So I decided to go ahead and attempt a top end rebuild last night. It is my first attempt at any type of small engine work (or any engine work for that matter) and it was surprisingly more easy than I thought. So I get down to piston and this is what I find. The bike actually ran pretty well despite the piston being this bad. Should I worry about the bottom end having pieces of this in it (which there probably is) since it was running okay? So this is my first top end rebuild. . should I be worried about the bottom end?

I'm looking for a good site to purchase rebuild components for my 1996 yz250. I also would like to get all new plastic for it. I've found a couple sites. . I like oemcycle.com for their nice prices on plastics. . . But anyone know of some others I should check out before committing to one? Thanks.

I dunno. . what would you charge me to do a total rebuild with new internals? :-D She's getting pretty old.

It's intermittent through throttle. . . especially when really getting on it. It's not a consistent miss. . . but more like. . . BOMMM..BOMMMMMMM...BOMMMMM.....MISS MISS....BOMMMMMMMMMM LoL

I have a 96 YZ250. . . started missing every now and then. . . I think it probably needs a carb rebuild. Has new plug and air filter, so I assume it's the carb. Tried spraying it out, still misses. I'm not too mechanically inclined when it comes to small engines. . . does anyone here work on dirt bikes that would care to take a look at it? I'm obviously willing to pay. Would love to get it in tip top shape for spring time! Thanks! -Bill

Oddly i can easily look at that photo scientifically and say "ouch" and not be disgusted. Perhaps the lack of gore and the cleanless of the kill??
