  1. Awful situation, but could have been much worse. Your wellbeing is more important than any vehicle. And for those talking about diminished value, it is VERY tough to get diminished value claims paid for in most states. By this I mean it is very rarely worth the time you will put into trying to prove diminished value compared to what you might end up getting. I work claims for an insurance company and I have never paid a single diminished value claim presented to me. (Not saying I agree with the process, but just trying to give you a realistic expectation). Feel free to contact me if you have questions. Hope they can get it fixed properly for you.
  2. I second the suggestion to look at some used pieces if you're looking for something well built. I got a full Heywood-Wakefield bedroom set from my grandparents and it is some of the better built furniture I've ever had. I believe they bought it in the 1950's and the stuff seems like it will last forever.
  3. Nice pics. I went down with my dad since he has a 68 Mini Cooper he's looking to start restoring and Mini was the featured marque. Was pretty amazing seeing 50 Minis on the course at the same time.
  4. It really is. The plan is to keep this for a few years and trade up to the new MK7 GTI once those hit the used market at a decent price. It's "carbon steel gray" which is fancy for dark gray. It pops a little in the sunlight but is very subdued most of the time.
  5. Got rid of the Speed3 today and picked up a 2012 GTI. 2 door, base model, 26k miles. It's nice going to a car that doesn't shake rattle and roll every time I hit a small bump in the road. I will however need to do something about the lack of power ASAP. Will start with a chip/tune and go from there. http://imgur.com/iH7YQQB.jpg
  6. 1962 DKW 1000S (http://classiccars.com/listings/view/323330/1962-dkw-1000s-for-sale-in-tampa-florida-33594) Asking $11,000 but you might be able to talk him down to 10k. If you're looking for weird/odd this will certainly fit those requirements. http://images.classiccars.com/classifieds/323330_13186193_1962_Autounion_1000%2Bs.jpg I saw a 1962 DKW Junior Deluxe at the Stan Hywet show in Akron today. Saw the 4-rings badge and had to do a double take.
  7. Not the end. Mazda is probably majority at fault, but you need to read up on comparative negligence to see how (at least most states in America) the Lambo driver could bear partial fault if his speed could be proven.
  8. The law reads you must keep insurance on a registered vehicle. The options don't seem easy because they aren't. You might be able to try and plead your case to the BMV but I highly doubt it.
  9. Not 100% true on that first part. You can say you aren't hurt the first day, but it's well known that you might not notice pain until a day or two after. If you call back and say you started noticing pain it isn't like they're just going to say "well you said no yesterday so we aren't going to pay now." If you want to be safe, just say you'd like to take a few days to see how you feel and go from there. Lawyers generally only get involved in the injury portion of a claim, and if you just have some minor neck/back pain you can probably still handle it without a lawyer. Obviously the decision is yours. If you have other questions, PM me.
  10. I've had some claims where a government vehicle was at fault, and there are cases where their immunity applies in that they will pay your deductible but put your insurance company on the hook for everything else. There is no one single way that government agencies handle their vehicles. Seems pretty random to me which ones will handle the whole amount and which won't. After dealing with some of the insurers who carry gov agencies though, I would never use them anyway. I'll add a vote to the "let your own insurance handle it" group because it will be way less of a pain in the ass for you.
  11. Regardless of your opinion on him and the crime he committed, I think it's foolish of the state to expose themselves to a potential lawsuit like this. It doesn't take a genius to see that something like this had a high chance of happening...
  12. A lot of companies won't increase rates if they find you not at fault. Even if they do go up, it should be a minor increase and probably well worth it versus having to fight with Geico on your own.
  13. Bingo. Lawyer won't help much on the liability side of things. Let your company handle it and they will take Geico to arbitration if it comes down to it.
  14. Yes, but mostly because I live northeast of Cleveland in the middle of the snow belt.
  15. The company I work for usually totals at around 75% of the ACV. I would definitely be contacting your adjuster and asking some questions.
  16. Yep, looks like a GT6 to be specific. We have a winner.
  17. That was my original thought, but it almost looks like a Jag E-Type. The hood might be popped up a bit which is throwing me off with the angle of the photo. Also he said something on a sticker said "tyre pressure" which has me thinking British.
  18. Really? I linked it from Imgur. Here's a direct link if it isn't showing up for you: http://i.imgur.com/BcOIzTw.jpg
  19. My buddy took this picture somewhere around Canton, and was wondering what kind of car it is. I've given up but I'm sure someone here can ID this thing. http://i.imgur.com/BcOIzTw.jpg
  20. Progressive does age rating slightly differently. It should (in theory) go down a little bit each year until you hit 24 or 25, then level out until you get to the opposite end of the spectrum. Unfortunately it means when that people expecting a huge rate decrease at 25 will be disappointed. I haven't quoted in quite a while, but I work for Progressive and feel comfortable knowing how they operate as a company, so I choose to stay with them. Last I checked, GEICO was a few dollars cheaper but not worth the savings to deal with switching. Now that I've worked in claims for couple years and have dealt with most of the major companies and their claims services, I know there are certain ones I wouldn't give my business to regardless of the price.
  21. Page 1 made me worried, but page 2 delivered. Would read again.
  22. Also a chance that someone has mistaken your car for someone else's and is keying the wrong car. As far as the question of whether it's worth going through insurance or not, I would get an estimate or two done first. Even if it's a little above your deductible I would just not bother filing a claim on it. Sounds like it's time to camp out for a night and solve this problem permanently though.
  23. Aaaaaaaand I spoke to soon.
  24. I got lower level seats for $66/ticket, but working for Progressive does help a little. We had a presale and were able to get tickets at a slightly discounted rate before they went on sale to public.
