So, my talon is running like a beast, and i am slowly getting my maintance stuff done. I am not starting to look at upgrades. first, i need to replace the transmission (getting one Friday) and at the same time I am going to put a stage 3 clutch in it. I also plan on getting a boost guage very soon. Another maintenance/upgrade thing I am going to do is aluminum IC piping. After that, I am ready to start adding some power mods. The main one I have in question is the exhaust. Should I do... Option one, just but a 3" turbo back exhaust on it, no cat, just muffler? Pro's, it would get the job done, allow me to boost quicker and based on other testing give me around 20 WHP. Con's, Be really loud, No cat is illegal, but i don't have emission’s testing here... Also, installed it will probably be 300+ depending how cheap i can get it. Option two, Do a 3" down pipe that will bolt up to the stock cat, and before the cat, put an electric cutout on it. Pro's give me the same if not more HP and turbo spool advantages. I will still be able to maintain stock sound and loudness level. Be a cool sleeper advantage, it will be cheaper (300 tops is what I am looking at right now) and, if a cop catches me being too loud, i can close it, play dumb and hope he doesn’t give me shit (i doubt this will be a issue) Cons, Still illegal... that is all i can think of really give me an opinion of what you think! Con, still illegal, but i really don't care

Yeah, I am replacing it, then I am going to tear into this tranny and slowly rebuild it. My motor sergeant used to be a tech at a misu dealership so if I get into trouble he said I can bring it up to the motor pool and he would help me out.

I am interested in the clutch, not sure what they are worth I also am looking for upper and lower IC pipes, I have a 91 TSI AWD with ABS so not sure if your's would work or not. Does it have a decent set of rim/tires on it?

well, today after some research I have determined that the center diff is either locked up, or welded. Basicaly I know what the problem may or maynot be, and pretty sure I can take it apart to inspect it. Basicly asking for advice Should I tear into the transmission and see for myself (ofcourse i am going to check fluid and stuff again first...) Buy the extra tranny, dsmer's always need a spare, and then drop the tranny and see? How many people have heard of the diff being locked up? The car has had this issue since i bought it (tires skipping on slow sharp turns and when backing up and turning) I know I don't have a LSD and the diff and transfecase appear to be good too.

It is probably the belt, you have to get those sucker's pretty tight. My gearwrenches have paid for themself 3 times over just for that job.

If the tensioner is bad DON'T Drive it. If you don't have the 100 bucks for a new one right away, I will soon have a used one you can have for the time being. (getting ready to do a waterpump and timing change) Though, when I had my car and the tensioner went, it made a really bad rattling like noise at idle and it stopped when I reved up the engine. p.s. talking about timing tensioner right? Also, for modding Here is a great upgrade patch http://www.dsmtuners.com/sub.php?page=1gtupgrades I plan on starting first, with getting the car running and all basic maintance done, that should be a good first mod. Then I plan on boost guage (not really a mod but a good idea) Aircan hack mods, exhaust and boost controler.
