I bought this and never got around to putting it in my car (because it doesn't run at this time). Guy before me messed up the fitting that goes into the intake (stripped threads), and needs a vac fitting in the box. Neither of these were mentioned when I bought the kit. I believe both of these can be had at Jegs cheap. Bottle is pretty full from what I can tell. $175 takes it.

I dunno if a stethescope will help you with that unless you are checking injectors. Take some brake clean and spray around your intake everywhere, if idle changes then you know you have a leak.

I'd go ahead and get the sump thing at jegs if it were my car. You've already said what advantages you'll get with it, and that's about all you'll get. I don't see why not to do it.
