  1. I've been audited on every private sale/buy I've done in the last 4 years. The worst was on a bike trade I did where they sent me a second round of letters (only to me) stating they didn't believe the value I used despite me and the other party having matching stories. I ended up on the phone with them and stated the bike had engine issues that hurt the value and they dismissed the case over the phone. It was very difficult to get ahold of the people I really needed to talk to though. After that, I always let the other party know that an audit is likely to happen and make sure we both know what was put on the title and "why".
  2. As with most any crime there actually has be be some damages done for it to have been committed otherwise it's just "intent". In her case she was likely just recording to see if you were talking bad about her because she is paranoid and thus did not damage either of you in any way. If she succeeded in her recording and tried to use it against you then you could use the power of the law to protect yourself but unless she actually did something with it, no crime was committed. She could simply say she is forgetful and started the recording before leaving the room (when she was party to it) and forgot to turn the recorder off. In the eyes of the law it's worthless to pursue but it is something that you could take up with HR and she would most likely get a written warning about it.
  3. Very nice!! If I ever get back into dragbikes again it'll be a Turbo-Busa.
  4. I have a 3 rail open trailer you are welcome to use however I live about 1.5 hours north of C-bus so I doubt it's economical for you to do so. If you end up wanting it let me know. I think the U-haul motorcycle trailers are about $50 per day to rent.
  5. Looks like he has the bike to low in the back and it could be rubbing the bottom of the rear fender as the tire grows at speed and hits bumps. Scary accident though.
  6. I bought one of the pre-cut wood shed kits from Lowes because I'm terrible with a saw and angles. Price was reasonable when compared to buying the wood and everything else itself. Best part was I did the foundation in a few hours one day and everything else (except shingles and paint) in one more day with only one spare set of hands. It went together great and didn't have any bad cuts. A couple of pieces of wood were pretty warped but if you pre-sort everything they take them back and replace them. Only complaint is the size of the materials, instead of 2x4's you get 2x3's and instead of 5/8's walls you get 1/2". It hasn't seemed to affect it though, it's been through some pretty heavy winds in the last 13 months since it's been up.
  7. Have you checked a credit union? I couldn't get a bank to finance my '02 but the local credit union said they would loan off the book value no matter how old.
  8. You may want to check on insurance costs before you decide on what to buy. When I was 21 my insurance agent STRONGLY recommended ($9000/year for an R1) that I buy a cruiser so I got a V-Max. After 25 and even more in my 30's, sportbikes are cheap to insure and still the only bike for me. My dad started riding sportbikes in his 50's too.
  9. My wife works at a dealership where they sell them and they fly off the showroom floor. People are trading in their cruisers, especially Harleys, for these like crazy. This dealer had a demo for a long time and may still have it; getting that demo ride is the way to go since this is a little bit of a funky ride. I personally didn't like it because I'm riding sport bikes. It doesn't handle good enough or go fast enough for me but it is comfortable and has a ton of luggage room. Gas Mileage is also pretty bad (for a bike) on these. From what I've heard from the mechanics, they seem very reliable but you may want to check out the tire wear and replacement costs. For comparison, a liter bike will eat a set of tires every 5000 miles or less and replacements cost $300 and up for a pair.
  10. What lens are you shooting that with? I'm in the market to do some similar type of photos.
  11. That's funny because I thought the same thing. I believe it is pre-86 though.
  12. Fun cars but every knucklehead friend you have will make a comment about it being for gays. I even had a friend with a 6 cyl convertible fox body say it was a gay car...... Engine bay can swallow almost anything but turbo or LS1s seems the way to go these days. I'd like to see the new Ford 3.7 V6 in one myself. I had a turbo car and it fixed the "lack of power" 1.6 and became a pretty fun car. If you think you will want to turbo though, the NB is easier to route the IC tubing because the popups are gone. Very dependable car and parts are cheap. Junkyard engine $300, junkyard trans $300, many DIY turbo builds to be found. Things I didn't like: My head hit the roof (I'm 6'), seat pan is narrow (I'm fat), if I looked at my hood or headlight covers wrong they would bend (thin aluminum).
  13. Wagner the concept is the same as a CR track rental. The "track" in this case is the owner of the airport or stretch of pavement much like Trails is the owner of their track. The organizing body in the top speed events plays much the same role as CR does at it's track rentals. I'm more sensitive about bike related issues and watching people run 9's in jeans at a track rental isn't much different than seeing a car run at Texas with no cage. Got-Busa - I raced at Maxton in 2002 and again in 2006. I enjoyed it and never had an issue with the rules (for bikes at least) but didn't enjoy the long drive for only 1 run on Saturday due to Hot Rod Magazine being there. 2002 was a lot more fun (even though I didn't have a clue what I was doing) because all the street bike guys were just getting into it and I met a lot of the big names down there as the were just getting started.
