not caught off guard. Still contemplating running the S40 in G-Stock.
  12. Does Economics 101 say to increase minimum wage 33%? A more appropriate increase would have been to 5.75 or 6.00 AT THE MOST.
  13. It does and it doesnt. I ran consistantly in the top 7 with a near stock J-body. Sometimes you can just flat out-drive other people. Just because someone rolls a S2000, doesnt make them faster, it just means they can be sloppier and run the same time you can. I always thought driving in a slower car in a faster class was more benifitial than going and buying a faster car. If you teach yourself to not make mistakes, youll be top competetor in your class with a proper vehical.
  14. Thats because you workin fast food, a volume based business. You have more than 1000 guest checks a day... to a restaurant that is driven on guest check average such as my own, the increse will be more than double that. We will probably go up .35-.70 on everything, not to mention the delivery charge. I too am salary, and its not my paycheck it effects, its my ability to run my allowed labor percentage based on my forcasted sales vs plan and flow-thru. My average crew tenure is almost 3yrs My average crew wage is $6.38 Im allowed to scedule 22.4% labor (roughly $4928) divide that by $6.38 = 772hrs 25min or labor per week divide that by the number of crew i carry and thats a hair over 25.7hrs/wk take that same 4928 and divide it by the new average of $6.94/hr is 710hrs... only 23.6hrs so in that 62hrs that ive lost, i could deliver to 217more people, make 813 more large specialty pizzas, or distribute 12,400 more coupons and doorhangers... Given that my bonuses are based on the performance of the restaurant, can you see why id be pissed?
  15. Nick speaking.... Now rather than being able to keep 9 full time drivers on staff, i have to fire 3 and pick up 4 part timers. Ignorance just cost 3 people thier jobs... I sure hope Tyrone the crack head, Jim Bob grease monkey, Irene the unwed mother of 9, and Lashusha the corner worker are happy with thier 6.85/hr jobs because 3 responsible fathers just lost thier 15/hr jobs. T Thats the problem with people... everyone only thinks of themselves.. noone cares about the collective or who they are dragging down just so they can come off of food stamps and welfare and live a life of squalor all on thier own. I cant say i agree with people trying to support families with hourly wage jobs is something i agree with, but why ruin 3 families lives so that 4 can bring in less in a year than a responsible person is paying in rent? I guess raising the weekly salary $68 is enough to throw good people to the wolves. Watch what happens to the cost of food... especially cheese, chicken, and pork. And watch what happens to your future TV when Walmart has to pay little Susan 6.85 to run that cash registar instead of 6.25. Your labor percentage x average labor crew $ hr, is a direct reflection of your overall labor yield (business owners will understand this), and unless you raise your yield to support the percentage lbr$hr by increasing price of product, you have to cut out the lbr$hr... the only way to do that is to fire people. Im so glad greedy people are smart BTW, the best way to get a riase is to WORK HARD AND GET PROMOTED. School is good, but working your way from hourly to salary is faster and easier lol. Example: My little sister - 5yrs at Athens + school debt = teaching degree & 25-28k/yr Me - 4yrs in a restaurant + lots of hard work = My own store & 36k/yr +bonuses, benifits, stock options, further advancement opertunity + 1yr jump on my next promotion landing me 60-70k, company car, more stock, and bonuses than you can shake a stick at. Call me old fashioned, but theres no replacement for hard work and ambition, and no school can teach you that.
