  1. Fo those who are new to AutoX, sign up for the Driver's school on 5/20. This is NOT required, so don't worry if you can't make it. But it's very helpful, so I highly recommend you go. Even with 3 years under my belt I still found useful help at the Driver's School. It's very low pressure and fun. I took a friend to one last year and he had a blast. He had no idea his car could do the things that it did. Students are divided up into small groups that work with one instructor. The instructor will take their group through the course, walking it step by step and explaining the techniques used for each type of corner. Then you will drive the course with the instructor riding along with you. He/she will start you off easy and help you gain speed through multiple runs of the course. And the timing equipment will be running so you can keep track of your progress. Seats are limited, so register early. But this is a great way to get a secure footing in AutoX if you've never done this before.
  2. I wish. But by the time I'm done, I'd have to leave for work. This will probably be my choice. My kingdom for a Dunkin' Donuts.
  3. Damn.. Have a RallyX event the following weekend. I can't ask for two Saturdays off in a row. Some day I'll get the STI on a road course...
  4. Is there any place near Cup O' Joe that has good breakfast stuff? I don't like any of the crap that place has.
  5. From what I understand, Cafe racers were essentially street racers. They got their name from hanging out in Cafe's while waiting for a race to come around. They weren't really bike gangs in the Harley Davidson chopper sense, but more like what you see on Sawmill with cars. Loose associations of friends that would hang out together and race each other and people from other groups on the street. Stripping the bike was a cheap way to go faster and narrowing it was an initial stab at aerodynamics.
  6. http://www.wimp.com/dtvshredder/ I might not be too embarrassed to ride one of these in public..
  7. Yeah... The stock BRZ has a bit of a 4x4 issue. http://i1022.photobucket.com/albums/af343/GSIdude/BRZ/IMG_3793.jpg The front's probably lowered about 1" and the rear about 1/2" But that means an even lower CG after the springs.
  8. RaceComp Engineering to the rescue with lowering springs! http://i41.tinypic.com/e3na0.jpg Gonna have to get a set.
  9. Combat Engineers have interesting senses of humor. My father was one and he had a few good stories.
  10. I think, if you spend enough time on the road, all of your nutritional needs can be met at a gas-stop.
  11. :lolguy: I think I'm going to sell it now that ambulances have gone mainsteam.
  12. Factory Five Racing "project 818". It's their new car that they are currently developing. The name comes from the target weight of 818kg or 1800lbs. The donor car will be a Subaru WRX. Essentially the center diff is removed from the transmission and replaced with a spool to make it FWD. And then the engine and transaxle is put in the back of the 818, making it mid-engined. The result should be a really nimble car (95" wheelbase) with the potential for good power. A 400 crank hp Subaru engine is very easy and reliable to make, and with only 1800lbs+driver to move, it should be very fast. FFR plans to have the first kits made, beta-built, and the first customer units under construction by SEMA this year.
  13. I am very sure I do not own an engine powerful enough to even spin that.
  14. Yeah, there's some speculation that the throttle plate is closing near redline. We'll see. OTher than that, the torque curve is pretty flat with a dip in the middle where the cams change timing. :lolguy:
  15. Bah.. Wasn't thinking about that. Just a sec. Fixed
  16. Lots of new reviews today. I think the "leak" of the FR-S pricing made Subaru bump their media timetable a bit. I'm liking the 0.92g skidpad on low rolling-resistance tires.
  17. Plenty of ways. Especially considering that I put my cars into a slide while off-throttle and don't use the e-brake.
  18. I plan to be there and not oversleep this time. I'll bring da amberlamps!
  19. It comes down to options, but really the difference between the GT-86 and FR-S is some badges and mandated safety equipment. It's tuned differently, suspension-wise. The Subaru gets a bit more understeer at corner entry whereas the FR-S is supposed to be a bit more neutral. The end result is looking like, with good tires, the Subaru will be more stable and grippy in the turns, and the FR-S will be more drift oriented. But the difference is in the springs and struts. So any aftermarket springs/dampers will eliminate the differences in handling between the cars. So the issue is pretty moot.
  20. CG not CD I think it's CD is a little below average, but the small size makes for a lower frontal area. Ultimately, you're right, CD comparisons on street cars is pretty pointless.
  21. I think the reason why it evokes such a negative reaction is because it takes the comfortable and easily quantifiable philosophy of "Bigger with More Power is better" and tosses it out the window. "Power" and "Fun" are not synonymous with this car and that confuses people.
