  1. Older Escapes are known for transmission problems but they supposedly made a change in 2005 which is what I have. I have 90k on it and have had zero issues. I do some towing with it, haul everything I need to (don't know about 4x8 sheets though), it'll hold 4 adults although a little tight in the knees, and the awd is great in the snow. Even with a V6 AWD I get 25 mpg in 100% highway driving but around town is significantly less. FYI: no Escape has a servicable transmission filter which is what many believe to be the problem.
  2. I started with a 1975 Honda CB360 that was given to me. I sold it 3 times and each time it was given back to me after the rider learned to ride on it. I made about a grand off that bike when I finally sold it for the last time. In the years I had it, it was dropped 4 times, wrecked into a curb twice, and fell off a trailer while moving. Old bikes are great if you want to learn the maintenance side of things too because they often require constant attention. I bought my wife an SV650s and she wound up not liking riding so I used it for track days and daily commute and sold it for about what I paid too. Older carbed SVs can be very prone to gumming up, I'd buy an EFI one if I were in the market today but that drives the price up a lot.
  3. I've been to Maxton and it's cool but very expensive for what you get. My last trip cost me around $1000 even and I only got one run thanks to Hot Rod magazine bringing in about 400 cars to the event. If anyone has interest in going I can give you plenty of info about it. There is also a video of John Hennessy in his TT Viper running 226mph I believe. This was more impressive than any of the bike runs honestly. When he went by, the pits went silent as everyone knew they were witnessing history.
  4. The fridge cart or appliance dolley is a tall two wheel cart with a strap to hold the appliance on it and some special creaper tracks on the back to aid in going up and down stairs. They can be rented from local places like Sunbeam or possibly lowes. Keep in mind when you move it in two pieces it's only like 500 lbs each because the door is heavier than it looks. I've moved mine 3 times and each time the only thing I need help with is setting the door back on the hinges.
  5. Get a refridgerator moving cart and move it in two pieces (door and safe). I did this for a slightly smaller one and did it by myself but it was only into the house and up a couple of steps. A rental place can probably rent you the cart or if you have a buddy at an appliance store they might be able to hook you up.
  6. I had mine done at Schnitz Racing in Decatur, IN and it was great. I have been to the dyno day with Dynotune and thought he was very professional and would probably do a great job as well and if his price is $200 for a full tune that is better than anywhere else I've ever heard. Beware though that some shops only tune for full throttle and that's why they are so cheap.
  7. I have a 700p which is almost the same gun. .308 is much better for a beginner getting into long range that doesn't want to drop a lot of money. The 700 is very good for a box stock gun but as with everything, to get ultra competitive (if that's your goal) you will sink some money into custom work. Many people spend more than the price of the rifle on the glass that goes on top so keep that in mind as you get into this.
  8. In the one pic it looks like there is something odd on the frame up by the triple tree. If there is frame damage it would explain the rebuilt title more than just plastic damage. It wouldn't necessarily scare me off but be aware that it will make it a tough sell when you try to get rid of it.
  9. This guy is part of my motorcycle group in Toledo. The car looks very nice but I don't know his final price because I wasn't really looking at it myself. I'd go for the Cobra too if it were me. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-Mustang-Saleen-S281-Saleen-Convertible-S281-S-C_W0QQitemZ330362518205QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item4ceb23fabd&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245
  10. I couldn't find it on CL anymore but here is the guys e-mail and what he sent me when I asked about it: hondamdh84@hotmail.com 1999 LS1 from trans am I believe ~90K miles Included are wiring harness and ECU Headers are extra but are close hugger headers with ceramic coating for heat disapation. picture has them installed $1600 obo cash
  11. There is one in Kenton Ohio that I found on the Lima/Findlay Craigslist. It's exactly what you are looking for and the guy was asking $1600 obo.
  12. I have a '92 Miata with a turbo and lots of other good stuff. It was just painted the new dark gray on the ZR1 Corvettes and I'm still putting it back together. $5,500
  13. I have a '98 CR80 totally rebuilt with new tires........$600
  14. BTW, lowering the front makes high speed stability worse but turn in sharper. Did you changed tires and the problem appeared (I didn't see that in your write up) if so it could be profile of the new tires is higher putting more weight on the front. You also have a stock steering damper that may need rebuilt. 1st gen R1's without damper had all had this problem around 130 mph. Another problem lies in the operator. If you have gotten lazy and are putting to much weight on the bars, you are the one that may be causing it. Around 100 mph most people would be tucking and this may be when you hang on extra hard to the bars instead of hanging on with your lower body. It could be bearings too, but I have no experience with that.
