  1. When I had appendicitis last spring, the hospital billed the insurance company $26k. My health insurance company negotiated that down to like $12k, and my 20% was about $2300. My wife and I happened to be in position to pay the full amount we owed in one lump, but she asked if there was a paid in full, cash discount. There was, and the hospital knocked gave us a 10+% discount for paying the bill in full, and made the bill $2000 flat. Now if I could just get a hold of the anesthesiologist... That dude bills separately from the hospital.
  2. This! You'll have plenty of time to play once you've really set down roots and gotten stable. You're on the right track now, don't screw it up by taking on more debt. Figure out what payment you'd be willing to accept, and pay yourself for a while. You'll be shocked at what kind of future you can build for yourself.
  3. I've had great success with CHA. We rescued from there a few years ago, and were really impressed that they took the time to make sure the animals they adopt out will be in a good environment for both the animal and the people adopting it. We adopted our current dog from there, and had gone back to adopt another, but upon living with us for a couple of weeks, the second (and much larger) dog decided she didn't like my young son, and started biting at him. We took her back, and told them what had happened. They took her, and apologized for placing her with us.
  4. Jumping on my bike, and heading for Northern Va for my mom's surprise birthday party, then spending the following week in the greater DC area, exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains, and Washington D.C.
  5. golf cart + salvaged motorcycle powertrain = much stoplight fun to be had. Can't access YouTube at work, but do a search... Looks like fun!
  6. ^^^^^^^^ This. Every time I've been pulled over, I earned it. Whether it was something I knowingly did (like not running a front license plate in Gahanna), or not paying attention to my speed. I'm fortunate enough though at this point in my life that when the police run my license, they see no driving record infractions in the last 5 years. Believe it or not, a clean record and courteous attitude goes a long way.
  7. Looks great, nice job! It almost looks too good to be a track rat!
  8. I think I figured it out. 160k on the clock, and the ignition lock cylinder is getting a little worn out. I found that the "on" detent isn't as defined as it once was, and it seems I may have been a little careless when I started it this morning. I think the weight of my keys hanging combined with the soft detent in the on position made it possible for the ignition to momentarily "turn off" when I hit a bump. That also explains why once I had to use the key to restart there was no more issue.
  9. So I was on my way in to work this morning, running about 50-55 down a long hill, when I hit a bump, and my airbag light started flashing. The car has never done this before, and the light went out fairly quickly, so I kept watching for it. With every successive bump I hit, the light would flash. On some of the larger bumps, all of the dash lights would come up, and the car would try to die, but being in gear, fired right up again. Once I got on the highway, everything was fine, no more issues. I've checked the connections at the battery and alternator, and found no obvious issues. Any ideas?
  10. Hmmm... did not know that. Thanks!
  11. That only applies to tax deductible gifts, does it not? If you gift a car to an individual, it isn't tax deductible, so no worries right?
  12. It looks like Kia built a better looking Camry! Camry: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.qdautos.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/2010-toyota-camry-hybrid.gif&imgrefurl=http://www.qdautos.com/2010-toyota-camry-hybrid/&usg=__MY1uuYoVi8xJW46FdkhhU5zk15M=&h=333&w=500&sz=107&hl=en&start=12&itbs=1&tbnid=8OBNlpoTbFVKMM:&tbnh=87&tbnw=130&prev=/images%3Fq%3D2010%2Btoyota%2Bcamry%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Dactive%26sa%3DG%26gbv%3D2%26tbs%3Disch:1 Optima: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.drivearabia.com/news/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/2011-Kia-Optima-450x307.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.drivearabia.com/news/2010/04/02/kia-optima-2011-midsize-sedan-debuts/&usg=__BH5LVAUwstvTfr0SpnwpR7lTr_Y=&h=307&w=450&sz=44&hl=en&start=106&itbs=1&tbnid=GFyoCKsMjLeW_M:&tbnh=87&tbnw=127&prev=/images%3Fq%3D2011%2Bkia%2Boptima%26start%3D90%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Dactive%26sa%3DN%26gbv%3D2%26ndsp%3D18%26tbs%3Disch:1 Sharp car.
  13. My mother in law just two weeks ago gifted us her Saturn Vue. Local Title Bureau said to write "family transfer" on the sale price line, and no taxes get assessed.
  14. No worries, hope you can find what you need!
  15. What exactly are you looking for? I've got a '99 S10 LS 4 cyl, 5sp, 2wd listed on CL for $4000. Rust free, and needs nothing. 146k miles. http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa79/Ron_ofthe_cars/S10005.jpg NADA books out at $4300, but it does have a few dents here and there. But it also has new lower ball joints, and new tires last August. The fiberglass cap goes too.
  16. It's not even his kid, and if I read that right, it's not hers either! WTF!?
  17. My folks live in Leesburg, Va, about 35 miles NW of Washington DC. They had a 25 inch snowfall just before Christmas, 35 inches from this storm, and they're expecting 10 -20 inches tomorrow into Wednesday, with another storm headed that way later this week that could hit them with another several inches! They've already gotten more snow than they have in probably the last 6 or 7 years combined.
  18. If it looks like those photoshop renderings, I think it looks pretty good. The nameplate still doesn't fit, but the car doesn't look too bad.
  19. I just joined UA last night down here in Cincy. I went in there at about 6:30 in the evening, and there were lots of open machines and cardio equipment. Icing on the cake though was the $20 start up fee, and $14.95 month to month membership. Walked out for $37 with my first month paid and no contract. I figured the deal was too good to pass up.
  20. Buckeye Rim and Wheel I've used these guys before. Pretty good prices on used and Reman wheels. Their website is still under development, but it's got their phone number...
  21. Seems to me you'd want to use an S-Blazer for that because of the severe front end weight bias of the pickup. I like your thought and might be interested in going that way with my '99 if I have it long enough. *Edit* Found One!
  22. My only experience with Land Rovers comes from dealing with them when they get wrecked, and I can't think of a marque that has a worse history for body parts availability. For $2k, it may not be as much of a concern for you, but you should be aware that should you have an accident with it that renders it repairable, but not drivable, 45-60 days in the shop waiting for major body panels is not uncommon. This really has more to do with parts ordering policies of the Land Rover dealership network than anything else though.