  14. I can't speak for the Texas Mile, but when I ran my bike at Maxton it had more of a CR track rental feel than a major NHRA or Bonneville type of event. This was with good reason because this was an event put on by racers for racers.......not by promoters and lawyers. It's worth pointing out that the track rentals by this group and others I've attended always loosely follow the track rules and many times people don't get kicked off the track for breaking them. The group at Maxton is a very concerned with safety and have had an excellent record when it comes to crashes but as time goes on, the egos go up and people bring out all kinds of high powered equipment in an attempt to put the records way out of reach. Then there are the "racers" that lie and say their car will only go so fast so they don't need certain equipment when they know they plan to go much faster; this is like when someone sprays on their last run for the night at the strip and gets booted for no cage.
  15. Congrats, I too just picked one up so I don't have a lot to add but from what I've seen so far you may want to make yourself familiar with the Column Lock Bypass and the A/C condensation dripping on the Body Control Module.
  16. The inspection is usually just a vin check anyway unless he lives around a huge city or the state has e-check rules. Anyway, as the others have said, that's on the buyer not you. I personally would not sign the title until you know for certain he is taking it.
  17. http://www.abate.com They put on motorcycle safety classes that are 1.5-2.5 days and will teach you more than you will learn in a parking lot with some buddies. When my wife did it the cost was $50 and you get she didn't have to take the license test from the BMV, they took her Abate certificate as passing. Pick a class you want to attend and sign up VERY early because they will fill up. Although there are some differences between sportbikes (at a high level) and some other bikes, you really need the fundamentals of motorcycle riding before you worry about learning to ride a sportbike. If you buy a sportbike and take the Abate class, I recommend reading "A Twist of the Wrist II" to teach you some of the things that are lacking from the class to sportbikes. Trackdays are the place to really push your sportbike and learn more than you can on the street but they are not as cheap as the $200 entry fee for a beginner. There is bike prep, often new tires, and proper safety equipment. If you are just getting into it and have to buy everything and pay people to do the work, that one trackday could cost you over $1000. If you love it and do them often, the cost is spread out over several days and becomes much more tolerable.
  18. I agree with Got-Busa, many people are humbled by the standing mile and don't come close to their expected mph.
  19. I would build a bike for it and participate often proved costs were inline or a little more than Texas or Maxton (-transportation). I would say good luck finding a place though because I put out a lot of feelers for this years ago when the ECTA was just getting off the ground and no place was even at all intrigued by such an event. The TRC that Honda now owns came the closest to showing interest but they said the high speed oval is in such a poor state that they don't use it for high speeds anymore.
  20. If I were in the market today, I think the CBR is the best liter bike out. If you intend to drag race though, the aftermarket is much better for the Gixxer. Like others have said, there is not 2010 Suzuki's in the US so buy a leftover model.
  21. I've got an '05 V6 4wd and love it. 90k completely trouble free miles. It has a ton of room inside for a compact SUV. I've put a big eliptical, a small dirtbike, and a bunch of other stuff inside on different occasions when people were just laughing telling me they wouldn't fit. I've also towed 4200 lbs with it and still got 19 mpg with o/d off. I routinely tow a small trailer and two bikes (1750 lbs) and get 22+mpg on trips. Ford is supposed to have made a change in '05 to beef up the trans because the prior years used to have trouble. The trans has no filter so I have mine flushed every 30k and everything is good so far. I'd love to have the new one with 6-speed auto and 40 more horsepower but it depends on your budget. Another issue of slight annoyance is that you have to pull the upper intake on the V6 to change two of the plugs.
  22. Not an LT1, likely a miniram on hopefully an L98. An LT1 wouldn't have a distributor although some 3rd-genners do modify the LT1 intake to work on L98's with a distributor. The chips in the ashtray are because someone has burned custom chips for the car and it probably has a replaceable memcal chip holder in the ECU. Whoever did the previous tuning probably gave this guy several chips with different tunes. The owner clearly knows nothing about the car and it would be a scary purchase without talking to who actually did all the work on it.
  23. I have a chip burner and UV light and maybe some other things you need from back when I was doing my own tuning on these. I would let you have it all real cheap if you want to go that route. Thirdgen.org has a good support community for this too. That said, if I had it to do over again, I'd get Gearhead's guy to do it.
  24. Winterize or not, carbed SV's have issues. My first one would have issues after two weeks of sitting. The second SV I had sat and was gummed up but had a choke issue that forced the owner to park it and eventually sell it to me. After having the carbs cleaned and rebuilt, it acted just like my first bike. I'd buy the one FormulaMatt listed if I was in the market. Really good price in my opinion.
  25. I've had two SV650s and love them. I would own another one if I rode enough to justify another bike but I'd get a fuel injected one. The carbs always gave me fits in the spring or after sitting for to long.