  15. Honda Polish or Plexus whatever I have handy. Spray it on wipe it off, admire the shine. For cleaning the chain get yourself a Grunge Brush and some chain wax (spray can). With the chain warm from a ride mix up some degreaser like Castrol Superclean and use the brush to scrub the chain. Wipe dry with a towel and spray with a good coat of chain wax. No matter what, don't think putting the bike in gear while running on the rearstand will make any part of cleaning the chain easier.
  16. Great choice, I had an 01 SV-s and it was great. I rode it all the time despite having a ZX12 in the garage beside it. Mine was also lowered at times for my wife and I didn't have any trouble with corners while lowered. The carbs are notorious for problems on these bikes and mine would always load up but you just had to go WFO at least once per week to keep it running tip top. The suspension is also in desperate need of help for any serious riding. I used Racetech parts to rebuild my forks and a rear shock from a 636 Kawasaki and it transformed the handling of the bike.
  17. If you are putting one in an area you don't go to a lot, get one that you can plumb a hose to the sump pump. I keep mine set at 45% except in the winter and then I leave it off because higher humidity makes the house feel warmer at a lower actual temp.
  18. Either method is fine if done correctly. If you are used to 2 stroke dirtbikes, you are probably slipping the clutch a lot and that is not good nor necessary. Get the clutch out quick if you are going to use it. For clutchless shifting, put a little pressure (up) on the shifter prior to gear change and then roll off the throttle some and you should feel your shift lever move the rest of the way seemingly on its own. A proper clutchless shift should make no clunk or bang and should be harmless to the transmission. FWIW I used to have a V-Max and it was not as easy to do this on as a sportbike. The trans was clunky and gear spacing is much wider than a modern rocket.
  19. I would suggest putting it on thirdgen.org because it looks like a good deal based on parts alone. You said it has a "locker rear end" but aren't specific about what rear end it is (9 inch, stock 10 bolt, stock 9 bolt). You will also want to list the cam specs so someone may have an idea how out of tune it is. You likely have a huge vacuum leak (or a bunch of small ones) which is killing the idle and the brakes. I've been out of TPI cars for a while, but I was not aware of a plug-n-play larger MAF so you may catch some flack about that without more info.
  20. Ohio Rapid Fire had a couple STAG lowers for their normal price when I was there a couple of weeks ago.
  21. Wow you got your panties in a bunch over my last statement. I'm simply trying to say that modding most bikes is useless and the money is better spent working on your riding skill in a controlled atmosphere. I too think the locals at Deal's Gap are dangerous, hence why I called them "crazy" in my previous post. A 1000rr has more than enough power already and you will probably find it needs suspension work if you start pushing it real hard. Once you've found that point, you'll be ready to start modding it. I guess I should have just told you to buy a DSM like everyone else.......
  22. I think you missed my point, I'm not saying the OR crew are the greatest riders on Earth. I'm saying go to Deals Gap with them and watch the crazy locals smoke guys that you think are fast. Holding your own on the street is merely slight talent and big balls. I used to pass guys on 1000rr's at the track with an SV650 but I'm never the fastest guy on the street.
  23. I'd suggest wait until spring, and then drop some money on new tires for the bike and a track day. You will learn how to use 75% of the speed the bike already has and you'll be hooked to the speed and thrill only a bike can bring. Then tag along with Ohio Riders to Deals Gap and see guys that use 95% of the bikes abilities on the street.
  24. Well I think you said you wanted a revolver but it's hard to tell since everyone kept suggesting semi-autos. I'm a revolver guy at heart and have a few and have shot many more. My favorite is my Colt Anaconda but I wouldn't call it cheap to shoot. The older S&W's don't handle hot hand loads well from my experience but my Colt and the Super Redhawk will take anything you can throw at them. If you are looking for a cheap single action cowboy style look at a Ruger Vaquero (sp). I had one for a while and it was a nice shooter but it meant more to someone else than it did me so I sold it. My next handgun will be a homebuilt AR15 shortie.
  25. Looks like most of you had a good time. I'll probably drag some TSBR guys down there in the spring for my 10th visit if you are interested in going back. We'll probably hit North Georgia and South Carolina too while we are at it. Any trouble with the police this time of year? They have been really thick all year thus far.
