car won't run without the battery connected so it looks like it is definately the alternator... thanks for the help

Wow i really screwed up the title on this... Anyways Reason why I'm asking is that on the way back from Dark Knight this evening, my car started making a weird noise only around 1200-1500 rpms. I can almost compare it to a hydraulic pump kinda sound. I got back from the movies and looked all around under the hood but I could find nothing. So I took the car out again and did a pull at waste gate pressure, pulled over, and shut the car down to look if I could see and smoke or anything; there was nothing. When I started it again car it struggled to turn over but started. Got back to my appartment and there was a bit of a burning smell but no smoke. Turned the car off, tried to start again and it clicked but would not turn over. So does this sound like an alternator issue? I am assuming so because it would only make sense the car is dead from running on battery power instead of the alternator. The car has 83k on it and has never had an electrical problem. Do these things make noises when they go out? Do they fail this sudden? Thanks Chris

There is a factory reflash to fix the P0300 code that you can check to see if it was done to your car. The p0300 code has been around the evos since 03 but not many actually have the noticable misfire like ours...

My car has been doing this forever... I have no clue what it is and it drives me up the wall. It will start doing it every once and a while and it will not go away unless i throw it in neutral and shut the car off for like 5 seconds. Then it won't happen for a long time, or at least for the rest of that commute. The thing that worries me is that my wideband goes off the scale lean when it happens so I never get on the gas when it does happen. It has had me stumped for a while.

I still can't find anything so I guess I'm SOL. Looks like I'll be driving the Evo to Texas. My back already hurts just thinking about it.

I have been looking around and have found nothing. I am looking for a one way rental vehicle with a hitch on it to tow my car to texas for my internship this summer. There are SUV's available for rent but I have not found anything that has said they have hitch's available. Anybody know anything? Thanks in advance

Your injectors are maxed out at 328? My car made 349 on that dyno and my injectors aren't nearly maxed. The stock injectors are supposed to be good for at least 375whp.
