  1. I work at Banfield in Beavercreek and I would recommend them to anyone. They are the largest national chain of pet hospitals so they have much better equipment than others because of corporate support. If you have any questions about the wellness plans or anything just pm me.
  2. Yeah, I was thinking that since I'm not a real hardcore mountain biker I would probably just stick with the lx with the hydro discs. That leaves me more money to upgrade my tri bike anyway.
  3. Actually I'm a sponsored rider for flyte1.com so I get pretty good deals. I am fairly new to mountain biking though(I do mostly tri's) so I was wondering if any "experts" could give their opinion on pro's and con's of each.
  4. Mostly what I do is XC which includes many southern Ohio hills. The only MTB race I plan on doing is the offroad half-iron which isn't really a speed challenge, it is more a test of who can actually finish.
  5. Anyone have any opinions on good/better/best as far as price vs performance when it comes to the Deore LX, XT, and XTR component sets? I know that the XTR is quite a bit lighter and does cost quite a bit more but is the increased performance worth the money?
  6. WOW, I can't believe that Mike Brown is a member of CR.com. That is just amazing!
  7. Yeah, Bob Sapp is huge but he has lost quite a few fights to guys who kick a lot and take out his legs. Plus, anyone who is able to take him into the second or third round usually beats him because he has such terrible endurance.
  8. Movie wasn't too funny but an A+ for the ads around the screen.
  9. Nice find. I would love to have something like that.
  10. When you are doing your runs you need to keep your heartrate in the fat burning range for your age which is probably around 155 or so (I'm not real sure so I'm jusr guessing). That might help somewhat but I've never met you so I don't know what you look like or anything so it is hard to say exactly what you need to do. I definitely stand by eating smaller portions more often especially if you are living a pretty sedentary lifestyle most of the day.
  11. If pushing yourself is the problem then you need to get a run partner who is better than you who will also be willing to help you out and push you further and harder than you want to go. If you do that once or twice a week that would really help get your competitive spirit up.
  12. I've also heard that interval training is a good way to train. I don't know how effective it is at the shorter distances (5-10k) but I know for a true distance runner it is tried and true. In case you aren't familiar with interval training that is running then walking in intervals, mostly time intervals. When you run, run hard.
  13. I would suggest not running 6 out of 7 days in the week. Not because it is bad for you but because you are going to get tired of it and begin to hate it. I personally run four days out of the week with one long day (being much longer than you are interested in), I swim 3 days a week and bike 5 days a week. I'm sure that you aren't quite interested in getting that deep into it but I train pretty religiously. I get up at 5:30 to do all this and usually do my runs at 10:00 at night. I would definitely suggest the cross training though so that you don't tire out mentally. I actually picked up this program after speaking with an olympic qualifier in marathon distance when I was training for a marathon.
  14. Take it to the humane society or a "no-kill" adoption agency of some sort if you are worried about the cat living. The only thing that will be done at this point is an amputation of the leg because it is easier and cheaper to amputate than it is to set and cast on a feline.
  15. Give me your number fruit cake.
  16. As far as tips, I would just suggest training hard for the swim. I was never much of a swimmer so this is the hardest part for me. For bike training I just ride about 15 miles as fast as I can. I just log my times every ride and try to improve each time. If you can ride 15 miles fast then 12 should be easy. Run training is very similar for me. I try to run a little further than 5k and keep a log of my times. Rest days are the most important though. DON'T OVERTRAIN!
  17. I didn't want to mess up the diet thread with all this talk so I decided to start this one. I'm doing a tri at Caesar's Creek 7/10, one at East Fork 7/17, and an offroad tri at Lake Hope on 7/24. I can get you the links if you were interested in checking them out. They should all be a lot of fun.
  18. Don't ever come down south if you are bothered by mispronounced words. I think that is what makes this place great though. You can usually tell what part of the country someone is from just by the way they pronounce words.
  19. I don't drink any soda at all because caffeine actually limits the ability of hemoglobin in RBCs to bind to oxygen thus making you more tired when exercising. I was just pulling a few helpful quotes from Runner's World. I personally would suggest not drinking any soda at all, it will do wonders.
  20. Those of you who road bike, anytime you are going to do a competitive ride, give me a hollar. I do triathlons mostly but I'm up for a century ride sometime.
  21. Also, if you are serious about getting in better shape, consider taking up swimming as a hobby. Swimming is the best workout that I do. It is low impact, great cardio, also great resistance training.
  22. Here are a few tips that may help: Water for one sugary drink (tea or fruit punch) every day for six months and you'll cut enough calories to lose 13.5 lbs. Switch from regular soda to diet soda every day and in a year you'll consume about 91,000 fewer calories(26 lbs), depending on how much soda you drink. Eat more small meals rather than one or two large meals a day and that will help to keep your metablism up and it will also limit what your body puts in storage. Become a label reader, watch your caloric intake, the only way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you ingest. Keep a picture diary so you can visually track your body changes, losing weight isn't going to be easy especially when you throw weight training in there with it but you will definitely be making a physical impact on your body that will improve your self perception so rather than watching the scales, watch your body change.
  23. For chrome pieces, try denatured alcohol. I used to use it on my chrome wheels and it worked wonders. Never streaks as long as the wheels are clean because it evaporates quickly. You can also use it on windows and such.
